- Unlike Dark Souls 2, wielding this weapon in your left hand does not grant a unique moveset.
- The spin move of the weapon art can be parried.
- Interestingly, the inventory icon resembles the Greatsword of Artorias from the original game, but its in-game model more closely resembles its damaged counterpart, the Abyss Greatsword.
- The Wolf Knight's Greatsword has a range of 35.4179xl on the 1h R1 and 37.8598xl on the 2h R1.
Softcaps & Scaling:

I have just gotten this weapon and immediatley went to upgrade it with titanite scales. I know that I have gotten like 4 or 5 but I can't find them anywhere in my inventory. Anyone knows if this is a glitchor something?

Behold, the only version of Artorias's Greatsword (Abyss Greatsword) that doesn't have absolutely moronic and overly stat-hungry requirments! Praise be!

Use this if you want efficiency. Use the Farron Greatsword if you want incredible amounts of fun.
Easily the best greatsword IMO.... I favor this weapon over all other greatswords in both Dark Souls and Dark Souls III. One-handed heavy attack will dodge a lot of attacks if timed correctly. Two-handed heavy attack will send most enemies backwards. Landing the weapon art and crushing a defeated foe into the ground like a pancake is soooo satisfying... It just does all the things a greatsword should do and does them all very well.

I want bonfire ascetics so I can get this and Farron Greatsword in one cycle
Just thankful this has no crazy faith and int requirement like in past games

All tryhards go for either clymore or Gael's, but I believe this sword is just as good. Its longer, WA flip is actually a very good attack if you know how to use it effectively and I love 1H R2, which has huge range and almost no recovery.

Can the weapon art heavy attack be parried/ have hyperarmor?

The charged r2 when 2 handed deals heavy knockback. But takes too long to be of any use.

a blade we all know and we all know the man who owned it and with this sword I will honour his legend to Artorias !

Everyone talking about the flip flop bop attack while I use this weapon because I love the low spinning attack.

Gael being abyssal seems to be a common misconception across the internet. I recently did a playthrough testing the damage of this sword, BKS, and Hollowslayer. All 3 swords dealt similar damage to gael until his second phase where Hollowslayer dealt 20% increased damage. This means Gael is never abyssal, but becomes hollow.
- Anonymous
Since it says it deals 20% dmg to Pus of Man, does that mean it would deal 20% dmg to Iudex Gundyr in 2nd phase?
Abyssal enemies takes 20% more damages, so hitting them with this weapon at 500 AR is the same (basicly) as hitting them with another weapon with 600 AR?

Such a good weapon. A much better investment then the Farron Greatsword by far

why does the icon look like the clean version of the sword, that you get from Sif, but when you equip it, it looks like the sword you get from artorias?

Sucks that you need a titslab to get it to +5, it would have been a nice weapon to have maxed out early game, like the Black knight Sword from the first game

The way this community talks, you'd think pvp was a much larger part of the game than it actually is.

WA r1 is for mixups in melee, WA r2 is great to punish reckless casting and to sometimes rollcatch. Overall a great weapon for quality builds, love it.

Very enjoyable when paired with the Wolf Knight Great Shield. (Or any WS shield but extra fan girl points) The 1handed R2 poke has excellent range and straight into WS R2.
I pair Wolf ring and Farron ring for the ultimate cosplay. And I like the flippy flop

One of the few weapons in the game capable of "pancaking" enemies with its WA R2.

Pls add the fact that flip weapon art can for some reason out poise Ultra Great Swords.

this weapon is kinda boring ngl, was hoping that the wolf knight gs was much more fun, id just go with abyss watchers gs

This article is missing one thing:
70/70 = 566 AR
Because the Farron Greatsword has that much at 40/40

Might be worth mentioning that this weapon's 1H R2 attack takes an additional step forwards when it strikes, making it a surprisingly effective gap closer. (As if it wasn't already good enough at gap closing with its WA R2)
The tracking is also superb, very good for rollcatching.

This thing's 2H R2 attacks can absolutely decimate any enemy/NPC that can be knocked over with zero effort. As they recover from the knockdown, you're already charging up that next big boi strike which knows them down on their a$$ again. Most enemies' AI are too stupid to counter. Your stamina bar is the only limit!

Abyssal creatures all over the shop... you ll use this weapon, sooner or later.

Of all the weapons I use in DS3, this is the one that has never failed me. Sick flips.

Great for farron sword users who like to spin for 90% of your invasion, pancakes the casul right out of them. Ironic, since both weapons are from abyss watcher soul. Also great against the spear, greatshield ringed knights, found that out because they're usually surrounded by the abyss machete guys
- Anonymous
Surprisingly R2 of this weapon deal low amount of stamina damage (for greatsword) despite being able to pancake with fully charged R2
- Anonymous
Anyone who don't understand why it's OP: It's second weapon art can punish anyone who dared to used long-lasting WA like Friede's Great Scythe has, spear charges and many others, and weapon is really good overall. Before kissing the ground enemy will get artorias flashback and a lot of hp missing.
can people tell me how to make it more OP? Nearly understood nothing. uwu

This weapon is great in the ringed city dlc. Dont know if the enemies there are actually weak tobit but it looks like they are.

Theres a version of the sword straight up called "Artorias' Greatsword" in the code that has S scaling in DEX and STR by default. It can't be upgraded and has to be obtained through cheat engine
Underrated monster. I’ve ended so many bosses lives by quick-swapping to this and doing the Heavy WA after dodging. Current Somersault Slash Kills: Dancer, Oceiros, Champion Gundyr, Sister Friede, Demon Prince, Midir, SotC yrmomgey, Gael

Is there a way to get this thing without ng+ if you already got the farron-greadsword??
If someone is too offensive in PvP, just wait till they rush at you and use the light WA, which will damage them like 80% of the time

Question: Why is it that this weapon is very powerful against some bosses? Ex: The Dragonslayer Armor/Armour?

Official weapon of all early tryhards and gankers. As soon as I see someone with this, 9/10 their first move is going to be to spam the weapon art, which is great because I can easily get a parry off of them. They don't get back up after that dagger hits em. The ones that do will spam the WA again, granting another party and this time a kill. Extra hatemail if you use RHH WA and continuously stun poke them out of their attack lol.
Anyone NG+ willing to trade in this sword if you have extra? I didn't really want the sword early game, so I used the soul to get levels.

I am using this sword for my Pyroswordsman build any recommendations

Despite the scaling text. I can comfirm the weapon scale better with DEX than STR.

NEVER do this things flip attack, it's easily one of the worst moves (if not THE worst move) in the entire game. Stupid easy to backstab punish or even just dodge and punish with 2r1s. It is a pretty good guard breaker to be completely fair, but that doesn't mean much when its super easy to dodge anyway. Besides, thats what the straight sword wa is for. Other than that though, it's a pretty cool weapon ig, it's wa r1 is a great rollcatch, it has thrust attack r2s and regular greatsword r1s.
- Anonymous
I'm going to give my deep opinions on this weapon as this Greatsword in particular is so underrated. Coming across all kinds of videos on how 'bad' the WA is and how the charged R1 is bad and such. But I guess I can give some thoughts to defend what these people's opinions are, not necessarily shoot em' in the foot. But I don't think these people know particular how to use this weapon.
DAMAGE: The damage is plain and simple, really freaking good. As good as the Gael's sword for comparison, the only thing this sword doesn't have in caparison to Gael's Greatsword is the infamous 3-hit combo. But does that means this sword is inferior? yea, it is, but that doesn't mean it's all-of-sudden useless. The damage also deals 20% extra damage to abyssal like enemies which is a nice bonus for PvE. But overall, top tier damage but Gael surpasses its' damage.
RANGE: People never talk about the range for this sword. Like what the heck.. its' range is as long as Wolnir's sword, which by the way, is amazing for roll catching 2H. The range is great to outspace most Ultra Greatswords and get in punishes and since the range is really viable, if you find a straight sword/Katana user that does consistent running attacks, you can attack early and possibly catch them. Overall, range is pretty good and viable enough to be used in the Arena.
WEAPON ART: Oh dear, here's where everyone is blind on how much utilization this WA has. I guess I'll dive into the
Light attack(The double spiny move). This has to be the most useful WA in the game for one reason: roll catching. 9/10 times I've ran up to someone and immediately use this WA attack, (If you have somebody whose aggressive/likes backstabs) THEY will get 100% hit by the WA. Trust me, the WA is timed so perfectly to the point where you CANNOT roll twice to dodge the second go-around of your swing animation. Like seriously, the damage is mediocre, but the roll catch utility(I've tested) has hit 100% of the time, not exaggerated.
[So here's a TIP:] If you have somebody whose aggressive and likes backstabs. Run up to them and use the Light attack of the WA. The chance that they'll roll into you is about 50/50, so it isn't guaranteed damage but at least its' risk is low since they are forced to stay back or they'll get hit by the extra range of the second hit(which you do step forward a lil' bit).
Then the famous flip. The flip could have been one of the best and most fun WAs in the game if you could hold down the button and continuously do flips until you drain your energy but.. whatever, doing a dang flip is enough. The flip has decent enough hyper armor to poise through most attacks excluding 2h strong attacks from ultras but that's normal. The range is as much as the boss but the boss, Artorias, is of course modified since.... he's the boss. But the thing, THE THING, I think is TOTAL CRAP is the stun from the flip. WHAT... THE..... HECK. If there's a stun on an ability.... and it's suppose to kinda give it a crutch so it has an extra chance to HIT THEM.... then why does the flip's stun..... DOESN'T CONNECT EVEN IF YOU STUN THEM? I have no idea why it stuns in the first place. Unless I'm missing something like... they have get stunned through the entire animation or something but this is kinda useless. Quick bad note is the end lag after you slam down, this is also quite bad.
OVERALL: Very fun weapon that is definitely worth a go in PvP and PvE.
TL;DR: Great damage, great range. WA's spin move is underrated, king at roll catching. Flip has good range, useless stunning ability and bad endlag but rewarding damage.
- Anonymous
This weapon is absolutely great in pvp arena. If you combine it with well timed consumables (poison knifes, black firebombs, etc) and know how to use its WA, you can win a solid 2/3 times.
Is anyone willing to trade me this? I would really appreciate it.

Artorias was not left handed you can tell by his armor his left arm is more armored than his right, a knight's shield arm is always protected more also if he used his left arm all the plateing would get in the way that why his right arm has less armor its to allow mobility. and DS2 was not directed by miyazaki the guy who makes all the lore that's why in 3 he removed the move set/description that talked about all the past owners being left handed
- Anonymous
We can never again have a good and effective Artorias cosplay, because Artorias is left-handed, so he attacks with his sheild
- Anonymous
i love this weapon but i hate how every time i try to use the flip jump on an npc enemy, the jump stuns them but they always miraculously roll out of the actual slam. i can hit people in pvp with this just fine, but with the way the AI for npcs works in this game it makes it almost impossible to actually land the attack
- Anonymous
actually, the wolf ring names Artorias, so his name isn't fully forgotten.
- Anonymous
I love how literally no one has discovered how great this sword is yet, i don't see any mention of it anywhere. The reach is god tier, the damage is great (especially the 1h thrust) and the WA are great for on reaction trading. I would honestly consider this a highest tier greatsword.
- Anonymous
The fact that the unique move set of the sword wasn't granted to the player also reveals that everyone forgot how to use the sword, at least the way it was intended to be. Now add the fact that Artorias is never referred to as... well, Artorias.
... So yes, Artorias was really forgotten.
pancake everyone with WA R2, WA R1 is a good bait in pvp since it hits twice
