I just find how the character holds the swordspear a bit stupid like come on hold it more near blade not at the end where it is in no way able to use like that

So I ran a comparison between this and the Dragonslayer Spear and this one actually comes up with a lower AR though they shared scaling softcaps. Dex and Str at 40 (430 Physical), Fth at 35 (85 Lightning). Just like the DsS, the faith scaling actually accounts for a minimal amount of the damage and most of the lightning damage is innate. DsS AR at softcap: 538, DsSS AR at softcap: 515. I guess it really comes down to which moveset you prefer. Hope this helps people understand scaling for this weapon.

How good is this spear now? I saw some other people saying that despite the HA nerf on this thing, it's still very powerful and remains widely used, so I am wondering whether or not I should make a build for this.

          • 15 Jan 2017 07:23

I'm aware this thing is technically a spear, but considering part of it's moveset is that of halberds, does it suffer the damage penalty halberds get if you hit with anything but the blade?

This weapon took a bit of an unfortunate hit with the poise adjustment, since as noted you need at least 42 poise to hyper armor through even a curved sword R1 which makes trading, something this weapon was particularly good at, a bit harder. Otherwise though it's still really good I mean, its a pokey pokey weapon with a buff.

Which stat should I pay more attention to for this weapon Dex or faith I would like more lighting damage but does Increasing my faith not bring up the lightning damage up to much for a good difference? I have this weapon and I have 40 Dex and only 18 faith and 20 strength

                • Great Weapon25 Sep 2016 11:13

With 27 38 30 str dex faith, two handed it has 507 AR without WA buff, with weapon art buff, it has 587 AR. Combined with the fact that it has the best moves from the halberds and spears, makes it a incredibly good weapon imo

                  • So my question..17 Sep 2016 07:58

What's the highest AR anyone here has pulled off with this? Right now I'm looking for a new weapon faster than an UGS but devastating as well.

                    • Stats ?13 Sep 2016 19:51

I ve been using ultra greatswords and greadswords for a long time so my stats are based on str but id like to use spear now. does anyone give me advice about stats ? what my stats should be based on ?

                      • Beter than Gargoyle Flame Spear on my Pyro build22 Aug 2016 17:11

Fire damage is higher, but Physical damage is much better on the Dragon Slayer Swordspear +5 than my Gargoyle Flame Spear +10. It's nice to be able to mix up the elements I'm using (things that resist fire are often weak to lightning, (DSSS weapon art) or Dark (Black Flame Orb)) so I find it makes for a nice pyromancer's toolbox considering you're going to be investing a bit in faith anyway. Maybe not as good as GFS or a Chaos weapon at higher levels, but all in all a fun way to use Nameless King's soul if you're not interested in the Miracle or the sword.

                        • A decent faith dex build for this weapon. but low vigor and not as many attunement slots as one may like.11 Jul 2016 06:28

"So i'm gonna try a pure Faith build. with this weapon be viable?"<br/><br/>Up for debate. i would say. yes this weapon is viable. but the cost to wield it & horrible lightning scaling (30 AR bonus at 50 faith<br/>I reccomend trying out the damage using a rebirth and save restore. <br/>Personally on my faith build i have 15-17 str/dex 45 fth and am using a flamberge buffed with DMB. the flamberge is really awesome and seems similair to this weapon (hyper armor, different attacks etc) <br/><br/>it really depends on what you want your faith build to be. if you want high attunement(FP and slots) you should forget this weapon. if you want a very good melee weapon with the addition of decent damage spells that mostly act as mixups rather then pure damage. this weapon is totally worth it<br/><br/>My recommended stats after some calculation (no testing done. looking at viable damage numbers but not too much cost for SL 120<br/>27 vig<br/>24 att<br/>40 end<br/>7 vit<br/>16 str<br/>30 dex<br/>45 faith<br/><br/><br/>Talisman: Saints Talisman (Hyper armor casts are a must have. can be broken with 2 fast high poise hits on long casts though. keep that in mind)<br/>Rings : Darkmoon ring(2 att slots) Ring of suns firstborn (Must have for faith damage) Priestess ring (+5 faith for hitting total of 50 faith)<br/>More optionall rings:<br/><br/>Sage's (decent high dex lowers effecitveness of this ring. but is still a super choice)<br/><br/>Morne's (Less effectiveness then suns firstborn. but STACKS. but worse then increasing faith with priestess ring<br/><br/>Ring of Favor (Health, stamina(most importantly stamina) and ofc extra equip load for fashion.)<br/><br/>You can drop even more attunement for extra dex & change rings to Hunter's ring for a total of 40 Dex. (gives 36 extra AR)<br/><br/>If you have knight as started class. drop attunement down to 20 / 18.

                          • DEX/FAITH investment06 Jul 2016 02:59

So is it worth it to invest faith to 40 to reach this weapon's full potential? I mean faith does not affect AR very much, so does it boost the WA significantly? If not, then I think I'll just stick with my low faith DEX character.

                            • UHHHHHHHHHHH FAITH REQ?01 Jul 2016 00:34

Hey I heard somewhere that the faith requirement on this weapon only needs to be met if you plan to use the WA (something which I do not plan on doing if I end up using this weapon). I love this weapon's moveset and looks, but I'm less than enchanted by the faith requirement, so I was just wondering if this was true. It seems to me that not meeting the faith requirement will either give you a bouncy moveset like DkS1 (not sure if that carried over), or just gimp the overall damage (lightning or otherwise).
