Man-grubs are an Enemy in Dark Souls 3

Man-grub Enemy Description

Man-grub Combat Information

  • There are two types of Man-grub, unarmed and caster.
  • Unarmed Man-grubs use their bodies to harm the player by swiping with their arms, lunging and vomiting.
  • The caster type uses a Man-Grub's Staff to cast spears of light.
    • Their projectiles always move in a straight line, no homing.
  • They can be easily lured with ranged attacks.

Man-grub Notes & Trivia

  • A dead Man Grub can be found in the watery area of Irithyll of the Boreal Valley, from which the miracle Great Heal is looted.
  • A non-hostile Man Grub outside Rosaria's chamber will drop the Red Sign Soapstone upon death.
  • A caster Man-Grub can be found in the rafters of The Grand Archive, under Gertrude's cage where the miracle Divine Pillars of Light can be obtained.
  • Their projectiles much resemble the Saint Bident, whose original owner, Saint and Archdeacon Klimpt, is the provider of the sacred seal that marks the Rosaria's Finger's Covenant.
    • These creatures may be Fingers of Rosaria who have failed in their duty and were transfigured as punishment, as many of their bodies are found nailed down on stakes outside of Rosaria's Bedchamber and a new one in Rosaria's Bedchamber drops the Heysel Pick upon death. Alternatively, and perhaps more likely, they may be those who have undergone the process of "rebirth" too often and have lost their ability to retake human form, which according to Rosaria could be as few as five iterations.
  • The man-grubs resemble fingers or swollen tongues both in shape and in movement, much akin to the body parts associated with their covenant.
  • With their shiny golden skin, bulbous bodies, and bald heads, the man-grubs bear a superficial resemblance to Smough

So I was playing co-op with a buddy the other night, he was hosting. We were just near the bridge area where patches is (or on the opposite side, can't remember) and a whole bunch of grubs dropped from the roof and attacked me. My buddy couldn't see them. Has anyone experienced that?

I have been doing a lot of pvp with this character i'm currently running, does that have something to do with them spawning and him not being able to see them? Or was it simply a desync issue? Thoughts?

Why is the part about Smough even there?? The "superficial resemblance" is extremely weak to be worth of any mention.

i get around 50.000 souls per hour by farming these around the rosaria's chamber while using the silver serpent ring

i wish the white spell from staff-wielding man grubs was actually useable from the player, i dont care if it would be literally the easiest to dodge spell that you could literally dodge by just slow walking, this spell has a very fancy design and i would totally use it against NPCs if it costed like only 1 FP each, i mean, cmon, spells like farron dart that deal pitiful damage cost 3 FP, so why not have this spell costing 1 FP since it deals a lot more damage than farron dart, it would actually be a bit useful to spam against certain slow bosses since they are huge and have huge hitboxes

The one suposed to drop the xanthous crown and heysel pick doesnt appear for me. Ive tried leveling up the covenant and teleporting back and forth. What am i doing wrong. And yes. I have killed the abyss watchers

I'd find it funny if the non-hostile Man-Grub, in Rosaria's Chamber, was Heysel... she invades once, gets beat, respecs/remakes herself to try to beat you again. Then invades, again, and again, only to eventually become a Grub... lol.

The man grub near the Rosaria bonfire drops the xanthous crown and Heysel's pick. Heysel wore a cloth around her face. Could it be possible that the grub is Heysel herself?

Can you cast the same spell, "Spears of Light" or whatever that the article above mentioned that the Man-Grub with staff uses. That thing is pretty. I want it. Please tell me!!

I have red on reddit that you can actually do 5+ times of transform without becoming a man grub. The game will scare you saying if you do the 6th time you will become a man grub but no you do not. https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/4fmoiz/has_anyone_become_a_grub/?st=is0jftve&sh=3b07dea1

                            • They drop Loyd talismans, marking them as unread hunters... quite unsuccessful ones at that. The were defeated and tuned by Rosaria into this form that is weak deformed and almost immobilized. Seems like a good idea to turn returning undead hunter nearly harmless. There are even holy man amongst them casting offensive miracles, that would not be strange to have holy man with undead hunting party. The deacons who are in pact with Aldrich use only dark and pyromancy, clearly separating themselves from any relation to man grub.

                              • So on this playthrough I have not done anything for Leonhard's questline. I literally spoke to him, got the 5 cracked eye orbs, and never saw him again. My next boss is the Dragonslayer Armor (already killed Oceiros + Champion Gundyr). I went back to Rosaria's Bed Chamber and found a second non-hostile man-grub WITHOUT a staff that is sitting right next to the bonfire INSIDE the bed chamber. This is NOT the one that drops the Red Soapstone. I also cannot find Leonhard in my world anymore. Could this be a transformed Leonhard? Also, Rosaria's Bedchamber bonfire is disabled for me. I can fast travel to it, but I cannot interact with the bonfire at all after I fast travel there. I have also not joined the covenant at all this playthrough as I'm doing Sirris's questline. Any ideas as to what's happening?
