Yhorm's Great Machete is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

Great machete wielded long ago by Yhorm the Giant.

Yhorm once lumbered on the frontlines with a greatshield. But one day, in place of his shield, a left-hand notch was added to his machete, enabling the smashing technique that would become the legacy of his later years.

Skill: Warcry
Let out a spirited warcry that temporarily boosts attack, and enables a crushing strong attack.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be infused or buffed.
  • Reinforced using Titanite Scales.
  • At 66 STR, Yhorms Machete +5 AR is 650. When two handed it gets 707 AR, highest number of all physical damage weapons.
  • Has the highest range out of all the Greataxes.
  • Neither this nor Great Machete have a guaranteed combo while two handing. Its damage coupled with its length might have been considered too efficient, as is the case with the Washing Pole, and thus they decided to exchange the two-hit combo for hitbox size.
  • Unlike other war cry weapons, there is no variation in the animations between one-handed and two-handed heavy attacks after war cry has been used.

Why use this weapon when you can use broken pontiff knoght princes’ profaned moonlight black knight ultra curved straight sword

      • Anonymous

you know... i love Fextralife. it's camouflaging my favorite weapon by neglecting to mention it's highest potential AR. and then it takes Yhorm's machete (puke) and puts it on a pedestal over less than TEN AR two handed at 40 str, and less than 30 ar at the 66 str listed here.

yhorm's DOES have significant range. but range isn't a game changer in PvP, and it lacks combo pressure. so it's basically a glorified crutch for beating the game, that's useless against other players after a certain skill level (i mean, anything is useless against someone who has mastered the art of the caestus parry. but thankfully there aren't as many of those as there used to be). AND it encourages making str a dump stat, when you'd be much better off going with stats that provide better combat sustain either through improving mitigation, recovery or stamina.

and if they CAN'T parry well? all i'm saying is that there is a weapon out there somewhere that's almost as good as yhorms, and out-trades almost all other two handed weapons IN THE GAME. and you'll probably never find it xD.

          BEST PURE STR WEAPON!!!
A scaling = scales well beyond 40 lvl soft cap
          twin princes made easy :-)
kinda makes me regret going for quality build, because had to grind levels for dex, should have put them in vitality/vigor and go for tank build!

One of only 2 weapons in the game that can’t true combo its R1’s when 2 Handed, the other being the Great Machete. You’re going to lose hyper armor trades if you want to combo (which only works with 1h) and you’re going to get out damaged when admiring through a heavy weapon’s attack. Honestly, **** the devs for not fixing that bug.

            • Anonymous

Such a shame the devs dropped the ball on the Machete weapons. Making their 2H R1’s fail to actually stunlock into each other (unlike literally every single other weapon in the game) makes the machetes essentially useless on their own.
If you use them for the hyper armor, you’re going to lose trades with other weapons since you will only land 1 hit as opposed to 2.

And if you’re thinking “then I’ll just 1-hand it so I can combo”, you lose most of your hyper armor.

I cannot possibly understand why the devs made every single other weapon (including Greataxes with the same exact moveset) combo, but decided “hey, let’s just screw over the machete weapons!”

              • Anonymous

Highest AR on pure strength weapons with no DEX investments. Black knight greataxe on 66STR/60DEX while two handing has an AR of 724. Dear people, learn how to speak

I found out doing Warcry up on NPC's faces stuns them as i did that with this weapon on the Shrine Handmaid. Now i know i can show people who's weapon compensates for something the most!

I'm known to wep swap and I 2 hand almost anything with HA.. including this.. as a crit whore myself if they aren't good it won't matter that the moves are better 1h and if they're good well I'll be switching soon but I don't wanna be outpoised or parried easily.. I parry this thing 1 handed all the time, back stab the users/and get backstabbed using it sometimes too.. it's still an ultra

have used this since late 2016 for PvP and haven't changed since. Absolutely destroys low absorption players. One combo alone can do 70% damage... even more against the lighter armors... 1H moveset is by far better than 2H.... 1 handed R2 hits have insane ground hit boxes that extend well beyond the blade. Roll catching with 1H R2 and then again with a charged R2 follow up is so satisfying to do. My favorite weapon and all i've used for almost 4 years.

                      • Anonymous

it seems like sometimes the second 2h r1 true combos into the first. i think this happens when the opponent trades with the first r1.

So idk why people super like or super dislike this. Pros: Easily the best source of Standard Damage, which, btw, even in full lapps, is the best type of damage in the game for pvp. Cons: kinda slow, parriable(though not worth attempting) and unbuffable. Dont like that you cant two hand? too *****ing bad, get 66 strength anyway and use the lothric warbanner. That gives you WAY better damage then two handing ever will. Have fun doing like 900-1600 in two hits and being tanky af. Dont like the running attacks? switch it to offhand, problem solved. its straight up ridiculous for damage in this way, far outdamaging any dark scrub or buffer. Screw it, get like 40 strength and grab sacred oath, wolf ring, and some poise armor and boom you can now trade with everything but a greathammer. have fun stomping on literally anybody with 2-3 hits.

                          • Ok so I see a lot of people who use this thing in a less optimal way so I feel the need to clear things up. This weapon should not be 2-handed: The small damage bonus is not worth the loss of the light attack combo The best way to use this is in the off-hand: When using this in the offhand and a straight sword in the main hand you have a setup that is incredibly strong. You can shred their health with a yhorm's combo and finish them with the faster attacks of the straight sword. (For a dark build, use the Dark infused Great Machete)

It does lots of damage, and is BEASTLY on a 99 strength build. But I don't see myself using it because I think it is overused in pvp, and it is cancer to put players through that. This is just my opinion though, and I haven't tested it on many different builds, so... whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I love this thing, one of my favorite weapons in all of the Souls series. It isn't flashy, nor is it the best weapon out there, but Goddamn is a beast in the right hands. You have no idea how many invasions, ganks or otherwise, I've saved myself from thanks to this weapon. Beautiful.

                                • Anonymous

Here's my deep opinion on this weapon as this weapon is probably one of the most unique weapons in the game for small reasons.

DAMAGE: When having 66strgth with this machete, you get a maximum of(including war cry) 750AR or somewhere around that range. That's a ALOT of AR for just a Great Hammer. On average, against Havel monsters, you'll hit for about 400 damage which to say the least is amazingly strong. People who wear cloth-like armor will take 100 - 300 more damage, which.. by the way... if they have a Damage Absorption of 10 - 18%, you'll guaranteed take 600 damage. So, it's a con that this weapon is dependent on your opponent's armor but at least some of the best DA(Damage Absorption) sets still can't handle this things damage. But a con I want to mention is that you're not guaranteed 2 hits from this weapon since it hits as hard as Long Island.

RANGE: My.... god... the range is insane for this thing. I would go as far as saying it's 3/4th the range of Dragonslayer Spear's range. It's really that much range. Now... I'm talking about the weapon's OVERALL range. This weapon has an awkward hitbox. The hitbox seems like it doesn't full reach ALL the way to the end of its' blade, more like half way. The rest of its' blade, the more tipper-part is where the pure shockwave comes from. So, for everyone wondering why its' shockwave is gigantic, this is the reason. This is a extreme benefit because for most slow weapons, when you swing, people love to punish them- BUT, for this weapon. HAH, NOPE. The shockwave will save you so many times from being punished.

WEAPON ART: I see people saying this weapon art sucks really badly. I'll gladly disagree. Dont underestimate this weapon's art because not only do you gain a good chunk of poise when attacking no matter how much you charge it but the unique style of attacking while running is what makes it amazing. On average, against somebody who has under 20% DA, you'll deal 600 damage. Over 21%, 500 damage. But, here's the thing though. That's your initial fully charged swing of the WA. Not the second(where you slide the machete against the ground and you slam it down like the Butcher's Knife). If you land the second WA hit, you'll deal even more damage ranging from 800 damage(under 20% DA). Dang man, that's a lot!

OVERALL: I recommend to use this weapon for PvP as it covers most things that you'll need throughout your PvP; damage, range, great WA. But major cons are: Stamina consumption, awkward split hitbox, slow, decent hyper armor for every swing excluding WA swings. The pros definitely out way the cons for sure. If you disagree, don't feel bad for disliking but if you agree, that's great. Bye.

When you get a drop attack on the host: It's been a long day, without you, my friend, And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again...

                                    • Anonymous

if you plan to use this as your main weapon what is a viable endurance number?? i am guessing somewhere near 30 or more??

                                      • Anonymous

I feel like two-handing it should just have the character hold onto the notch permanently, otherwise it's nothing more than the normal Great Machete with a fancier attack pattern and higher damage output. Imagine the cool movesets they could have come up with...

                                        • Anonymous

I personally don't get how this is supposed to be "incredibly OP", it's a good weapon but I wouldn't consider it OP. Yeah it can stun lock you and is strong, but the move set is so obvious that I personally don't get hit that often and I have little trouble countering it: Pokes with UGS's / Halberds etc., rolling AT THE RIGHT TIME, quicksteps all work great for me. As with all weapons, I feel like you just need to get used to it and learn it's strengths and weaknesses.

                                          • Anonymous

when you activate the weapon buff it changes its heavy attacks to a more 'Yhorm-like' style. That seems to be what's described here as "bug or odd way to balance"

                                            • Anonymous

For a +10 yhorm machete the damage increases by +5 for every level except a certain +4 at 43 str and by +2 after 45 so the softcap is at 45 str

also compatible great hammers (Yhorm's Great Machete lighter and have more ar than great hammers. less poises)

For most weapons, the softcap for a given stat seems to be 60, but with this I can still gain 2 more points of AR when I go to 61. Does anyone know when it isn't worth it to keep dumping points into str for this weapon?

                                                          • Anonymous

So I'm kinda new, bought the game on sale a week or two back, but this weapon feels WAY weaker than it should be for what it is. (not just AR, I mean overall)Was this ever nerfed or is it just this mediocre weapon?

All i do in pvp is one hit and chase as they try get heals. This thing may consume lots of stamina but you seriuously dont need to dodge too much if you get the first hit in

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

It's also a ***** to dodge because it has a huge hitbox and lag. FROM WHY.

                                                                      • Both Machetes have currently no combo while 2handed (guaranteed 2 hits while 2handed). This has to be a bug since every other weapon has a guaranteed combo. Could be useful in notes and tips.
