Pontiff Knight Shield is a Shield in Dark Souls 3.
Shield of the Pontiff's knights, frigid spirits that linger in Irithyll.
This blue-gray shield, shrouded in a thinly cold air, is light and brittle.
Skill: Weapon Skill
Equipping this shield in the left hand allows one to perform the Skill of the right hand weapon.
Notes and Tips:
- Can NOT be Infused.
- Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite.
- Provides an average damage block of 72.4%. It's unfortunate that the sheild's stability is so low, as it provides fantastic, well rounded damage block for its weight. A reliable choice to take into any situation.
- Unfortunately, a large portion of the damage one takes is physical, meaning this shield suffers compared to 100% physical block shields of equal weight.
Location/Where to Find
- Drops from Pontiff Knights wielding this shield in Irithyll of the Boreal Valley.
- Can be bought from Greirat of the Undead Settlement for 3000 souls (after sending him to scavenge at Irithyll of the Boreal Valley)

Somewhat resembles Dark Silver Shield from og demon's souls, the one Garl Vinland used.

It's a great shield even though the damage block isn't 100%, but the stability makes it less desirable. It gains only 6 stability compared most other medium shields that gain 10.

Such a nice looking shield but the damage reduction kills me as a shield user... maybe I'll give it a shot

What is the purpose of this shield? I get that it is relatively light, but there are better weapon skill shields

Greirat is selling this to me after sending him to undead settlement

This is easily the coolest looking Shield in the game. Any way to buff its physical resistance to 100?

Naturally, this is a great match with the Pontiff Knight Curved Sword. The sword requires 10 int, which is enough for magic shield. With magic shield this shield has high 90's damage reduction across the board and greatshield-like stability. The sword can't be buffed, so you don't lose that opportunity using magic shield. And of course, you have access to that sweet sweet weapon art whenever you want it.

i was able to buy this shield from gerrat after sending him out to scavenge only once.

Arguably one of the best shields in the game. I have done many many builds in this game and have found that for builds focusing purely on casting with no STR/DEX (pure miracle & sorcery builds in particular) this is a top tear shield.

I have been preferring weapon skill shields with my red hilted halberd. This one is especially fashionable with the Alva set. I dont mind the twinkling upgrade but is it worth it for slightly more stab?

Like giving ehat ever wep you have s frost dmg buff...and frost bite..atm it has nothing special. Or make it shield bash with ice dmg and frost bite

The low weight is really nice for low Vit builds that hunger for a decent defensed shield. However, the twinkling upgrade cost, inability to infuse, and lack of parry really hurt this shields viability in my eyes.

Its very light and might be useful against pvp magic users but definitely a bad pve shield, the 3 crest shields are much better
Sure, it's physical damage reduction and stability are lacking, but i pair this with a crystal shortsword on my Sorcerer all the time. Amazing how Magic Shield can make it a great thing, all for 8 strength.
Even without Magic Shield, it stops goddamn soul arrow and farron dart and great dart spam from being huge pest, and works well against other lightweight spells all the same. ^_^
