Dark Sigil Locations
- One is given to you by Yoel of Londor each time you "tease out your inner strength" (up to 5.)
- Three are given to you if you decide to "marry" Anri of Astora
Dark Sigil Usage
- You need all of the Dark Sigils to unlock the Usurpation of Fire ending.
- Triggers levels of Hollowing upon death which can be tracked from the player status screen below player level. The amount of hollowing gained per death is equal to the number of Dark Sigils you have.
- The five first Dark Sigils each unlocks a free soul level. After Yoel gives you the first Dark Sigil, you may revisit him at 2, 6, 12, and 15 hollowing to gain these levels in exchange for another Dark Sigil.
- If you heal the Dark Sigil before getting five free Soul levels from Yoel of Londor, he will no longer offer to "tease out your inner strength".
How to heal the Dark Sigil
- The Dark Sigil may be healed by giving a Fire Keeper Soul to the Fire Keeper, which will allow her to heal your Dark Sigil.
- The cost of healing the Dark Sigil is equal to the number of sigils you currently hold as a level per sigil.(If you have 8 sigils it will cost 8 levels worth of souls)
- When the Dark Sigil is healed, all Dark Sigils are removed from your inventory, and your Character will no longer gain more Hollowing on death. As of a recent patch, this also cures your current level of Hollowing.
- It is also automatically healed by starting a new NG. However you will keep your hollowing levels.
- Removing the Dark Sigils will stop the Yuria of Londor quest.
How to reverse Hollowing
- You can reverse hollowing with Purging Stones sold by Yuria of Londor.
- Hollowing can also be reversed by spending souls equal to 100x your current level at the Altar of Velka, found in the sewers below the Undead Settlement. The sewers can be accessed by going down the stairs near the Cliff Underside bonfire and taking a right to follow the cliff face. If you have not yet explored the Settlement, the Undead Settlement guide has directions. You will require the grave key, purchasable from the for 1500 souls upon giving the Mortician's Ashes. The locked gate is about halfway through the sewer, between the parties of rats. Unlock the gate, and take the first right. The altar will be straight ahead. Alternatively, you can also travel to the bottom of the cliff on the exit of the sewers (when you enter from the Cliff Underside bonfire side) and enter through a passage down there, requiring you to fight through a few skeletons to get to the altar. To cure Hollowing, request dissolution.
- If you wish to access Velka without purchasing the key, you can drop down into the chasm just up from the bridge near cliff underside bonfire onto some steps that reduce the fall damage to survivable levels (best way to survive is to reduce equipment weight to 0% and be embered). Alternatively, the spell Spook or the Silvercat Ring will prevent all the fall damage.
Notes and Trivia
- If you don't receive the five Sigils before Yoel dies, you won't get Yuria of Londor to appear in your Firelink.

I wanna drop a rock in there, and see if it comes back or not

Do not remove dark sigil. It boosts poison and bleed, and has no drawbacks aside from character face deformation. You can cure the deformation through the statue under undead settlement called "Dissolution " or by buying purging stones from yuria. It Doesnt Ruin The Yuria Questline. The Multiplier for damage is approx 0.81x per level, meaning any weapons that have innate bleed damage benefit from you having an active sigil.
- Anonymous
Im not typing this **** again, I guess the mods didnt allow it, but, in short : Theres no reason to ever heal sigil. Only heal hollowing. Just go to the statue underneath undead settlement and offer souls to fix your face and/or, get all 5 levels with Yoel, and when Yuria shows up, get a purging stone FROM HER to fix your ugly ass face. Keep sigil on at all times because in PVP, You're facing hollows, and theres a permanent bonus to damage vs hollows at all times as long as you have a sigil active. And that includes bleed and poison.
And no, as a reminder, fixing your HOLLOWING (Ugly face) will not ruin Yurias quest, you can still get the darkdrift blade either by killing the last boss with her. (btw, if she dies before you, just die yourself, so that the last boss encounter restarts and you can resummon her, it works, ive done it countless times)
Also, no, before anyone asks, healing hollowing will not lock you out of Yuria's quest. You can still get the Darkdrif katana.

I ended up spending over 400k souls to heal all 8 of these. Definitely not worth it mates.

To heal the dark sigil it’s supposed to cost the same amount as 5 levels from where I’m at now. Then why is it that when I went to heal it, I noticed that with the same number of souls I can level up 8 times?
- Anonymous
I've never seen anyone heal the dark sigil after "marrying" Anri, so ima try it and later and post the results.
- Anonymous
Can you kill yuria after the anri awoval? So that you can have another ending rather than usurpation?
- Anonymous
coulda made it a actual point that yurias vanishes now by perfect run is ****ed and i was 40 hours in
- Anonymous
I found out that the fire keeper will only look away from you when you have the dark sigil when she has eyes. Is this new information.
- Anonymous
Level 27 and it cost me 27.000 souls to get rid of it. Yuria told me she wanted nothing to do with me anymore so i had to kill her to get her ashes. She is tough so be careful.
You know, I think it would it be a good idea for someone to make a calculator for how many souls you need to use to cure the Dark Sigils using the Firekeeper. That's just a suggestion for anybody who actually sees this.

My speculation about "Dark Sigil" is that at the end of the Dark Souls II. It was a curse and it'd build up until you'd completely become hollow and forget everything and everyone. We were in constant search of humanity as we were losing ours. Only cure was Vendrick's Blessing to stop hollowing on death while wearing one of four crowns. Apparently on that note we somehow managed to cure the curse before Dark Souls III. Now in Dark Souls III, we get to choose if we want to embrace the "curse" once more. I mean it is Dark Souls after all.

I don't understand the hate towards "Dark Sigils" or "Usurp the Flame" ending. Seriously if you don't want that ending then you still have a choice to summon bloody fire keeper and end it that way. Besides why would you deprave yourself from a possible ending you could get?
Besides If you played the Dark Souls II: The Scholar of the First Sin, you'd relate to "Usurp the Flame" ending.
hold up, is it just me or is the phrase "This Dark Sigil will never heal, but there is a tale told of a Fire Keeper who returned from the Abyss, and brought great comfort to a bearer of the curse." a reference to the emerald herald and that one theory that said she was one of the daughters of the abyss, because only she was the one to refer to the mc as the bearer of the curse
- Anonymous
I don't understand this thing. Just a way to get a different ending? What does it even accomplish? And why do I need 8?
- Anonymous
I thought healing it would get rid of the level, and I was really mad that it didn't because I gotta start over now
- Anonymous
summoned ZIGGA for the demon princes & ended up getting 2 dark sigils after... FML :(
- Anonymous
Had to spend 190k worth of souls until I realized the more I died the more I had to spend in order to heal it .. That was on my first playthrough .. worth 5 levels at the time , pity
- Anonymous
Got dropped 5 of these by a hacker, went to The ringed city to get some stones to cure myself.Mind you they dropped me it in the high wall of Lothric

HOW do I get my dark sigel out of storage box and hollow? I’m ng+8 btw

Man I really wish I didn’t get that one free level. I’m on my first play through. I asumed that drawing out your true strength was just one free level up but hoo boy was I wrong cause now I’m on my way to bad ending town. I didn’t notice the dark sigil until a bit after I got the free level so I asumed it had somthing to do with an effect left by an enemy or somthing or maybe an item I had on. Not sure if I should bother getting rid of it since as I’ve seen hollowing does absolutely nothing in this game.
- Anonymous
Thinking about it, if you speedran this game around 40 times, using yoel’s ‘drawing of true strength’ you would easily be able to get to max level, and this is excluding the levels you would gain from the souls from bosses along the way, so this could be reduced to a probable min of 30 runs. Of course, this is a lot, probably too much, but it is way easier than the farming that many people who got max level would have to suffer.
Slight question is there any way for me to get more if yoel is already dead or no? Cause there is a katana i want..

- Anonymous
soooo if you heal the dark sigil its impossible to get anymore on that playthrough?
- Anonymous
Because I'm an idiot and thought maybe it might help -the "Dark Sigil" item can be found where your keys and special items are in your inventory roster, not your general inventory.
- Anonymous
It should be noted here that once your character attains max level (802) you can no longer acquire dark sigils, meaning after that, Yuria will be gone from all future playthroughs for your character. Also, if you heal your hollowing with a purging stone after clearing a game at max level, you can never be hollow again with that character, ever. All summon aid and storyline pertaining to Yuria will no longer be accessible.

To lessen the confusion on the cost. To HEAL the dark sigil will cost you the price of 5 levels FROM your CURRENT level. I will use my current faith character for example. My current character is SL50 with the dark sigil, so it will cost me the price of levels 50-54.
50 15,102
51 15,682
52 16,274
53 16,879
54 17,497
TOTAL COST TO HEAL DARK SIGIL AT LEVEL 50: 81,434.
So why would you heal it? The only draw back to hollowing is that you look like beef jerky and have to spend souls on Purging Stone OR use the Velka Statue to get rid of the beef jerky skin.
1) You are early-mid game and do not want to deal with having to keep paying to stop looking like beef jerky
2) You are NOT going for the other ending tied to the dark sigil
If you do NOT meet those requirements, then don't heal it, you don't need to. If you are late game and want to look pretty, just pay for the stones, 4500 souls are easy to come by, you can stock up on them easy.
- Anonymous
Isn't 8 levels' worth of souls a bit much? You only level up 5 times with Yoel, the 3 sigils from Anri don't affect the stats...
- Anonymous
I finished levelling at Yoel, killed Yuria, and healed my dark sigils at the Firekeeper, I have no more sigils. (two weeks later & on the same playthrough) I have discovered I once again have 5 dark sigils after dying 3 times and now have 15 hollowing (even though I must have died atleast 12 times in the same week without hollowing). Does anybody know what might have caused this?
- Anonymous
i started a new game stil the ugly look so i thougd i needed to cure it and went on but turning out that i cant cure it because i dont have dark sigel somone how can i cure myself from this (dark sigel/bug)?
- Anonymous
I don't even have the option to heal them , can someone help me out.
- Anonymous
It should also mention that dark sigils don't carry on to ng+
- Anonymous
I leveled up with Yoel twice and got no dark sigil. I never healed it and immune hollowing said stuck at 5 and won't move
- Anonymous
The cost of healing the Dark Sigil is equal to the cost to gain a number of levels equal to the "free" levels gained with the Dark Sigil (including the incrementally higher cost of the higher levels).
Huh?

Hey guys does anyone know how to get dark sigils without leveling up? I have a build a couple levels away from the meta and I want to get the Yuria of Londor armor.

Could this be like a miniture Darksign, meant for the Unkindled?
For some reason that bull***** about coop advice is still appearing in the live page even though it doesn't when you're in edit mode; can someone please help me clean some of the garbage (personal wild theories about why something happened don't belong in the live page)

I tired to heal my dark sigil but it costs more than my level required souls. The souls required to level up is 25000 but for healing the dark sigil is 133000. Can you help me please.

You CAN summon a second hollowing friend for coop, IF you use a Dried Finger! However, this will make coop gameplay very tiring, as you will draw immense invasion attention.
- Anonymous
You'll die with the Silver Cat Ring or Spook if the fall was already lethal. Example, if you survive a fall with 1HP, then they'll break the fall damage, if you fall an extra inch (making it lethal) then they won't protect you. I remember how many times I've died dropping down because the fall would've killed me naturally at full health.
- Anonymous
I was SL 32. I healed the dark sigil while I was embered (pure coincidence). I didn't lose any levels.
- Anonymous
Basically the game forces you to kill yourself seven times just to unlock Yuria of Londor. FromSoft doesn't understand that there are players out there who are trying NOT to die. If death becomes so meaningless, it takes away any sense of danger in the game. This is basic immersion 101 FromSoft, come on. I would like to see them add another way of unlocking Yuria of Londor without being forced to kill yourself seven times.

Its all looks right? 5 free levels at the cost of looking ugly, which wont mean anything if your covered in armor. Why remove it? There's a ring that restores your look right?
- Anonymous
just wasted 30 hours of my life on my luck build. didn't know the most recent patch made it so healing the dark sigil also removes your hollowing, which screwed over all my hollow infused weapons
- Anonymous
can you get the dark sigils without leveling up? i'm already at SL 120

- Anonymous
Tried to heal the dark sigal on my 3rd play through.. Requires 962336 soul.. Haha yeah right
- Anonymous
As of now (patch 1.4) and earlier, Dark Sigils are removed when starting New Game+, making the 5 levels truly free, as long as you don't mind the beef jerky look. You can also go ahead and get 5 more free levels when you pick up Yoel again in your next playthrough
- Anonymous
What's actual use of 3 more sigils obtained after "marriage"? Is this only to gain hollowing even more?
- Anonymous
I was trying to summon 2 phantoms from the tons of summon signs before the pontiff boss fight and not one worked however I had 5 dark sigils and before I got them I had little to no trouble summoning phantoms can someone find out if this is true? Would really appreciate it!
- Anonymous
If I have 5 sigils when I start NG+, do I have to get another 5 levels from Yoel to get Yuria to appear again?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This is very confusing. At one point I was able to summon two people. Then as I began hollowing, I could only summon one. Now I can summon two again. I have 5 sigils and 99 hollowing stat.
- Anonymous
but why do I need this free level? im fine doing levels the normal way..
- Anonymous
does anybody know if going into ng+ removes your hollowing/dark sigils
- Anonymous
I'm in NG+ and don't want to level up any farther but i want to do the quest line so i'm wondering if can get the levels now and remove them later.
- Anonymous
On my first play trought I could summon 3 players (without dried fingers) in Irithyll where the pvp spot is right after the first boss. I know theres some areas where u are only able to summon 1 player, this is not one of them. On my first game i did not use the dark sirgil at all.On ng+ I used the dark sirgil for the trophie ending but now when I return I can only summon 1 player (with dried fingers 2). I cured my char at the firekeeper but did not use this so called purging stone altought I got 0 hollow.I really want to host pvp arenas with at least 3 other phantoms, but now i cant do so anymore. Does anyone know how I can solve this? thx in advance
- Anonymous
I hollowed to level 99, have 5 dark sigils, and can't summon anyone anymore, I can still be summoned though. I cured it with a purging stone still can't summon.
- Anonymous
I healed my Dark Sigils with the help of the Fire keeper. She ALSO removed the complete amount of hollowing.I payed round about 37k souls.
- Anonymous
I let yoel draw out my true strength but I didn't get the dark sigil
- Anonymous
Is there any way to get the dark sigils back cause i wan't to do the quest
- Anonymous
can anyone explain why players should use this? As far as i can see you will only be able to get hollow for a few free level which u then have to pay anyways for when u want to cure your self ?
- Anonymous
WTF my guy just died............ I have not got any sigils help
- Anonymous
I got my fifth sigil at hollowing level 15 not 16. Bug or is it wrong in the article?
- Anonymous
I have 8 Dark Sigils but I don't want to use them. There are 3 Sigils and a cutscene in Lothric Castle I found behind a hidden wall.
- Anonymous
Sooo... I just removed my dark sigil, thinking that Yoel would give me one again as I was Hollow level 4, but instead my hollow stat disappeared and Yoel does not propose me to tease out my inner strengh again...Did I just lock myself from the third ending? -_-
- Anonymous
For those who are wondering this effects the third optional ending which requires you to have this dark sigil for yuria to spawn and you have to keep this dark sigil without curing your hollowing by the fire keeper or use purging stone and complete the steps for the ending but other than that is purely for show there may be other uses i might have left out.
- Anonymous
For all of those who are wondering, you do not lose max health upon death. Besides the free levels, it is purely cosmetic. The benefit of having the dark sigil is access to Yuria's questline which leads to a secret third ending.
- Anonymous
I got the 5 sigils grim the pilgrim, and healed them, but my character is still a hollow. Anyone know what the deal is?
- Anonymous
If you plan on getting the dark sigil at all, I highly recommend getting all 5 levels so the witch appears, and then buying a purging stone from the witch for 4,500 to reverse hollowing. Buy the stone (but don't use it) *before* you cure the final dark sigil. Once you cure it, the witch stops talking to you and leaves. But now you have a purging stone in your inventory and you can reverse the hollowing. So far we haven't found a single dropped purging stone. Simply curing the dark sigil stops you from getting further hollowed, but you're still hollowed; reversing hollowing while not curing dark sigil gets you hollowed the next death. But following these steps is the easiest way to remove everything, keeping in mind the NPC will leave once you cute the mark.
- Anonymous
I thought the npc died because you get 5 sigil and it redeems him so he can die like he said he was trying to.
- Anonymous
I really don't see the use of this other than a free level because I hated hallowing in previous souls games I do not have the game yet but as of right now I do not see why this is a mandatory item
- Anonymous
I got a sigil, then healed it, and never could get another one. I only got one free level so far, and yoel won't give me more. He isn't dead yet but I'm quite far and it's been forever and I fear he might die soon. I visit him every time I finish a boss or an area but he never wants to give me a level
- Anonymous
So what does it do? Does it have to do with anything else apart from changing your appearance into a hollow? I mean it has to be bad at some point. Free levels always end up having bad consequences
Why do you even get the 3 extra sigils from Anri? You can't level up with them. They could've just left it at 5. 8 is a weird number
