White Hair Talisman is a Talisman in Dark Souls 3.

Talisman made from a lock of white hair.

This lock of hair belonged to a deformed member of the chaos witches, mothers of the art of pyromancy. Fashioned into a talisman, it enables the wielder to cast both miracles and pyromancies.

Skill: Combustion
Creates a powerful flame in the wielder's hand. One of the most basic pyromancies, and for this reason, the flame created is fierce. Works while equipped in either hand.

Acquired From

  • Found in the Smouldering Lake.
    • From the Old King's Antechamber bonfire, go through the illusionary wall on the far side of the room that drops down into the hall of fire orbs and pyromancer demons. Follow the far wall left to the end of the room; you should see a corridor with a rat in it.
    • You may follow the rat and drop into a lava pit to pick up the item, as well as the Toxic Mist pyromancy. Alternatively, take the first door on your right into a root-infested catacomb with several rats. One of the far walls is illusionary; grab the Quelana Pyromancy Tome if you haven't already and the stairs down into the lava pit. Mind the lava slimes.

Notes and Tips

  • Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite.
  • Can cast Pyromancies and Miracles
  • Even though this talisman scales with both Intelligence and Faith, it does very little damage when casting dark spells. It is better suited to casting normal pyromancies and miracles.
  • Either due to a bug or by design, this talisman's Intelligence scaling will not apply to any pyromancies cast with it unless your Intelligence stat is equal to or higher than your Faith stat.
  • The talisman at +5 has a break point in damage inflicted by fireball, fire orb, Great chaos fire orb and black fire orb at 25 intelligence: the aforementioned spells get a sudden 30-40% boost, the same way the pyromancy flame gets a 90% boost on the same spells at 18 intelligence (video demonstration). Note that all other pyromancies are unaffected by this breakpoint, including Chaos Bed Vestiges despite its relative similarity with the orb-like spells affected by the breakpoint.
  • The weapon art Combustion is noticeably weaker than the pyromancy flame at same stats: damage dealt is around half.
  • Miracles cast with this talisman will only scale with Faith, and gain nothing from Intelligence. Dark miracles will scale with both, but they will be abnormally weak.
  • Ultimately less potent than a properly upgraded pyromancy flame in terms of damaging spells, making this talisman better suited to casting buffs such as Power Within or Carthus Beacon, alongside more standard miracles.
  • At 60 INT and 60 FTH it has a spellbuff of 200.

Lore

  • The description of the item, belonging to a "deformed member of the Chaos Witches", highly suggest that these white hairs could belong to the Fair Lady from Dark Souls I. The fact that this talisman can be used for miracles (basically healing magic) might be a reference to her attempting to heal Eingyi.
  • When viewed up close during casting animations where your character's hand is open, you can see the Old Witch's Ring from Dark Souls 1 on it. Image link: https://i.imgur.com/PCU9NkR.jpg

If a player wanted to exclusively use pyromancy buffs together with healing or buffing miracles, this would be a useful talisman.

      • Anonymous

is scaling with Faith and Int. Great! I can cast miracles on my pyromancy build! Nope. miracles cast scale only with the faith.
oh, well at least i can use it for dark miracles on my pyromacer! Nope. dark spells do very little damage with this catalyst.
ah, ok, so a herald could cast some base level pyromancies with this talisman but sacrifice a lot of damage. NOPE! pyromancies only scale with both stats if int is more than faith!!
alright i see, so what you are saying is that this talisman is useless
        precisely.

        • Anonymous

damn the notes and tips make this thing sound outright horrible. only useful to get pyro and miracle buffs on the same catalyst i guess

          • Anonymous

So we have a Miracle/Sorcery Catalyst and a Miracle/Pyro Catalyst but NO Sorcery/Pyro Catalyst? 0/10 worst Souls Game.

            • Anonymous

Im using this on a dark build with sunless talisman. I go for lifehunt scythe 1 or 2 times (its does huge dmg with boost from rings - around 600, once hit a guy for 862). Then when I switch to white hair talisman people never notice this and are cought off guard with black serpeant or black flame. Not much damage but unexpected.

i know fromsoft already gave Pyros CBV in 3 but seriously? why are so many strings attached to this talisman? just give it unfaltering prayer equal to saint's AT LEAST. youre not even saving carry weight since pyroflame is weightless so just have pyro and canvas? like fromsoft stop being a coward when giving casters stuff to have fun with. its bad enough yall murked hexes for 5 Dark sorceries 3 of which are broadly useless.

Aww man, was doing a miracle knight. But if I knew about this item I would drop some FTH to pump some INT and get power within or maby even make some Carthus Beacon/Pontiff's Right Eye shenanigans. Carthus Flame Arc I feel "meh" as the only boss after Yhorm/Aldrich that is weak to fire is Nameless King (which is weird as his armour is supposed to resist fire). Most bosses at that point are weak to lightning, including SoC, Friede and Midir.

                  • Anonymous

This item can apply any damage type buff to your weapon. It can cast lightning blade, dark blade, dark moon blade, and carthus flame arc, making it fairly versatile.

                    • Anonymous

-Two-hand Raw Caestus and cast Sacred Oath, Blessed Weapon and Carthus Beacon with this thing.
-Flynn's Ring + Pontiff's Right Eye + Lingering Dragoncrest Ring + Darkmoon Ring
                      -Dragon Torso Stone
                      -Pump the rest to VIG
                      -Profit?

Intresting discovery on the scaling of this. Tested flame whip multiple times on a hollow near high wall of lothric bonefire

At 40/40 +0 (142 spell buff) flame whip did 58 dmg per tick

Now at 40/40 +3 (152 spell buff.) Should be a 7% increase in damage when looking at the spell buff. But fire whip instead dealt 70 dmg per tick (~20% dmg increase)

And then at 40/40 +5 (159 spell buff) a mere 4,6% increase in spell buff. The dmg of fire whip should only increase to 73 dmg per tick.
BUT in went up to 76 dmg per tick (8,5% dmg increase)

So the scaling on this seems a bit odd.

The regular pyromancy flame deals ~95 dmg per tick at 40/40 +10 (207 spell buff)
Vs the +5 white hair talisman att the same stats dealing its 76, the difference in spell buff is 30%, but the damage only differs by 25%

                        • Anonymous

I need this to buff with both, flame arc and sunlight/Darkmoon because I only use buffs/weapon arts. It's not the best but at least I can deal with the Pus of man easier. To bad there isn't a Pyromancy/Sorcery Catalyst.

                          • Anonymous

I actually want Gentle prayer rather than Unfaltering. I feel that would have made it a focused healing/buff catalyst rather than a crappy one.

                            • Anonymous

this talisman is weird. while the spellbuff is really low, it outperforms the other pyromancy flames at the same spellbuff (tested at 171 vs 171 spellbuff). It even outperforms if the other flames have a slightly higher spellbuff (171 vs 180, and 123 vs 159). The damage difference is greater the lower both spellbuffs are, which leads me to believe there is a hidden flat buff in the talisman for pyromancies. tested against the drakeblood knight with every type of pyro catalyst across multiple characters. needs further testing, but this talisman might be a total beast for lower level characters with modest pyro stats.

For anyone who like to cosplay, this talisman is damn fun. My personal creations: -gwyn cosplay: profaned greatsword, WH talisman( sacred flame, sunlight spear)+ full Nameless King armor. - Gael cosplay: gael greatsword, WHT(power within, WoW corona)+ slave knight set + repeating crossbow = phased 2 gael. - Orphan of Kos: harald curved greatsword, WHT(bursted fireball, lightning storm) = phased 2 Kos.

They knew what they were doing by not putting unfaltering prayer as the weapon art. If players could poise cast Chaos storm and Sacred flame, it would break the game.

                                  • Anonymous

Like *** that weapon art!!! Give me unfaltering prayer on this. No more interruption when casting pyro. Would be so much fun pve and pvp castin chaos storm !!

                                    • Anonymous

Main use is to provide miracle builds with viable dmg spells early since your not supposed to trade until late when you get sunlight spear and better defenses. Meaning faith builds can cast good dmg fire orbs instead of weak lightning spears.

                                      • Anonymous

a real shame it has an absolutly useless weapon art. if it had unfaltering prayer it could have been used to poise cast sacred flame or something cool like that...

                                        • Ignore the spellbuff, i tryed this with 45/45 int/fth (173 sb) and with 30/60 int/fth (175 sb) and black flame's damage was 12-13% more in the second case. I get 400 ar in pvp from black flame and 350 from black serpent with both pyro rings only. Its not huge and you still can get more using usual pyro flame, but it's finally viable. Praise the style! [T]/

It’s strange for a catalyst to have physical and Fire Damage on the weapon itself. It’s almost as though you should two hand the catalyst to point blank hit targets with it.

                                            • I love the idea. But it's sooo weak. It needs a Buff. Really. Only a bit pls. They always nerfe weapons cause the community cries, but never make some weak - but very useful things stronger. Would be great if it were at least a bit stronger - of course not the same like pyromancy flame or a good talisman/chime. But a bit stronger. So like I read the pyromancy flame does 90% - and the white hair about 30% should be about 50 or 60% World be definetly okay! And I think no one would crie, it is OP Weh Weh.. (and the other mixed spell things, are way stronger than this. Why?!

                                              • Anonymous

Idc what you people think, i use what i want and using this was fun and easily viable. It's the only catalyst that lets me cast both pyromancy and miracles on one catalyst and playing with that playstyle was really cool, i did a paladin roleplay with this. Switching between melee, GCFO, bountiful light and lightning arrow was pretty nice.

                                                • Anonymous

I use it as an off hand talisman for both healing and buffing (particularly Carthus Flame Arc) since I like having my Flame on the right hand for offensive use. While it has a lower spell buff value I still think the convenience is worth it and the damage difference is not that big, plus it's a nice twinkling titanite dump.

                                                  • Anonymous

Worst spell buff in the game, just use talisman and flame. I would never give up unfaltering prayer just to have a single inferior catalyst anyway. All those "mindgames" are nonsense, you would have just used hidden weapon if you were serious about it and mixed in sorceries and plain weapons too.

                                                    • Despite being able to use it without meeting Int/Fth requirements; It'll effect spells that use Build up. Tested on first Mimic in Lothric, took over 6 Casts to inflict Toxic. Only 1 Cast with Parting Flame.

                                                      • Anonymous

The fact that From would only touch this thing to nerf its use in the Sacred Flame glitch and not to buff it for feasible use is downright insulting

                                                        • Anonymous

nice for warmth and vow pacifism/boss trolling Are you sure about "this talisman's Intelligence scaling will not apply to any pyromancies cast with it unless your Intelligence stat is equal to or higher than your Faith stat" though? Does it mean that ALL of my intelligence scaling will get ignored for putting faith 1 SL above it? i.e. that I can lower my damage by adding faith? I thought it was just that faith above the current intelligence level gets ignored.

                                                          • Anonymous

So, here's a random and potentially very stupid question - would this talisman work for an "all the buffs" build? Looking at running a lower quality build (maybe 30 Str / 30 Dex) with 30 Faith and this talisman, with the theory behind the build being having access to every elemental damage type in the game via spells (dark blade, lightning blade, darkmoon blade and carthus flame arc) while wielding a refined murakumo. How much does scaling affect damage on weapon buffs? Not looking to run this build for PvP, just solo.

                                                            • Anonymous

You know how this thing would be more interesting yet balanced? If it allowed to cycle through pyromancies-miracles granting them small bonus, like 15-20% in damage or healing Also, great piece for roleplaying a female pyromancer character, left hand you have white hair talisman, right hand izalith staff, 40/40 int/fai

                                                              • Anonymous

almost got roasted to death for a pile of hair, GG

not sure how on earth it didnt burn in a room full of lava though

                                                                • Anonymous

I've actually found this to be incredibly powerful for PvP....here's why

As a pyromancer, its relatively easy to 1-2 shot people if I can hit them with Sacred Flame of Great Chaos Fire Orb.

PvP is all about mindgames and is very similar to playing Poker.

Normally, the flame in hand telegraphs what capabilities my character has. I've found it's very effective to lure the enemy into a false sense of security by engaging in melee with the Saint's Bident and Pontif knight shield, both of which are very large and imposing looking weapons.

If they move out of melee range, I take shots with a light crossbow with lightning bolts (only weighs 3). The usage of the crossbow helps sell the deception by making them think I dont have any good ranged capabilities.

Generally, after I get a hit or two in with the Bident, there is always a point at which I notice the enemy beginning to commit more (becoming cocky?). This is the point where the enemy "thinks" they have figured out what capabilities I have.

-If they have invaded my world or dueling, this is when I pop Iron Flesh and turn into Jason Voorhees. The WA of saint's bident helps to give mobility. And as soon as I'm in range, either hit them with a Sacred Flame+Chaos Fire Orb or 2 Chaos Fire Orbs.

-If I have been called in as a blue phantom, this is the point that the enemy dismisses my presence and starts to pursue the host of embers (oftentimes turning their back to me). It only takes 1 well placed Chaos Fire Orb to stagger the enemy and/or 1 shot them.

This Talisman gives something that cant be quantified via raw numbers and calculations...deception and the element of surprise. It's basically like casting invisible weapon on your flame as a pyromancer.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Damm, I thought for a moment that I found something special. Weird that you have to burn your scrotum off for this lousy catalyst.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Just did some damage testing to find out how bad it is. 16 Int 20 Fth, this talisman at +3 vs. a +6 Pyromancy Flame on Lothric Knights in the high wall. Used Black Serpant, Fire Orb, and Carthus Flame Arc. This Talisman clocked 105 damage with Black Serpant, 117 with Fire Orb and a damage buff of 83 points with Flame Arc. The Pyromancy Flame hit 156 with Black Serpant, 127 with Fire Orb, and 111 damage buff with Flame Arc. That's roughly a 33% damage penalty on everything except Fire Orb. which was about 8%. I didn't try with Miracles, but I imagine I'll see similar ratios. I feel like this thing could use a buff. The other hybrid catalyst, the crystal chime actually delivers good damage and merit as opposed to this thing.

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

Unless you only have one available inventory slot, using a separate pyro flame and a miracle catalyst will always be better than using this. Amusingly, all they would need to do to change that would be to give it Unfaltering Prayer, but I guess they (understandably) don't want to allow for poise-imbued pyromancy (especially Sacred Flame).

                                                                            • Anonymous

If this thing had unfaltering prayer, the terrible scaling would be balanced out, but as it stands right now, it's terrible. Apart from GLORIOUS FASHION there's no reason to use it over just a flame and a chime.

                                                                              • Anonymous

Limit Breakers made a video about the peculiarity of DkS3's lava and that it causes PHYSICAL AND FIRE damage! IIRC, the physical defense made more of a difference than the fire defense.

Yes, it is weird and stupid.

(oh yeah that was dramatic maybe they will do what I want)

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Is there some merit/advantage this has over the pyro flame?
                                                                                    Thanks guys.

I believe would like to use heal aid and poison mist on my bleed build with this because it would be more hidden No pyromancy flame to give it away or chime noise. And obviously more viable in combat let's face it least used weapon for sure.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                        • Anonymous

well, maybe if the scaling wasn't absolute dogsh!t

Planning on using a heavy weapon w/ Deep Protection and Carthus Flame Arc. You could do a dual-wield weapon with Carthus Beacon and some miracle weapon buff. Something tells me this Talisman is underrated for all the combinations you could do.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                • Excellent Talisman for PVE, as it allows you to cast spells like Warmth, Bountiful Sunlight, or Sunlight Oath without dedicating multiple weapon slots for the supporting actions you want to take.

Just as useful for the same regard in PVP, but how useful doing any of that in PVP is up for debate :P

Theoretically, this talisman allows you to cast Warmth and then Silence, ensuring that your Gank Squad has the upper hand in the immediate area, but if you're ganking you shouldn't need the help.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

Hidden body and silence ring will help avoid the lava slimes. Allot all estus to healing.

                                                                                                      • This Talisman isn't useless, you want to use it as a Buff type catalyst. Putting on Carthus Beacon/Power Within and Blessed/Lightning Weapon works wonders, and it saves you an equipment slot.

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

It is also possible to block the damage of the lava by blocking with a shield as long as you´re facing the direction you´re walking

Using Iron Flesh to help poise through the enemy's attempt to break the spell is useful, but since it is an old trick it should not be possible to pull off anymore.

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Use estus as needed and you should survive.

It is noticeable when casting, for example, Great Chaos Fireball immediately followed by Profaned Flame, indicated by a brief visual effect around the casting hand resembling that seen when the second spell is cast. This talisman can combo from some Pyromancies into Miracles - I've found that the Fireball 'family' of Pyromancies can combo into both Gnaws, for example. In fact, that's the only 'combo' I've found as yet, but the point stands that it can do it in the first place....now if only I knew what it actually did.

I've been looking over all the weapons that were related as possibly multiple catalyst : able to cast more than one type of spells between miracles, pyromancy, and sorcerie... There is none. There's quite possibly between six or even seven weapons able to use multiple schools of spells between these three, and it's clearly proven to be used this way, whether by the lore or by the monsters... but when the player find them : none of these weapons can ! For me, this talsiman will be my new blessed trinket, because it's the only one to have some originality. The only thing, even as cool as it is for a "Saitama build", I hope that the bug will be patched...

You dont even need to meet the requirements. Have fun oneshotting ^^

Two-hand the White Hair Talisman (hold the two-handing button). Cast Sacred Flame on your poor guinea pig. You'll notice that Sacred Flame's upticks will act like R1 hits from your right-hand weapon, even taking the element of it. This is almost a guaranteed instant kill on most enemies and pretty much is instant kill for any and all players, even if they have Tears of Denial active.I'm uncertain if any other Pyromancy (or even Miracles) are affected by this bug. So if you see a guy two-handing a White Hair Talisman, fight at range and don't get caught.
