Cemetery of Ash is a Location in Dark Souls 3. This location serves as a starting area for new players to the game. This is where players will find themselves at the start of the game, revived as an 'Unkindled', and will have to face the mighty Iudex Gundyr as a test to prove their worth before heading into Firelink Shrine and being able to explore the lands of Lothric.

Getting Your Feet Under You

After character creation, the game begins with an introductory cutscene of your player character rising from a tombstone. Proceed forward and read the messages on the ground which provide instructions on the game's Controls.

Follow the path to find your first enemy. After disposing of him, go right and loot a Soul of a Deserted Corpse. Backtrack to where you found the first enemy and proceed to encounter another enemy in front of a soul-vessel-like fountain. Loot the corpse by the fountain to obtain the Ashen Estus Flask.

Progressing Through The Cemetery

To the right and up, there is a hollow facing away from you. To the left and up the stairs you will find another hollow. If you continue straight past the fountain, you will encounter a hollow with a crossbow. Taking a hard right from where this hollow is, you will see 2 more hollows. As you progress past them down a narrow waist-high waterway, it will open to a wider area where a Ravenous Crystal Lizard waits. Soul of an Unknown Traveler 1x can be located in this area (Speckled Stoneplate Ring +1 can also be found here in NG+). Defeat the Crystal Lizard to obtain a Titanite Scale 1x. He can be led to the edge by the bonfire to quickly defeat him by making him step/roll off.

Make your way back and continue on to reach a cliffside overlooking a breathtaking view. Head left and you will encounter your first Bonfire. Light the bonfire to trigger the Enkindle Trophy/Achievement and learn the Gesture Rest. Continue ahead along the cliff wall, eliminating the hollows in your path. At the edge, a message will tell you how to jump. Jumping here into a small ravine, you can find a Titanite Shard 1x. If you drop down beyond there will be a hollow you can land a jump attack on. It has a chance to drop a Cleric's Sacred Chime. If you backtrack and follow along the cliff edge, you will encounter several hollows and a path leading down along the cliff. At the end of the path you will find a sword and shield hollow and a crossbow hollow. Behind them, against the wall will be a corpse with Firebomb 5x.

In an archway ahead, eliminate the crossbow hollow and enter an open courtyard where you will see a petrified warrior. Approach it.

Boss Fight: Iudex Gundyr

Make your way forward and head down the stone steps that open up to a courtyard where you see the statue of a figure with a sword embedded in its chest. Approach the statue and you are given a prompt to remove the sword. Remove it to animate the statue and test your worth against the boss, Iudex Gundyr

Iudex Gundyr

Defeat him to receive the Coiled Sword and earn the Trophy/Achievement Iudex Gundyr. Your ember will now be restored, which is similar to the revival mechanic in Demon's Souls.

Open the large double doors and proceed to the next location, Firelink Shrine.

Hi, I was also the post below. Let me clarify, the guide mentions the NPC's dialogue, but I can't find him on the NPC list and he seems important.

I would highly recommend someone try all different kinds of gestures on the dead mushrooms? This guide doesn't mention an NPC that is right behind you as soon as you enter the world. In the cave, before the bonfire, there is a guy resting on the mushrooms, and he seems to serve no purpose other than telling you to go find a bed of your own. Most likely a secret?

I'm playing on PC, and I haven't had an NPC invasions since the very first one. I've been embered most the game, didn't ALWAYS kill the boss first, just once, yet nothing. Anyone had this problem, bug, because I don't get...

Recommended Levels: I think the recommended levels are kind of weird. For example for Road of Sacrifices it's 30-45, but for Farron Keep and Cathedral of the Deep, which are both just accessible after doing (part of) Road of Sacrifices it's just 30-45. Same with Lothric Castle and Grand Archives. Anyway, Farron Keep and Cathedral of the Deep are much harder than Road of Sacrifices and Grand Archives is much harder than Lothric Castle. So, also from this point of view, it's strange.

              • !!!!!WARNING!!!!!
DO NOT GIVE DEEP BRAILLE DIVINE TOME OR ANY OTHER DARK TOMES TO IRINA OF CARIM, unless you're sure which path of her questline you want to take in your playthrough.
Seriously, they need to warn people about this in here. Now I f***ed up her questline...

There is a broken bridge leading from Undead settlement to the Lothric's foot, and there is a dead dragon lying on the other side of this bridge, also there is a couple of items glimmering where this dragon is lying (items can be seen from where pillgrims are or from the Bonfire even withouth binoculars). I dont recall getting there on my first playthrough. Any tips? Or i just forgotten something.

after you light the bonfire and proceed to where the two tatanite bugs are over past themlike over where the wall ends it says you need wings to proceed how do you get wings?

                    • Anonymous

The Archdragon Peak walkthrough is so bad. "Defeat the Wyvern" AS IF it's that easy to kill a hulking dragon with so many serpent men lying around.

If you want to cheese a bit and prefer safety over gittin' gud: You can kill the two Lycanthropes along the side path at the right edge of the map, make your way to the Black Knight in his wing in the castle.Kite him (very carefully, as his reach is huge and he's aggressive) back along that right path. Then at the end of it, running leap over the rocks to fall into a shallow bit of the swamp (near the crouching Hollow and the Starved Dog.Kill the dog, and the couple of branch Hollows nearby (remember to kite one out one at a time for an easy killing). Alternatively, just run past. After that, run back up the path towards the Halfway bonfire (remember there's going to be two branch Hollows along the way, albeit facing in the opposite direction). Then get to the top of the path they were on, slide down two plateaus along the cliff edge, and you should actually see the Black Knight waiting near the cliff that you originally leapt over. Then proceed to fire arrows into his face from safety and the high ground. It takes far longer to describe than to actually do (the entire process being about two minutes after killing the Lycanthropes), and is a fun way to teach that d-bag a lesson about why he shouldn't be a meanie without risking yourself much at all.

WTF! Why does it tell you to go up in the rafters when it is the complete opposite of the title. Utter Crap.

YellowFinger is the only invading npc I always get here and I do not see him on the list of invaders. I also Have never found Londor Pale Sade but have summoned Sirri at the boss doors

                            • Anonymous

There is a summon NPC in the courtyard with all of the lothric knights. When you first come into the area after killing the huge halberd knight look directly left and you should see a summon sign for Lion Knight Albert

the shard you said when you hop down the short stairs here you can find one...i dont see it (in archdragon peak)

                                • in the beginning of the undead settlement standing on the balcony next to the corpse that holds lorettas bone if you aim a bow at the top left of the fire there is a body hanging that holds 9x kukri

There is another homeward bones that can be pick when going right just before the entrace of firelink shrine.

I died as the dragon died and, therefore, didn't get the cutscene. I got the trophy, however. Any idea what I should do?Thanks

                                      • Anonymous

Did anyone notice a guy at fire link shrine in the graveyard (same area as the dog where there is a sword on a gravestone).

                                        • Anonymous

You don't need to reload your whole game to get the Sword Master's loot drop if you choose to kick him off the cliff. Just rest at the Firelink Shrine bonfire and exit to find his drop at the top of the stairs where he first spawns.

Instead of saying bonfire eveytime how about someone change it to the title of the actual bonfire to make it actually useful?

                                            • Anonymous

i thought i would update you there is a second small crystal lizard behide firelink shrine when on top to visit the nest keep heading behide and u will see it it is possible to get to it if u go like u got to go inside but carry on around to where the master is don`t drop down you will see where if u keep going around you and ur see him.

What I did is, when I obtained the key ring I used homeward bone to the bonfire at the Profaned Capital. After that just head back to the place where the 6-7 jailers were and free Karla! :) But then you do miss some of the stuff ofcourse.

                                                • Anonymous

Thank you so much! I was stuck in the game and now I can finally move on!!! :) Thank you so much! Those of you who do these walkthroughs... Keep up the good work!!! You're the guiding lights in our dark journey through Dark Souls series. :)

I think it should be mentiones here, that you can open the door that is locked on the right after the stairs with the jailer key ring and get a prisioner´s chief ashes.

                                                    • "From the first Bonfire, to the left you can follow the path down to take on a dagger wielding enemy and behind it, Paladin's Ashes. Head up the staircase to take on an axe wielding NPC who also tosses throwing knives at you.?"If you have problems with these 2; they wont cross the boundary to Road of Sacrifices.

                                                      • Anonymous

Please don't suggest going to Irythill Dungeon bonefire unless warning that it could break Siegward quest : https://darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Siegward+of+CatarinaI'm angry at this walkthrough now !

                                                        • "When you're ready to proceed, return to the lift where you met Siegward. Take the lower lift to a Knight of The Boreal Valley, kill him for an Irithyll Straight Sword, and open the door to a bonfire and the Road of Sacrifices." You can snipe him. He did not go past the 1st archway you pass just after the elevator.

In the room with the 3 jailers next to the "gollum" creature and the simple gem, while i guess it's technically correct to say you CAN find the jailer's gloves, whoever wrote that seems to have gotten them as a random drop form one of the jailers, not because they are always lying in that room.

                                                                  • Don't forget to pick up the Northern set by the house where you fight the fire demon. It is located on one of the hanging corpses which you can reach and throw down via the small hut. Location is displayed on the map as number 7
