Blade of Peril

Gael's Greatsword is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3 The Ringed City DLC.

Greatsword of Slave Knight Gael, the only weapon that he kept with him from beginning to end.

Originally an executioner's sword made for decapitation, this blade is heavily chipped and stained with the blood of countless battles.

Skill: Blade of Peril
A precarious technique unique to undead Gael. Leap in any direction, slamming the greatsword to the ground, then follow with normal attack for a large spinning slash, or strong attack to back-step and jump foward in an overhead slam.

Notes and Tips:

  • Infusable: No
  • Buffable: No
  • Upgrades with Titanite Scales.
  • Gael's Greatsword +5 has 504 AR at 40 strength and 40 dexterity.
  • The sword resembles a broken version of the Executioner's Greatsword. Before the boss fight with Slave Knight Gael, while he is still an NPC, he uses an Executioner's Greatsword.

Softcaps & Scaling:

  • 2 Handed Stats:
    • 19/13 = 392 AR = Base Stats
    • 30/13 = 448 AR = Str Softcap
    • 19/39 = 452 AR = Dex Softcap
    • 40/13 = 463 AR
    • 19/60 = 464 AR
    • 19/99 = 479 AR = Dex Hardcap
    • 66/13 = 495 AR = Str Hardcap
    • 28/39 = 505 AR = Combined Softcap
    • 40/40 = 525 AR
    • 66/40 = 556 AR
    • 66/99 = 583 AR = Combined Hardcap
  • After softcaps it gets less than 2 AR per level
  • 2 handed Quality weapon
    • Scales well with both stats
    • Gains more from Strength than Dexterity

        gael's WA secret.

1 - you can delay the WA. Just after you slam it, you can actually wait before pressing R1 or R2. (just make sure the sword animation doesn't completely back on the shoulder.)

2 - you can cancel the R2WA with another back step or rolling after the backstep animation.

Why is it that they released every single FotM/OP crap in their last DLC? Can't join a match without finding someone using this thing lately.

The item description kind of reminds me of the Soul Edge from Soul Calibur... After countless battles, the blade became fused with the blood and hatred of its victims, granting the weapon its very own soul. Though it looks like we stop Gael just in time before that part happens, lol.

Meh not to be an a** but i really have never seen the fuss bout the combo yes it hurts but only if they manage to hit you lol, so if someone trying it pressure the hell out of them or get the poise to make em think twice about wanting to trade

It doesn't make any sense how the broken version is better in every single *****ing way than the actual sword

saw some people did the weapon art, followed by a backstep (towards wherever you're facing), then continue with strong attack, any idea what's that combo?

PS, i'm sorry if this is not the place to ask such questions

Does anyone notice that even though this is supposed to be a broken Executioner's Greatsword, it is actually longer than the unbroken Executioner's Greatsword?

Massively overrated weapon, partly because it has a true combo (which is legit but not invincible or easy), but mainly because I see people think the R2 poke justifies it being high tier like a straight sword. Hilarious.

It is weak in every other catagory

this is basically a worse version of the executioners greatsword, because the executioners sword actually has a higher scaling on strenght and doesn't require rare titanites.
of course the weapon art is better, but for real now you are not always going to be able to use it.
the devs tried to make those boss weapons from gael way too "balanced" so nobody would ***** about it being too strong, so they made his weapons rather bad...
i mean for real now it's the last boss (unless you fight midir last) in the *****ing game, at least make his weapons useful...
yes his weapons have an awesome design, but they aren't really good weapons compared to some others.

This sword pairs really well with the dragonhead shield. Use the shield flame to initiate one handed r1s and when two handing just spam l2 to play mind games until they slip up. Great weapon 9.8/10
