Coiled Sword Fragment is a Tool in Dark Souls 3.
Coiled Sword Fragment |
|
Coiled Sword Fragment Usage
- Same effect as Homeward Bone, only it can be used an infinite number of times.
Coiled Sword Fragment Location
- In the copy of Firelink Shrine in the Untended Graves, where the bonfire would be.
Notes
- Can be traded to Pickle Pee for a Titanite Slab. If you don't have a problem to spend 500 souls per Homeward Bone it is a really good trade.
- Does persist into NG+, however does not stack. Upon receiving the second Coiled Sword Fragment, it is sent to your Storage Box.

This is a good trade. I hardly even use my homeward bones too.

Dropped this for pickle pee, and then jump off the edge like a moron, learn from my mistake!
- Anonymous
I didnt even know that existed. I always used homeward bones and alwqys had enough. Best trade of my life

500 souls is nothing later in the game, just give this to the birds and get the free Slab. Much more worth it

I’m new to this game and the souls series in general, and reading some of the replies about how you only get 15 slabs per playthrough so getting rid of this is worth it, I’ve got to ask: you guys have that many weapons you like using enough to fully upgrade? I only have 3 and 1 shield that I even keep in my inventory, one of which being the Crystal Sage Rapier that I only have for farming. I am only at Farron Keep, but I’ve looked up the movesets for pretty much everything and the only other thing I can see myself getting is the Farron Greatsword. That’s only 4 slabs used.
Guess it’s cuz I’m kinda early game still and I don’t like having to restock bones, but it doesn’t really seem worth it to me to get rid of this. You can just get another in ng+ to trade anyway and just keep the first.

I recommend upgrading your main weapons and keeping this and saving one just to use, for NG+ frens.

The idea behind this item is the emerald herald's feather from DS2 and i love it!
This might be the fragment of the broken Coiled Sword in the High Wall of Lothric. The first time you spawn there, there's a bowl with a seemingly dead coiled sword resting beside it, the tip is missing. Given this, and the fact that the Untended graves are nearby is... curious, to say the least.

i killed dancer, oceiros and gundyr to get this before vordt because i was tired of buying homeward bones while farming at highwall, was that a smart thing to do?
- Anonymous
i keep trying to drop it for Pickle pee but nothing happens
- Anonymous
On use to firelink shrine, for some reason it gives me tiny pieces of status effects? I have no clue why
- Anonymous
So I NG+ for the first time, but when I went to the untended graves for the second time I couldn't find it again.... is this normal?
- Anonymous
Also usually I personally only upgrade 3 catalysts, one long sword and one shield to its max, so the extra slabs are pretty much useless.

While the idea of having an infinite homeward bone in your inventory is tempting, I don't really see much use for it other than trading it for a slab. When you pick it up you've come to a point in the game where paying 500 souls for a homewad bone is pocket change anyway. Getting a full stock of them is rather easy.

This item should be kept till your next cycle. Slab is good but you can prevent many unnecessary deaths with this.

I always traded this. On launch it was a one time use (could have been a bug) but since then I always traded it

Great for farming. Equip it to the quick select menu to return to the last bonfire rested at in a second rather than having to run all the way back, something too mundane for the finite Homeward bones. Which is way more useful than just another Titanite Slab. Once you've finally picked your favourite weapon, shield, bow and instrument, all the extra Titanite Slabs are just spares.

It can be traded for a titanite slab in each new game+.However,it is present in the firelink shrine only if the original game progression is followed. Also the old coiled sword fragment is automatically transferred to the storage box after receiving a new one in a new game+.
Never forget that only one can be traded for a titanite slab in one playthrough at a time .

Crow doesnt take my coiled sword fragment in NG+. I traded one fragment for a slab in NG, but in NG+ it doesnt work anymore.

So I reached the firelink shrine in the Untended Graves but the sword fragment was not there. I got the Fire Keepers Eyes and the Blacksmith Hammer but the sword fragment was not there. Is it because I have not fought all the Lords of Cinder yet? Anyone else encounter this issue?

Can I trade this with other players to be able to indirectly get the other player a slab?...since upgrade materials cannot be traded themselves...

this happened on my ng+4 save although this is the first time i've ever tried this.after killing vordt, i immediately killed emma to gain access to the dancer boss fight and unlock several late game areas earlier than usual.after that, i proceeded to clear everything that i can't do early game if I went on the normal route. from the dragonslayer armour, to the consumed king, and also champion gundyr, i've beaten them all early game. although the grand archives is still locked at this point, still no drakeblood set on the area after the consumed king and before the untended graves(although i'll get one later after beating a drakeblood knight in archdragon peak, and still no coiled sword fragment yet on the other firelink shrine after champion gundyr. so with nothing else to do, i then proceeded on beating the game the usual way. after beating yhorm, i was summoned on emma's location for the dancer boss fight but i've already cleared it.at this point of the game, i would then clear the consumed king's garden and untended graves before the rest of lothric castle but i've already cleared both so i went to check on the coiled sword fragment location instead which would usually be available by now but its nowhere to be found.uhhh.. what? i just want my titanite slab!!!

Dropped it at the crow, it disappeared, never showed up on the ground and I wasn't given a slab...

Traded it to the crows got kicked offline for frame rate. Lost the fragment and no slab.

If you've traded the coiled sword in ng for a slab, if you do it again in ng+ you don't get a slab again. It gave me a chunk instead.
- Anonymous
If you already picked up a second Coiled Sword Fragment you can still trade it in to the crow and keep one to use. You just need to manually take the second Coiled Sword Fragment out of your item storage at the bonfire
- Anonymous
You don't need to trade before obtainig another fragment in NG+. 2nd fragment will be stored in bonfire chest.

so does this come back in new game plus if you traded it with crows?

One of the best parts of the worst game is reappearing! The aged feather...

It's basically a titanite slab, homeward bones are super cheap.
- Anonymous
Well, for some reason I'm not able to use it anymore..I don't know what's causing it.
- Anonymous
while it's impossible to enter the tower by a glitch involving jumping off the tree besides the roof you can reach those rafters and go through the same illusory wall to get a covetous silver serpent ring
- Anonymous
Would the sword fragment stay with you when you start a new game?
- Anonymous
At least this makes more sense than an aged feather did in number 2.
would never give in to the crow in NG. inefficient, yes, but using it is so much more aesthetic than regular homeward bones.
