Xanthous Set is an Armor in Dark Souls 3.
Crown made in imitation of a divine creature of Oolacile, land of ancient, golden sorceries.
Xanthous clothing is the mark of a researcher of lost sorceries, and the oversized crown is emblematic of their work. Such a curious pursuit is surely nothing to be ashamed of. (Crown)
Yellowish overcoat covering a band of brass medallions.
Xanthous clothing is the mark of a researcher of lost sorceries, and the number of medallions denotes their success. A point of pride for the researchers, even if its signficance is lost on others. (Overcoat)
Yellowish gloves.
Xanthous clothing is the mark of a researcher of lost sorceries, and it is said that with golden sorceries, one could manipulate light. (Gloves)
Yellowish trousers.
Xanthous clothing is the mark of a researcher of lost sorceries, and it is said that with golden sorceries, one could manipulate light. (Trousers)
Location/Where to Find
- The crown is dropped by Yellowfinger Heysel after killing her invading phantom in either Road of Sacrifices or Farron Keep or can be gained by killing the Man-grub that spawns in Rosaria's Bedchamber after both Yhorm and Aldrich are defeated. Defeating The Abyss Watchers boss will cause Yellowfinger Heysel to no longer invade, so the first method must be done before beating the boss. The rest of the armor set can be bought from the Shrine Handmaid in Firelink Shrine for 24,000 souls after giving her Xanthous Ashes (found in Irithyll Dungeon in the room with lots of Jailers).
Notes and Tips
- The set is visually drastically different compared to its appearance in Dark Souls 1 and 2. The crown is now shaped like a mushroom and is slightly reminiscent of the Monk's Head Collar from Demon's Souls. The rest of the set also now leaves the wearer fully clothed. Much of the set is stained with blood.

If the trousers and gloves aren't of your liking I've found that the Leather Gauntlets and Nameless Knight Leggings fit the set very well.

I miss the bright yellow version from the previous games. Would be nice to have some colors even in the low-saturated ds3.

I like to pair Wolnir's Holy Sword and Golden Ritual Spear using this armor, it looks pretty good. A bonus point is how silly looking is to use Whs WA, looks like a mini tactical nuke coming from your very head, kinda fitting for the mushroom-like shape of the crown. You could say it is mind blowing (Please pardon my bad jokes)

The oven mitt is there so heysel can slap you with a really funny sound effect

Why do armor in dark souls 3 have no ideas or features unlike dark souls 2

this armor gives me stupidly low defense in pvp but I refuse to take it off

Actually looks dope now, a good outfit for a rogue minus the headdress

is it just me or do the armor pieces on the overcoat slightly resemble the armor of the allonne knights in ds2?
- Anonymous
Why they changed this? DS1 and 2 Xanthous set is much, much better.

I wonder if there's a mod to remove those horrible plates on the sides of the chest piece... ruins my fashion

Comparing this version of the set with it's previous incarnations,i can not help but be reminded of the CBT copypasta meme...

No giant bulbous dome, the yellow's no longer eye-stingingly bright, and no more glorious exposed midriff. 0/10 what have you scholar bois done to best set

Everyone wondering what the left glove is, it's obviously an oven mitt! Oolacile is well known for their bomb golden crust pizza

The skirt from the old set was better the leggings in this new set

Reminds me of bloodborne dlc the mushroom head you turn into.

Whats the stuff on left arm, I think it mold or something, but I don't know

No one over mention that it appears the set is splattered with wax, referencing the Grand Archives.

I just got the Xanthous Crown and the Heysel Pick from a slug guy that spawned next to the bonfire in Rosaria's room. Weird i guess...

Some people say the head piece resembles a Mushroom. For me it resembles a nuclear explosion.

What is the greenish fungal growth on the left glove?? Really ruins the set for me.

Pair with golden ritual spear and ancient dragon greatshield, oh my good lord, will you look beautiful

since this makes you a mushroom everyone should invade in the painted world with their name changed to rotter your name

The crown looks like Elizabeth the mushroom from DS1's dlc "Artorias of the Abyss". It also mentions it was made to imitate a divine creature of Oolacile and Elizabeth is pretty unique as a being.

I just can't take this armor set seriously, nor anyone who wears it.

The Xanthous Crown can also be found on a maggotman in rosaria's bedchamber

I miss the giant head piece from dark souls 1 ;-; the new one just looks like a mushroom

Leonhard mentions that "Yellowfinger" may see camaraderie in Rosaria's Fingers, most likely referring to the wearer of this set, as it drops from the worm in Rosaria's Bedchamber.
The counterparts from the other games were really all about how comical they are. This set actually looks baller as *****. Even the crown. But that chest piece, ***** that is beautiful.
- Anonymous
I didn't kill Heysel but it did drop off a grub near Rosaria late game
- Anonymous
This set by itself looks really good, even with the crown because it looks more natural and subdued than the old bright yellow, perfectly oval crown. Also dat overcoat.

Sure, not everyone like yellow overcoat but aesthetically wise, the fashion meter is off the chart imo. Grab any knight set that match the chestpiece and you'll look like a nomad knight from far away. Not to mention the Swordspear has similar colour scheme with it.
- Anonymous
I got this set after killing an invader wearing this it (didn't write down his name, too much action at the time) on Road of Sacrifices in my first playthrough. He invaded near the first Big Crab.
