Greatsword

Strike/Thrust

Blade of Peril

8(17/17)

Gael's Greatsword is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3 The Ringed City DLC.

Greatsword of Slave Knight Gael, the only weapon that he kept with him from beginning to end.

Originally an executioner's sword made for decapitation, this blade is heavily chipped and stained with the blood of countless battles.

Skill: Blade of Peril
A precarious technique unique to undead Gael. Leap in any direction, slamming the greatsword to the ground, then follow with normal attack for a large spinning slash, or strong attack to back-step and jump foward in an overhead slam.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Buffed or Infused.
  • Upgrades with Titanite Scales.
  • Gael's Greatsword +5 has 504 AR at 40 strength and 40 dexterity.
  • The sword resembles a broken version of the Executioner's Greatsword. Before the boss fight with Slave Knight Gael, while he is still an NPC, he uses an Executioner's Greatsword.

It doesn't make any sense how the broken version is better in every single *****ing way than the actual sword

saw some people did the weapon art, followed by a backstep (towards wherever you're facing), then continue with strong attack, any idea what's that combo?

PS, i'm sorry if this is not the place to ask such questions

Does anyone notice that even though this is supposed to be a broken Executioner's Greatsword, it is actually longer than the unbroken Executioner's Greatsword?

Massively overrated weapon, partly because it has a true combo (which is legit but not invincible or easy), but mainly because I see people think the R2 poke justifies it being high tier like a straight sword. Hilarious.

It is weak in every other catagory

this is basically a worse version of the executioners greatsword, because the executioners sword actually has a higher scaling on strenght and doesn't require rare titanites.
of course the weapon art is better, but for real now you are not always going to be able to use it.
the devs tried to make those boss weapons from gael way too "balanced" so nobody would ***** about it being too strong, so they made his weapons rather bad...
i mean for real now it's the last boss (unless you fight midir last) in the *****ing game, at least make his weapons useful...
yes his weapons have an awesome design, but they aren't really good weapons compared to some others.

This sword pairs really well with the dragonhead shield. Use the shield flame to initiate one handed r1s and when two handing just spam l2 to play mind games until they slip up. Great weapon 9.8/10

Too bad it's so much weaker. I guess it's for the better to not have some ass stun lock you and deal 5/6 of your health

The WA,it really reminds me of a unpridictable (sorry if spelled wrong) Hard badass boss from the beloved Dark Souls 1

im kinda amazed that theres no refrence to gales great sword actually being a really worn out executioners great sword.

in the first DLC he uses that sword and if you pull them out at the same time you can see they are the same size and design.

yet some how there is a tid bit about it looking like the broken sword... like wut.

some one with mod power add this in. gales greatsword is his aged version of the executioners great sword

A great, balanced weapon. The only thing that makes it special is the WA which should be used sparingly (Which people don't, they straight up spam it then get killed). Using the WA while trading with any other weapon equal or greater to a Greatsword, especially combined with Leo is straight up suicide. Compared to Ringed Knight Weapons it can't combo with super hyper armor, but it can do great mix ups. You can't two or three hit anyone with this at 40/40 at SL 120, the only way this is possible is if you 2x R1 then 2x L1 and your opponent doesn't get away during the first two hit combo. The number of users has decreased, at least on PC. I still prefer MLGS as my GS of choice.

the executioner's sword (a really bad GS) is beastly when its broken? unlock this weapon early by getting the executioner's GS and beating it against the wall until its broken... but from a lore stand point breaking it must have killed it because it used to have "memory" and gain FP with each kill right?

reminds me of the hype from friedes scythe. GG is so overused now that people only land hits on me with the wa when not fighting me alone. I think the real gems of the DLC are the ringed knight weapons/shields. We will probably see alot more of these when the community cooled down a bit.

So much salt, you people do nothing but cry and complian it's pathetic, this weapon is easy to beat, hints you can parry it's WA on reaction. Stop crying like little babies and git gud.
