Darkmoon Longbow is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

Longbow of Darkmoon Gwyndolin, who was gradually devoured by Aldrich. This golden bow is imbued with powerful magic and is most impressive with Moonlight Arrows.

Skill: Darkmoon Arrow

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Buffed or Infused.
  • Reinforced with Titanite Scales.
  • Often considered by many to be the worst bow in the game. It's magic damage, even when fully upgraded, is too low to be considered useful, it's arguably worsened by the split damage, and the only way to get any real damage is with the Moonlight Arrows.
  • Damage may vary depending on ammunition(arrows).

    • This is a really good weapon, have 99 dex,99 int,99 fth and forcebuff this with darkmoon blade and yorshka's chime and magic clutch ring and lloyd ring for "not so trash" amount of damage

fun fact, while everyone say it’s garbage... do i really need to tell you that the only viable bows are the dragon rider bow and greatbows in general?

this is the only elemental bow in the game... most people build for physical defence/fire/lightning/dark.... only a handful build up magic defence. which makes it good for PvP

sure it’s not great in damage...

unless you like sniping with crown of dusk + morion blade + red tear stone + flyn’s ring for good damage

Why waste your precious FP to fire a Great Soul Arrow when you can shoot one for the cost of 500 souls instead? :P

          • Anonymous

It looks beautiful and I love using it in pvp on my SL90 Elf build in invasions. Is it the best bow? Nah. Is it cool? Yes.

Gwyndolins bow in Ds 1 was a short bow, now it has become a long bow... I always felt like Aldritch is one of the most lorewise cool bosses, but the lack of Gwyndolin mask in this game makes me sad. its one of my fav headpieces, and they changed the bow to a different type...

              • Anonymous

sadness ahead... this bow was at least somewhat good in ds1 for bow only... now it´s just painfully sad to look at...

I figured all the badmouthing had to be exaggerated, it couldn't actually be that bad. It's that bad. 60 int, +10, moonlight arrows, it's still positively pathetic. Such a shame. It looks gorgeous and that's where the good things to say about it stop.

                  • Anonymous

If you have high enough INT to use this effectively, you're probably better off just using sorcery as your ranged option.

                    • Anonymous

It's a shame that this sucks so bad. It has potential for some serious fashion with the right armor setup, but alas, my darkmoon bowman build will forever be subpar. This bow was actually good in 1 though.

                      • Anonymous

that's a bow dedicated to sorceres / not even battlemages. Only moonlight arrows are meant to be used with it, and these arrows are supposed to be fired thought the WA in order to get high enough damage, so a long enough bar of FP is required. it's not a bad bow by any means, it's just a dedicated one

                        • Anonymous

I would have liked it if the weapon art made the arrow glow purple. Either that or if the weapon art did a smaller version of either the phase 1 or 2 arrow rain. The phase one version could be good to prevent your opponent rushing you, while the phase two could be way to do light damage with a tracking shot while you set up something stronger. I think that would have been cool.

people here think this is primarily a pvp game. sorry, but aldritchs soul isn't exactly precious, if you wanna make a bow to pull out on magic weak mobs, great, especially ng+, where you could already have lifehunt scythe and the souls are ass.

                            • Anonymous

People would be surprised how useful this "bad bow" is. Yes, its damage, WA and arrow cost are pretty bad, but it certainly surprises people when you use it in any situation. It's like shouting "Suprender!" before hitting a person in the face... it's funny.
People whining and cringing over everything.
Honestly, those who say a weapon is bad just don't know how to use it creatively.... or maybe there is a reason, but even a bad weapon can be a fun weapon when used in creative ways.
Go fight PvP with the Harpe or the regular spear and then tell me how bad they all are.

Is this weapon viable for any builds? No.
Is this weapon just as good as any other bow. Surprisingly 50-50.
Is this weapon aesthetically fashion souls worth? Yes.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to roflstomp with my aquamarine dagger. :]

WTF with all the comments that said this bow sux? So they are saying with INT build with low STR/DEX people should use others bows that require STR/DEX for damage? WTF? If you have a high INT with low STR/DEX, this bow is the one to be used. You can't dealt much damage with other bows because you don't have much STR/DEX.

Say whatever ypu want about this bow, but dragonrider's bow only needs 15% of the amount of arrows to take down though enemies. Save your titanite scales.

Ah yes, the bow that looks sick and crushed all my hopes and dreams of being a one person archer army like the elves in helms deep from The Lord of the Rings.

If you have no idea what I'm Tolkien about, think about Aldrich's Arrow storm.

The weapon art says it goes through shields, has anyone tested if it goes through armor to a degree, if so the weapon might be trash because we are using it wrong

                                      • This is the single most disappointing weapon in the game. They had a chance to give us an interesting boss weapon and instead they gave us this thing. Now let me explain to you why this weapon is so bad ( I don't care if you actually managed to make it useful, it's still the worst bow in the game and they wasted a boss soul slot on it, objectively worse than the Longbow you find at High Wall )

Pros: Almost nothing, the only actual bonus of this Bow is that it can be used on Int/Dex builds but if you're doing that you should just be casting spells. You might be able to make use of it clearing trash mobs, therefore saving attunement, but that's all this thing gets.

Cons: Low scaling, Split damage, Bow's aren't exactly high tier in the first place in both PvE and PvP, can't be infused because it's a bow (and a boss weapon) and Fromsoft hates you, and you need to buy expensive arrows in order to get any noticeable damage from it. On top of all of this you will STILL do less damage than a normal bow. It's also heavier than the normal Longbow.

So yeah, it's not literally useless because you can use it so save FP on the one build it works for, but for a boss weapon this thing is embarrassing.

it does what it was intended for perfectly - pooling enemy from range, perfect stats and roleplay wise for a sorcerer

                                          • Anonymous

Thing's actually not so bad. Is it the worst bow in the game? Objectively, yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. I stuck this thing on my Aquamarine Dagger/Friede's Great Scythe build (40/50 Dex/Int, I like my spells) and the thing actually performs pretty damn well. Sure, it's a huge build investment, but it hits pretty hard with it. I might end up doing a dedicated build for this Bow eventually, probably dropping some Dex and running 60 Int instead.
It's definitely more of a PvE weapon, but there's not really anything wrong with that, IMO.

As per usual, make an interesting concept and nerfe it so is not viable even on a joke build. Dark Souls 3 patented gema design.

                                              • Anonymous

Would have been more interesting if its WA held the bow out and let you cast the sorcery you've attuned, that would've been really cool and would make it more viable as it would mess up timeings

                                                • Anonymous

People saying they get 500 AR just stop bullcrap. I tested this for my magic bow biuld and with all magic boosting items equiped and moonlight arrows i had 600AR but in PVP it doesn't even deal 200 damage to players. Only with headshots i get a 220 damage on them and even with leo ring it wont make a diffrence cause ITS MAGIC. I wished magic damage was more useful in this game. Changed back to dex for my bow build and it definetly outdamages darkmoon longbow.

                                                    • Anonymous

I love this bow for my sorcerer. I've killed someone from a gank in 2 shots (including 1 head shot with weapon art). Completely underrated, if you are pure int (70int), you can get with moonlight arrows about 100 physical damage, and more than 300 magic damage with the magic clutch ring/crown of dusk, and with the weapon art, which add 30% of magic damage to these arrows… More than 400! Its fits almost better than the sorceries for a pure int build.

                                                      • Anonymous

very nice. just have blacksmiths hammer and handmaids dagger for close up fights. Quick perseverance weapon art swap to Dark Moon arrow weapon art!

                                                        • At 16/40 it gets 239 ar(109phys/130mag). From16 to 40 dex you only gain 5ar. 40 to 60 int gains 13ar. Tested out the damage a bit against hollow soldiers at highwall. W/magic clutch ring i did 300dmg/396 with WA for comparison soul arrow(w/177spellbuff plus all boosting items) did 383dmg. Not the best but definitely useful when trying to conserve fp.

I know people hate this bow, but I find it rather valuable on my sorcerer, who already had 18 dex anyway because of using a crystal lothric knight sword as her main non-staff weapon. Along with moonlight arrows, it's a half-decent way to punish bad rolling while preserving FP for more powerful spells.

                                                            • Anonymous

This is sad , the bow looks great and from a lore point of view this bow could have been something powerful. Heck at least it could have some thing like "shot into the air to rain tons of arrows to your enemy. Real shame.

It's really easy to hit 500+ AR on an int build with this. All you need to do is equip another weapon instead.

I am a socerer build with extremely low vgr and I needed to stop people from rushing me in arena I tried moonlight greatsword etc but people constantly out damaged me so I upgraded this longbow just to see, this thing is amazing for the stagger sure the time to draw the bow is kinda long but it's usually fast enough to draw and shoot someone running at you with a melee weapon but that isn't the best thing - this thing will always stagger people so if you draw, wait for someone to run at you then fire at point blank they will be staggered and you can roll away and to top it off my darkmoon longbow with moonlight arrows deals 368 a hit, not bad to punish people rushing you and you can rinse and repeat this stategy until they die unless they stop rushing you. 8/10 lol

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

It's fast and can attack out of rolls and backsteps and all, I never realized just how capable it was.Well, I was sitting in the shower thinking about it when I had an epiphany; if the darkmoon longbow worked similarly, one could use it to make just the absolute most badass mage/archer hybrid that would probably be pretty much the coolest thing ever. Ever. Well, it doesn't work that way. You just stand there slowly firing arrows, with no mobility whatsoever. ***** it.

                                                                          • Anonymous

If you use the bow with Dark Arrows everything is fine, but if you use the Weapon Art with Dark Arrows you will get an interesting result. You arrow will be send either in a weird arc (going super high, send to the left/right). And when targeting an enemy it will mostly do a curve right in f

                                                                            • Anonymous

So it says it adds magic damage, so if you add moonlight arrows, it will do the magical damage from the arrow+the arrow buff from the weapon art correct?

                                                                              • Anonymous

It really is almost a pity that this bow didn't wind up scaling with faith instead of int (albeit still having an int requirement and doing magic damage). It would have made it even more niche than it already is, but it would have allowed for some really nice unity of theme if everything associated with the Darkmoons (Bow, Ritual spear, and miracle) were faith scaling magic damage. As it is, still has plenty of uses, but harder to work into a build alongside the other darkmoon stuff

                                                                                • I would`ve liked the bow to at least have an indication that it`s ability was activated like a purple glow, but it`s basically just a more expensive longbow with a unique look to it, if your doing a Gwyndolin cosplay (which I don`t even think is possible) or your just plain becoming a Darkmoon Blade then it could have some use, but... Onislayer or Dragonslayer Greatbows are much better.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

This Skill has a different name but is practical the same as Puncture not even the animation got changed that's lazy as *****, fromsoft!

                                                                                    • Anonymous

Testet this with unupgraded Darkmoon Longbow and Dragonrider bow with Wooden Arrow vs. Moonlight Arrow. Tested on Firekeeper and Hollows in Cemetary of Ash. Tested for normal shot and Weapon Art. STR, DEX and INT at 99 for the test.Dragonrider with Wooden did the most damage. > Darkmoon with Moonlight did a tiny bit less Damage. > Dragonrider with Moonlight did a little less Damage than that. > Darkmoon with Wooden does CONSIDERABLY less damage than anything mentioned before. (About half the damage of Dragonrider with moonlight)Nice that the description actually reflects the stats this time. This also seems to mean, that normal bows scale with the physical damage of arrows since Dragonrider did more damage with Wooden, than with Moonlight despite moonlight arrows having a higher AR

                                                                                      • Anonymous

been using DR+5 at 40/40 STR/DEX. would a 60/40 INT/DEX out damage the Dragon rider? because at present this bow is tossed on the trash heap of inter-mixed stat weapons along with any STR/INT or DEX/INT weapons.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

Starts of well , when used with darkmoon arrow but scales poorly. With high 80 int investment and using darkmoon arrow, Normal hits 199 and special hits 260 charged on dark wraiths ng+2. The bow is not worth using compared to even weaker spells, since using a bow leaves you vunerable.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

I'm probably missing something obvious, but how do you use the weapon skill of this bow? Holding R2 to fire just makes my character shoot an arrow strongly, likes with any other bow. I do have the FP bar full when I attempt this. Or is that the skill itself? I thought it'd have an special animation or something, considering the description.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

Man I love this bow for some reason. Maybe cause I'm a long time darkmoon blade xD but no I agree the lack of an animation is pretty sad.. But the thing with projectile speed will probably get changed a bit, cause it's kinda broken as is so no worries there :)

                                                                                              • The definitely dropped the ball on its weapon art. It could have been one of the coolest attacks in the game, but its just...the basic piercing arrow attack. Not even much in way of flashing it up.Whatever the case though it's a solid bow nontheless.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

I don't know if it's just this bow or if it's all bows, but I can curve my arrows mid-flight if I aim at where I want the arrow to hit and then move the crosshair as I'm pulling the string to fire.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                                        • Anonymous
