Unbreakable Patches is a NPC in Dark Souls 3.
Unbreakable Patches Information
Unbreakable Patches can be found within the Cathedral of the Deep disguised as Siegward of Catarina. He will spawn once you open the main doors to the cathedral (up the elevator to the left of the boss room), reload the area, and then return, if you've spoken to Siegward after killing the Fire Demon in Undead Settlement. He will trick you into crossing the bridge which he will then lower down to the giants. If you meet him again on the other side of that bridge down the stairs from Rosaria's bed chamber, he will apologize for tricking you, and if you refuse to forgive him you'll earn the prostration gesture and a rusted coin. He will then become a vendor in that spot until he moves to Firelink Shrine.
- If you light the Rosaria's Bed Chamber bonfire before he tricks you into crossing the bridge, he will leave the Cathedral Only cross the rafters to the bed chamber after you have beaten the Fire Demon with Siegward in Undead Settlement and been tricked to cross the bridge in Cathedral of the Deep. After dropping down, he will reappear in his normal attire by the lever that raises the bridge (across from where you first met him in the Catarina armor).
- If Patches lowers you down to the giants in the Cathedral of the Deep, he will not show up to lock you into the Firelink Shrine tower until you talk to him again on the other side of the bridge in the Cathedral.
- If you kill the giants in the Cathedral of the Deep before talking to Patches by the bridge, he will be shocked that the giants are gone when he lowers you back down to the cathedral floor. Regardless he will still show up on the other side of the walkway by Rosaria's bedchamber.
An alternative method of meeting him (if you first lighted Rosaria's bonfire, before opening the main gate) is to buy the Tower Key and access the lift above the Firelink Shrine. He will trap you here (after you open the main gate). After escaping his trap he becomes a merchant in the upper floor of Firelink Shrine. Chose to not forgive him for a Rusted Gold Coin and to learn the gesture Prostration. After reloading the area he will be squatting down. Talk to him to learn the Patches Squat gesture.
Patches Questline
Patches can have an important effect on the questlines of NPCs Siegward of Catarina and Greirat of the Undead Settlement.
- He has Siegward's Armor equipped after trapping Siegward and stealing it from him. This armor is needed to save Siegward in the well outside the Cathedral of the Deep. Opening the Cathedral doors is not the trigger for Patches to have the armor, you need to actually reload the Cathedral area. You do not need to talk to Siegward in the well first.You can buy the armor from Patches or just kill him for it.
- When Greirat leaves on his second scavenger mission Patches will refuse to sell you any items until you tell him where Greirat has gone. If you have not yet bought the Catarina armor off of him and tell him where Greirat has gone he will save him. After killing Pontiff Sulyvahn, Patches ceases to pester you for Greirat's location. If you have bought the armor off of him and given it to Siegward in the well, Siegward will instead rescue him.
- After Greirat has left to scavenge in Lothric Castle, Patches will ask where he has gone. If you tell him, he will stop selling you items and will leave Firelink Shrine until you defeat a boss. He returns with a Hidden Blessing which he sells for 16,000 souls.
Notes:
- If Siegward dies before or during the fire demon fight, Patches will not show up for the rest of the game cycle.
- Patches has a number of triggers than cause him to appear in a given area.
- He will appear in the Cathedral of the Deep after its front door is opened and you travel away and return to the area.
- If the Deacons of the Deep are killed or you take the shortcut to Rosaria, Patches will disappear from the cathedral. He will next appear if you go up the bell tower in Firelink Shrine and locks you in.
- Opening the front door of the Cathedral of the Deep and then going up the bell tower in Firelink Shrine will trigger Patches' event early.
- If you give Siegward his armor before you meet Patches if you kept it from a previous playthrough he will not spawn in the Cathedral and will spawn in the tower in Firelink Shrine.
- If you can't find Patches at all, save Siegward and then talk to Siegward inside the well outside the Cleansing Chapel bonfire. This triggers Patches story to continue.
- If you have missed Patches triggers by going to far and can't get him to show up in Cathedral of the Deep, you can go back to Firelink and trigger him there. When he shows up as a merchant in Firelink you can buy the Catarina Armor from him there to continue Siegward's quest line in the Chapel.
- His dialogue at Cathedral of the Deep and the bell tower at Firelink Shrine varies based on your character's gender.
- If you talk to Patches in the Cathedral and then proceed to the ceiling rafters to the drop off point near Rosaria, the event will no longer occur upon crossing the narrow pathway,and he will not be present till the Firelink event.
- Attacking Greirat will aggro Patches.
- If you tell Patches where Greirat has gone after you send him to Lothric Castle, after defeating every boss in the game, you will have no way of getting Patches to return to Firelink. Unfortunately, even if you have The Ringed City DLC installed and you reinstate Judicator Argo to reset the Halflight, Spear of the Church boss fight, defeating this boss will not make Patches come back.

Oh, I am sorry. That was my hand, as you know, but the deed, well, that was the armour's doing.
Regrettable, truly. But behold, I'm stripped clean of that unruly attire.
And look at you, not a scratch!

Yes, we'll be fine, I can tell, it's that rotten curse, it is, the untidy mess." (laughs)
"Oh, ahh, yes, now, it wasn't me, but you still deserve an apology.

(Forgive him) "Oh fantastic! A wily second chance!

"Hey, what happened to Greirat, anyhow?
I haven't seen him at all lately.
If you know where he's scurried off to, be sure and tell me.
I need to stock up, and if he's gone and croaked, he'll have left a goldmine."
[Don't tell him] "Right, yes, I see how it is.
Some things can't be divulged. Even between friends.
It comes with the territory, I know.
But if you happen to recall any details, do be a saint.
Do it for old Patch's botique of wonders, at least." (chuckles)

[Tell him he went to Irithyll] "What? Gone all the way to Irithyll, has he?

Trivia
- The name "Unbreakable Patches" references his reoccurring appearance in every Miyazaki directed Souls game (Bloodborne included.) In every instance Patches tricks the player into an unfortunate situation only to beg for forgiveness when you outsmart him. Previous names included "Patches the Hyena," "Trusty Patches," and "Patches the Spider."
- When Patches takes residence in the Firelink Shrine he mentions that Greirat did him a good turn in Lothric Dungeon.
- Patches will not sell the 'Horsehoof Ring' unless you have met the requirements and spoken to him at least once
- Although Patches' line when he traps you in the Cathedral is listed as differing based on your gender (referring to the player either as a greedy guts or insatiable wench), and the subtitles are for the dialogue reflective of that gender, Patches will refer to you as a Greedy Guts in the vocal line regardless.

Something interesting about the "Luckiest man" dialogue. It only happens after Greirat passes away on the third trip of natural causes. Since both Greirat and Patches are alive, I never got this dialogue to trigger.

It seems to not be possible to spawn Patches early by buying the tower key. He will not trap you unless you've lit Rosalia's bonfire. So it's either A) fight the demon with Siegward, go to Cathedral of the Deep and have him trick you there, or B) buy the tower key, go directly to Rosalia's bonfire, then have him trick you at Firelink tower. Either way you still have to kill the Crystal Sage and make your way through most of Cathedral of the Deep.

I had followed the guide of the walkthrough and didn't know I could talk to him. I thought since he pushed me off he's an enemy, so I attacked him with a bow on distance. Never knew there was an option to talk to him. :/ Now he's dead and I couldn't even check his sales.
Killed him and took his ashes so I wouldn't have to run up the fucking stairs to buy his shit.
Most amusingly, my killing blow pushed him out the window to his left, causing him to fall to his death behind Lothric's throne.

The trivia forgot to mention dark souls 2's mild mannered pate(basically ds2 is weird but it's patches) and the fact that patches is originally a armored core character not a souls/borne/elden ring character and it doesn't mention his appearance in elden ring some noteworthy things i state as such here.

GDMMT!! I've restarted this stupid quest I dunno how many times across how many saves. It is too easy to despawn him. Is the intended path REALLY to sneek past the giant in the swamp w/o killing him, cross the platform towards deacons, activate the lift to the door across from rosarias, reload the gadam game and just hope he's there? The intended path seems to be getting UP by sneaking through the rafters, but apparently this triggers him to despawn in the area. This makes me so angry, I just wanna see the stupid cutscene!

This page mentions Patches won’t remain a merchant if you send him after Greirat. But I’m having the opposite problem. He keeps asking if I know about Greirat, and he won’t sell me any rusted coins. Patches never showed up for me. I talked to siegward in the well, I opened the door, I reloaded three times, no patches, So I just said screw it and lit rosarias bonfire. Does this lock me out of siegward's and patches' quest?

That is incorrect, If you have already killed the 2 giants, Patches still shows up (as a vendor) on the other side of the walkway by Rosaria's bedchamber. He moves to Firelink shrine after he locks you in the tower.

I killed Patches on the spot after he apologized to me way up there by the third lever (i bought the DS1 Thief set before attacking though.
So he dropped not only the ring, the winged spear, his ashes and 2000 souls, but the entire catarina set + pierce shield anyways.

Just a note, he won't spawn in the Cathedral if you've been through the rafters, you don't even have to descend to the Rosaria area. I went through there after finding it on NG+, not knowing you could use it to get to Rosaria, then I couldn't find him where he spawned last time. I just went through, lit the bonfire, and he showed up in the belltower at Firelink. If you did the same, just hit the Rosaria bonfire and he'll show up at Firelink like normal.

I don't know when they patched it, but just opening the front doors to the cathedral will spawn Patches without having to reload. As you open the door you can hear him raising the bridge if you listen carefully. I'm glad they changed this, because the old way was extremely unintuitive. It does break the logic of you 'letting him into the cathedral' with the doors, but at least it gives new players a chance to find him in a more natural way.

This fact needs to be changed: He WILL show up on the other side of the rafters, even if the giants are dead. He will only go to Firelink AFTER you meet him on the other side.
This is to make sure you you follow along with Siegwards quest while he's in the well (so you can buy the armor and save him).

Patches' mannerisms match the written style of a good number of flavor texts (like the use of "Only," to start a sentence); combined with the reverent prose for his own equipment leads me to believe he is the flavor text author/self-insert for Miyazaki

Guide is incorrect. I just killed both giants, opened doors, talked to onion patches, got dropped and he commented on missing giants, proceeded to rafters for the first time, and he WAS waiting on balcony selling stuff. Say what you will.. I like the patches character.. his pettiness and their mentality kept him from hollowing (though he got close in ringed city) as all the others hollowed for various reasons.. 10 outta 10 would let patches troll me again

Hello my dear comrades, patches is still in the cathedral, I met him before on the bridge, then met him near rosaria. I proceeded, killed the deacons, went to irithyll, sent Greirat to the second plunder and the bald bastard is still near rosaria!! He should be at firelink by now .. please help!

So I killed the giants before being lowered down by patches. He raged. Then he didnt appear at the firelink shrine like it said he would.. he appeared next to rosarias chamber near the lever. I didnt light the bonfire before to make this happen and now he wont go to firelink. Cool. Jist purchase and sell options. Hate how buggy this **** is

patches deals 182 damage on r1s(226 winged spear ar) against 53 defense and 0 absorption. so if you want his exact damage you can level up your winged spear to +6 and have 16 strength and 28 dex (you can go on weapon calculator to see if theirs a more optimal way to get the exact number of 226 (defense reduced it to 182) ). patches health is not 800 its between 1200 and 1300, or its 1287 (that's the number he died of poison on) (i cant remember the exact number he died on, but its very close).

I've killed the giants, had him lower me and have had him show up on the other side. He does not leave the Cathedral like said above.
I've killed the Deacons and Abyss Watchers in my game and I was still able to trigger his initial appearance in the Cathedral.

IT NEEDS TO BE NOTED THAT KILLING THE GIANTS WILL PREVENT PATCHES FROM SPAWNING IN THE CATHEDREL.
I made the same mistake multiple times given how easy they are to handle but that is a clear reason why he won't spawn even after hitting all the triggers.
He WILL spawn if you hit the triggers and are alive because he's a piece of **** that wants you dead for your stuff. The giants give him an edge. Killing the Giants AFTER he spawns, triggers different dialogue.
So, if you do kill him, you HAVE to use the alternate trigger in the tower at Firelink Shrine by taking the Elavator up and then back down. This will progress his quest and allow you to head back to the cathedral giving Siegward his armor as well as get the Prostration Gesture if you do NOT forgive him.

I kinda like him. He's a big a-hole, but i still like him for some reason.
I defeated the fire demon together with Siegward. Then I slayed the deacons of the deep without talking to Siegward in the well, meeting patches or finding Rosaria's bedchamber. When I, much later, talked to Patches after being locked in the Tower, he was selling the Catarina armour even though I never talked to Siegward in the well.

So in my playthrough, Siegward died during the fire demon fight (fell off a cliff, wasn't killed by the demon itself), but Patches still showed up for me later at the Firelink Tower.

hes not selling the Catarina Armor, i missed him at cathedral so i activated him at firelink. this wiki says that he should still sell the armor if i did it this way, i also can get him to ask where Greirat went in Irithil.

For some reason patches isn't showing up in the cathedral even though Siegward is in the well. Is there some other requirement that I missed or something?
