Witchtree Branch is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

The branch of a large, well-tended witchtree, used as a sorcery catalyst.

Witchtree staves are customary in the far north, and allow for faster casting than ordinary catalysts.

Skill: Steady Chant
Boost the strength of sorceries for a very short period. Works while equipped in either hand.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • Spellbuff:
    • 60 Int = 184
    • 50 Int = 168
    • 40 Int = 149
    • 30 Int = 127
    • 20 Int = 104
    • 18 Int = 100
  • Provides a passive casting speed buff that is stronger than Sage Ring +2 (+99 Virtual Dexterity, but the cap is 50 Dexterity so it doesn't make a difference for most builds)
    • Buff applies for all spells you cast from all schools, even those cast with another catalyst in your other active slot.
    • Buff only applies while Witchtree Branch is in an active slot (ie. in your hand or on your hip).
    • You do not have to meet Int requirements for the buff to apply

Just to clarify, this staff directly gives you the maximum casting speed for any kind of magic, pyromancy, miracle spell or buff by just having it on hand or off hand?

The number of people in this comment section who can't read either the entire entry or any of the comments is incredible

I feel like this would be good for low level sorcery pvp build. You wouldn't have to waste any points to hit that cap, and the difference in spell buff at low levels is minimal.

I love this thing. Imo, the most logical use for this is for when you're in the middle of a fight, and need to cast something that doesn't depend on spellbuff: eg. Pestilent Mist, Snap Freeze, and so on.

if you're just interested in the casting speed buff (i.e. for the demon scar) you should go with the saint tree bellvine, as it has a more useful weapon art and lower weight. However, experimenting with a pure caster build using the crystal chime and this staff in the off hand, I discovered that the steady chant weapon art can be used to buff the sorceries casted with the crystal chime, resultig in a 12% damage buff. Does apply to sorceries exclusively, does notwork with miracles

what if you use both a Sage Ring and a Witchtree Branch? Is there a significant reduction in casting speed with both, or is one enough?

                • Solid alternative staff for someone who doesn't want to wear the sage ring or raise dex. It's look also really goes well with someone who is dabbling in some golden sorceries for support as hybrid build. Spook, Chameleon and hidden weapon all go great with with weapon. Remember, not all staves are meant for casting those big end game crystal soul spears!

                  • The speed buff boosts the catalyst in the opposite hand. So enjoy Court Sorcerer Staves with the speed of the witchtree without the need for dex investment or a sage ring.

It's easy enough to say that having both the ring and staff would waste stats, but by my math you'd be saving about 8 stat points in NG. Hard to say if it's worth it, but speed is pretty valuable, although its a shame most of the fast bosses are before Irithyll. I have no idea what the returns are on intelligence, but 8 points might be worthwhile damage. Of course, if you need those 8 points you'd probably just use a different staff...... I DIGRESS. Probably situational, or more suited to a duelist PvP build.

I have 23 intelligence and 25 dexterity and for casting great heavy soul arrow this staff does it in about two seconds and the heretic staff does it in 3. Given how many fast enemies there are in this game I chose speed over damage. Things might change actually if other staves have far more damage.

Like someone else mentioned, it may only be feasible for utility casting. (Even though the speed increase is almost next to nothing). The spell buff on this weapon is just terrible.

Why does this staff seem completely pointless? Am I missing something? Thr scaling is worse than the starter.

                            • Anonymous

It would be cool to see a comparison of casting times between this and court sorcerer staff.I can't help but wonder if there are hidden casting speed modifiers for dex on the different staves

                              • I imagine this staff would be funny with the spells Farron Dart and Farron Flashsword along with a Sage's Ring, though probably not all that effective.
