Kiln of the First Flame is a location in Dark Souls 3. In order to reach this area, the player must first kill all Lords of Cinder and speak to the Fire Keeper in Firelink Shrine. Interacting with the Firelink bonfire will then warp the player to the first bonfire.

A full walkthrough including all the items, enemies and bosses goes here. You can add links, images. and other details.

Area Requirements

Once you have defeated the 4 Lords of Cinder and placed their ashes on their empty thrones, speak to the Fire Keeper, then activate the Bonfire, which will lead to a cutscene. Afterwards, you will be transported to the first Bonfire at the Kiln of the First Flame, which looks like a dark copy of Firelink Shrine.

Take the path outside and activate the bonfire to proceed to the First Flame. Upon arriving, light the Bonfire to the right, head up the path and enter the clearing to battle the Soul of Cinder. Defeat him to earn Soul of the Lords. Be wary that it is possible to invade at the path, before the fog gate. Activating the Bonfire in front warps to Dreg Keep instead.

Endings

After defeating the Soul of Cinder, you will then have the choice of the following endings:

  • Use the bonfire resulting in the 'To Link the Fire' ending and the unlocking of said achievement.
  • If you have obtained the Eyes of a Firekeeper from the Untended Graves area and have given it to the Fire Keeper you can use a summon sign next to the bonfire to trigger the 'The End of Fire' ending and the unlocking of said achievement. During this scene you have a short window where you can attack the Firekeeper after the cutscene for what is effectively a 4th ending option, but you will not get the achievement.
  • If an optional quest line is completed involving Yuria and Anri to become the Lord of Londor, you can usurp the flame by wrestling the flame from its mantle triggering the 'Usurpation of Fire' ending and the unlocking of said achievement.
Note: Bonfire will still say "Link the First Flame" even though you're about to usurp the flame.

Once the final cutscene plays the credits will roll. When the credits are complete, the game will prompt you as to whether you would like to stay in your current playthrough or proceed into New Game Plus (NG+).

Staying in current Cycle

If you delay proceeding into NG+, you will return to Firelink Shrine where you can tie up any loose ends, explore further or farm any items. Soul Transposition is still possible at the throne of Ludleth of Courland, and you can also loot the Skull Ring here as well as obtain the Farron Ring from Hawkwood. Reloading and speaking to Blacksmith Andre will earn you Hawkwood's Swordgrass.

Took me 5 try’s I can’t begin to understand the feeling you get inside upon finally beating him but there also comes a sadness knowing it’s now over

Ps first play through got anri’s ending

Roasted him as a level 100 pyromancer mostly with chaos bed vestiges. After I ran out of FP, used a dark lothric sword. Wasn't too bad actually as long as you don't panic roll

i gave the S.O.C one free win before killing it with a few L2's from the demon greataxe. o7 to the OG undead, which is you, me and everyone who ever played Dark Souls 1 and relinked the flame.

Needed a few tries for the boss as a pyromancer with 50 INT and 50 WIL. Died often because my playstile works much with bloking attacks.
After summoning the firekeeper my screen also turned black and i was able to move freely.

Playing on steam deck, summoned the fire keeper, screen went darker so I touched it and accidentally killed her.
              No achievement for me

is it just me or is the eclipse in DS3 kind of disappointing? Most of the other games have map events that actually drastically effect the world, the Blood Moon causes many NPCs to fall to the scourge, triggers the Mensis ritual, and reveals Amygdala throughout Yharnam, burning the Erdtree directly influences NPCs and destroys a significant area in the map, turning Anor Londo dark causes the city to be abandoned, hostile NPCs to spawn, and opens a bossfight, and Sekiro takes place over the course of an invasion where one side makes continual gains over the course of the game. Meanwhile the eclipse is just, oh look the skybox is different. It looks really cool but I wish it did more than making an NPC with no dialogue die so you can progress the game.

Why the **** we can't load straight to the boss fight area but have to load to another area before loading to the boss fight area. seriously wtf

Anyone else notice how a large amount of lothric weapons are stuck into the ground? Could this mean the kingdom of lothric attempted to send knights to slay the soc and link the flame before lothric was born?

                    • Anonymous

that horrifying moment when you enter the arena for the first time, see someone sitting by a bonfire, who then gets up immediately and whoops you

I was at kiln of the first flame, went to light the bonfire and the game shot me to the ringed city dlc, which I have already beaten, apart from Gael. How to I trigger the cutscene to fight soul of cinder? All the lord cinders are placed in their thrones

                        • Anonymous

According to Vendrick usurping the fire is the only way to really end this cycle since it breaks the sigil

                          • Anonymous

I ended up giving the firekeeper the eyes and now she refuses to activate the cutscene, only asking me to kill her whenever I talk to her. It's my first playthrough and I don't know what to do next.

I have this question, If I kill the Soul of Cinder but I go back to the shrine without trigger the final, Is Yuria still there?

Did any one notice if you come back without starting a new game there is no flame in the bonfire (lord of hollows ending)

Use Dorhy's Gnawing with caitha's chime to bleed enough times. He might be resistant, but it will work for most if not all of the fight up to ng+7 - Ace

I just realized!!!! If you look around the so-called "Dark Copy of the Firelink Shrine" you'll find that the stairs for "Holy King Lothric (Last Hope of his Line)"s throne are gone, and you can't get up to the throne! O_O

my question is where did Yuria of Londor went after she help with the boss then leave her equipment for us ?

If you don't light the flameless shrine or the koln of the first flame and warp back to fireflink can you get back there or no?

                                        • Anonymous

So I warped here accidentally before I was ready. I ported back to Firelink to make some gear changes and now can’t find my way back? Did I ruin my game ending by warping back before killing the boss?

                                          • Removed the "At the bonfire it is possible to summon the Legendary summon named "Garrath" to help with the fight." line as the "Garrath" is propably just someone promoting himself/herself which shouldn't be done in a wiki page.

                                            • Anonymous

                                              Wut?
"At the bonfire it is possible to summon the Legendary summon named "Garrath" to help with the fight."

Someone please fix that nonsense that he is not immune to poison because he IS immune. I have a luck build had a posioned dagger with 83 poison buildup / hit. Since my damage output was highly reduced thanks to the infusion, i literally stabbed him to death with a million times (that's what i call DPS!) and not even once applied poison debuff on him. There's no way he is not immune to poison..

Don't ask why i killed him with this way, i just wanted to have some fun that's all, but the false descripiton highly offense my ocd. Thanks.

I walked into this boss fight just to test the waters, no npc, trying to learn his attacks and stuff but ended up beating him on my first try.
I was so stoked that I almost immediately went to the Nameless King and I got my ass handed more times than I'd like to admit. Fun Fun Fun

Am I the only one hearing crawling sounds (like a spider or something) following me when I run around in the boss area (i already defeated him some time ago)?

                                                    • Anonymous

So I took on the hollow questline and usurped the fire on my 1st play, now I made a 2nd char and tried to do the same. I don't remember seeing the fire keeper summon sign the last time, so I wanted to ask: will me summoning her just trigger the end of fire ending? Or will I still be able to usurp the fore since I followed Yurias quest?

                                                      • Anonymous

If it is suppose to be the first bonfire, then why is the thrones of Aldrich, Ludeth, Yhorm, Lothric and Abyss Watchers there?Shouldn't Gravelord Nito, The Witch of Izalith, Gwyn Lord of Sunlight , Seath the Scaleless and the Furtive Pygmy (so easily forgotten) have thrones there instead?

                                                        • Anonymous

I 've put all cinder of lords, nothing happening. the firekeeper does not move no ng+ option on the bonfire. its like crushed and evertthing i've done is gone! what i will do ??

                                                          • Anonymous

So two things pop in my head when I look at this area. (SPOILERS... Maybe?) the first is why is lothric on the left side of the shrine? It is on the right side in fire link. This also is not simply using a different door. The second is, what and where did the huge tree come from? It feels like there is a huge chunk missing as to what happened. Also is kiln of the first flame on this game the same place in dark souls 1?

                                                            • Anonymous

I went through the Yuria/Anri quest very carefully (spoilers: talked to Anri, talked to Yuria after five sigils, left the pilgrim alive, killed Horace, stabbed Anri in the face, was told to wrest the flame, etc) but when I go up to the flame it still says "link the first flame." My thought is that it may just say that and interracting will cause the usurper ending, but I don't want to have to deal with that questline again so I thought I'd check.Short version: if you're going for the usurper/lord of hollows ending, should the flame still say "link the first flame" or have I missed/glitched something?

Looks like if you kill the firekeeper and in the betrayal ending you do not get the "The End of Fire" achievement. Unless my game is bugged.

                                                                  • Anonymous
