"Do not expect to be able to mid-roll without having a very high amount of Vitality." have you ever seen Smough roll? No, exactly.

"can be donned by humans" suggests that Smough is not human

My personal theory is that Aldrich ate Smough when the Pontiff took over. Since Smough was the last to stay at the cathedral I think this is Fromsoft's way of telling us that he was still there when Sulyvahn arrived and when he found smough there (a powerful being) he decided the only logical thing to do would be to feed him to a great stinking lump of s***t that he found in the basement. Obviously this theory is based on the fact that you can buy Smough's set from the handmaiden after beating Aldrich and of course the set's description.

Most people are joking about his thiccness but all I can think about is Smough's demonic laughter...

Fun Fact: the eyeholes are in the neck. This was also true for Smough himself. Try enjoying this armor now.

With the complete armor plus the hammer, you need 81 VIT to be able to mid roll with no rings and no other shields/weapons equipped. (69.4% load)

This armor set breaks both conventions of heavy armor, those being a weakness to strike and lightning.

Step 1: wear Smough's helm and legs
Step 2: wear Ornie's chest and gauntlets
Step 3: weild DS spear main and Smough's hammer offhand
You should now look like a Smough-ornstein failed abortion lovechild
Step 4: stumble around because you're too heavy to walk
Step 5: spam the "Help Me!" carving to ask people to put you out of your misery

Sadly, the game does not allow you to wear a full Smough's set complete with appropriate weapons and still quick roll, not even with maximum vitality and Havel's ring. I think we can all agree that the sight alone would be enough to send even the Nameless King or Darkeater Midir back down whatever holes they've been living in these past thousand years.

So names like Artorias and likely Gwyn have been forgotten, Artorias only addressed as "Wolf Knight" or "Abysswalker" but Smough's name is still remembered.

with souls duping and other methods, I was able to use the lothric knight greatsword, havels shield, rose of Ariendal, and Yorshkas chime whithout fat rolling or mid rolling. I had to get my vitality to 95 though its at 99 now. I am currently able to drop 14 mil worth of duplicated souls, anyone in need of any add plumpplatipus69 on psn.

Question can you buy Smough's set only once, even if you go to ng+ and re-kill Pontiff. I'm in ng+2 and I just killed Pontiff Sully and the handmaiden didn't have his set. I reloaded the area multiple times and I can't buy the armor from her, if it's a glitch then I regretting not buying the armor the first time.

It is common to take on a new name when being born again in religion. As in Christening or Baptism. Aldrich may have been the name that Smough assumed when becoming a cleric. Note the location where Smough's Great Hammer is found. In the distant manor in Irithyll. There are Silver Knights sworn to protect the Royal Family, as was Smough. There are ancient paintings depicting Gwyn's Age of rule. And there is a kitchen...Every kitchen in Dark Souls thus far has been used to cook men. Even Aldrich's resting place in the Cathedral of the Deep, is the very location where we find Rosaria, who is believed to be Gwynevere.

One of the roughest games ever, way harder than my last character who was wearing no armor or Master's set. The goal was to get high physical damage reduction and health regen so I can run around swinging an ultra greatsword and not have to roll-dodge all the time.Went with Smough's set with an Aristocrat Mask (looks nicer to me than Smough's Double-Chin Helmet), currently have Chaos Astora Great Sword +10, Arbalest +9, Blessed Lothric Knight Shield +7, Lloyd's Shield Ring, Sun Princess Ring, Havel's Ring. Last ring depends on what I think I need. Been trying Deep Protection, Iron Flesh, and Bountiful Light.Struggled hard and made it to Lothric Castle. The problem is: Base physical damage reduction is only ~45% with Lloyd's Shield Ring, so it feels like I could have just put all those VIT points into VIG for raw health and worn medium armor for ~25% dam reduction, and actually end up tankier (more health, adjusted for damage reduction). And I would be able to fastroll. And stamina would recover faster so I could attack and block more. Even Lothric Castle Knights can kill me if I make a mistake. One good hit with a two-handed sword takes half my health, in spite of wearing the heaviest armor in the game.Gonna keep struggling for a while, try and get a few (dozen) more levels. Goals are 40 END, 60 Faith, somewhere around 40 VIG, and enough VIT to be able to fastroll. Optionaly, I might get enough INT for the Ritual Spear and some sorceries, but then I also need ATT... gah... And Eleonora, or some other life stealing weapon, might be more effective, but only if I can get the damage resistance up to a useful point.Heavy armor and physical resistance doesn't seem worth it, especially when you can do an somersault of invincibility and take zero damage with no armor. It is not a good alternative to constant roll-dodging, and it should be. We should get something in exchange for the crap stamina regen.Health regen effects seem super low, hoping Bountiful Sunlight and a blessed weapon help when I get it. Wish it recovered an % amount based on Max HP so it takes the same time to recover health from 0 to 100% regardless of your Max HP.Lloyd's shield ring is a great idea, but it could easily be a lot stronger without being OP, considering one hit of anything cancels the effect.

Can be done with: 61 Vit + (Havel's Ring + 2) + (Ring of Favor + 2) and nothing else.OR83 Vit with nothing elseYou should, however bump it up to 62-63 to account for 2 more ringsCalculations done Via Microsoft Excel 2013
Not even superlative defenses. From was a bit too careful with heavy armor this time around, methinks. Knight starting vit + prisoners + fap3 is enough to wear some combination of millwood, black iron, and Lapp's, which will have comparable (or in some cases better!) absorption and sufficient poise, without having to level VIT 50+ times and then also use another ring slot for Havel's
