Soldering Iron is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.
Branding iron used by the jailers prowling Irithyll Dungeon.
Press its searing tip against foes to inflict fire damage, and temporarily block Estus healing.
Skill: Charge
Hold iron at waist and charge at foe. Use strong attack while charging to extend the length of the charge.
Notes and Tips:
- Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
- Reinforced with Titanite.
- On hit, decreases human opponents' Estus healing back to its base level.
- The description states that the weapon blocks Estus healing, however, this is false. It will only decrease the Estus' healing level by 20%
- The effect applied by the weapon lasts 15 seconds. This does not seem to be affected by the Lingering Dragoncrest Ring.
Location/Where to Find
- Drops from Jailors in Irithyll Dungeon.

I don't think From knows what soldering is... or what a plow is...

It'd be better if it wasn't just a nerfed version of the one the jailers use

I watched a YouTube video on all the bosses fought in New Game +7 with this weapon; holy **** on a Goddamn shingle, is it bad! I like weapons that deal a lot of damage, which is why bad weapons like this irk me to such a degree. It’s a wonder why the Soldering Iron is one of the least-used weapons in the series.

This is my favorite anti-troll weapon. Have you met those tryhards that dry finger Pontiff then fight multiple invaders solo to show off their l33t skillz? And by skill i mean glitching like is there patch incoming? Of course you met them. Legitimate fight is pointles akin to feeding the troll - if you treat them seriously, you already lost. That's why I started to you this weapon. You do miniscule damage, but it doesn't matter, let your co-invaders do all the work. Those hosts are so reliant at estus cancelling that thay run out of heals very quickly. Your job is to poke from time to time, throw Lloyd talisman and avoid getting hit. They want to be annoyying little *****, so I will be even more annoying. And if you die - joke on them, you're barely a threat, killing a guy with Soldering Iron isn't something to brag about. In these situations I like to think of myself as a irritating pest that isn't satisfying to kill.
But actually winning with this weapon - now, that feels nice!

Try this at SL 25 with Repeating Crossbow, Vilhelm's Armor and Black Hand Hat. Time for yeehaw

It would have been funny if the backstab or riposte animation looked like when the jailers pin you to the ground with it. or if it had a different WA

Step 1. Use this on twinks in undead settlement and wait for them to waste all estus flasks
Step 2. Wait for them to go refil with bow glitch
Step 3. Kick them with blue sentinel for glitching.
Problem? :tf:

Only dumb fat Casuls would use such a trash weapon!
PKCS is so much better!
Real Pros and skilled players only ever use PKCS, the best weapon gaming history!!

They forgot the hidden attribute of this weapon, it's effective for recieving salt when killing someone with this joke of a weapon.
- Anonymous
Could this have potential at SL 10 with Fire Clutch Ring? Those filthy twinks would have their estus back to +0 and maybe the awful damage wouldn't be noticed when everyone has such low defenses.
As my FUGS passed through a jailer while doing no damage before she branded me and I died, I noticed that the burning part is in the shape of a piece sign. I never hated life more.
- Anonymous
Really wish this thing could be infused. Kind of a gimmicky weapon but the Estus block particle effect is fun to place on enemies.
- Anonymous
Two-handing this thing as a primary weapon is telling the opponent, "I'm not going to win, but I will make your path to victory as long and arduous as possible"
- Anonymous
Yes, This is the result of getting owned too hard by ultra skilled pkcs players. You turned from a trash casul into a complete braindead zombie that would pick up a piece of shhit to fight pro pkcs users. As the most skillful and absolutely unstoppable pkcs user out there, I feel sorry for all the scrubs that have gone hollow in my poop and point down. But then, you can't blame me here as it was your own fault for being a poor skilled scrub who used garbage weapon against pro pkcs player like me. Moral of the story: Just pick up a pkcs and joint the pro rank.
- Anonymous
Such an interesting concept, but such bad execution. Sounds like fromsoft
- Anonymous
And here we are in the land of the lost soul where garbage casuls got owned too hard and too many times by pro pkcs players. As a result, the scrubs gone hollow and pick up this...seriously, wtf is this ****? But yeah, these casuls are completely unhinged, just read the comment section and see for yourself.

LOL, kinky toy for geeyy ass trash casuls to brand each other arses.

This weapon is simply godlike. With this weapon fully upgraded and on an optimised build for the weapon it does a WHOLE 90 dmg per r1.
That’s almost as good as the broken straight sword

Almost as brutally strong as the broken sword. The damage is broken and the moveset is insane. What were you thinking fromsoft...
- Anonymous
Is the fire damage flat rate? any way to increase it other than equipping the fire clutch ring?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
it should be noted that the weapon art doesn't "brand" the opponent with the debuff I've tested it in multiple undead matches but no dice
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This isn't a good primary weapon, and it's not a great 1v1 weapon either, but it's DELIGHTFUL for when you're invading. Your top danger as an invader is being outresourced by the host and their phantoms, and this mitigates that. Sure, they can just wait out the debuff, but if you're in a 1v3, forcing one or more players to choose between burning through their estus, sitting out of range for a few seconds, or getting dangerously (to themselves) aggressive is REALLY helpful. The brand seems to apply if the player takes any damage, too, and since it deals fire damage it's very unlikely they'll be able to prevent the brand by blocking. If you get an enemy down on their health some (<50% or so) but can't close the deal, you can tag them with this to force them to think about their next move. The weapon art is super-useful for this, too - Charge is VERY good for roll-catching a fleeing player, and the minimal damage isn't really an issue for this purpose. And if you wanna be a GIANT jerk, use this as a Spear of the Church, like I'm doing.
- Anonymous
You can take it and put it in the main bonfire at firelink shrine and it makes it catch a small fire for half a second. I doubt this helps anyone but i wanted to contribute something to this p.o.s. weapon
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
So, having people blow through all their estus charges for pathetic results seems nice on paper, but it can't even outdamage a base level estus flask. You can incorporate this into a sidearm but I personally think it should either have increased damage or just straight up block estus like a Lloyd's Talisman.
The name is so dumb, haha. It's not a soldering iron (which is used for small electronics) it's a branding iron!

- Anonymous
anyone tried this after the last patch whether in PvP? how much does it increase the equip load?.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Over one thousand hours In dark souls 3, just now noticed It's called soldering Iron, not smoldering Iron. . .
- Anonymous
So this thing does not work as of writing this comment. The wiki says it hinders estus healing, I hit my invader friend and we noticed next to no change. The wiki says it increases the opponent's equip load, I sat at 69.6% and got hit multiple times and it did not affect it at all. The status screen didn't show any change and I wasn't fat rolling. I don't now what this does but I think From must have broken it with an update, and since so few people use it it's gone unnoticed.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This thing could have been kind of useful in invasions if it had the rapier moveset, but no, they had to make it a spear... short as hell and doesn't even do thrust damage.
- Anonymous
This thing is great for tagging twinks with the dragonslayers axe in high wall. They have no idea why their Estus recovery suddenly sucks again, and they panic.
- Anonymous
Would b great if the WA was just simply edited 2 a better 1, e.g the same thing that the jailers do where they just annihilate u in 1 hit, would make it brilliant. alternative name ‘compress’
So I've done some test with the weapon, it doesn't increase the opponent's equip load but it slow them down, it's perfect to prevent people from fleeing or chasing you.
- Anonymous
I just realized that this is the truly most infuriating weapon in the game at 60+. It resets estus recovery down to base level and does innate fire damage. Frostbite someone, peg them with this to reset the frost procs, they backup and need to estus much more then usual leaving them open to more frostbite. rinse and repeat. Honestly not an affective way to pvp but it would sure as hell cause frustration beyond comprehension to chuggers
- Anonymous
This thing's got an interesting niche at extremely low levels.
On my SL 10 +1 invader, I ran into a 4v1 or 2 gank squad that had a full Jailer cosplay with one of these. The estus debuff made them almost impossible to beat, I simply couldn't stick it out for the long haul with such weak sips.
Also, it seems like at some point it was stealth buffed, because I recall the debuff wasting way more than 15 seconds.
- Anonymous
Really wish they'd buff this in some way. It's clearly meant as a PvP weapon, but why bother with it when you can stunlock a dude with an UGS and just win? The PvP in DS3 is so bland cuz there's a viable UGS for any build, so everyone uses one. It's like From takes one step forward and two steps back, in regards to PvP, with each game.
- Anonymous
Horrible damage, but against the right people its really useful. People (like me) that play at 69% equip load will take a heavy burden against this weapon
Plus, it looks super culty
- Anonymous
Too bad it does not have the touch of dead the jailers have...
- Anonymous
hello fellow souls veterans are you tired of gankers of 7 the get a Soldiering iron you will never feel so great against dual greatsword spammer and friede scythe R1 spammers
- Anonymous
When all is lost and you don't give a*****, use this weapon;)
- Anonymous
this weapon reduces a foes estus flask level to 1 not nullifies it.. .along with increasing their weight to lsow them down... its a technical weapon like the whips designed to support your main hand equips.
- Anonymous
Page needs to be edited: cinfirmed, that it DOES NOT increase equip load at all!
- Anonymous
Lol, use this at people that use Havel's set. They can't move at allP.S "If they use light weapons, you probably can't make them over 100% equip load"
- Anonymous
That way I can make my "Ganker Spanker" build slightly viable. Also, if they could make the light for a left handed whip the whip light attack, and enable parrying with the heavy, my Character PapaSpanks, can finally live up to his name.Oh, and yes. I do use the exile mask.
- Anonymous
It's basically a troll weapon. Only good to use when you're jumping those annoying, overpowered tank/strength build, hornet ring wearing NOOB invaders(god I hate those builds, needs some kind of downside). With high equip loads that move pretty fast. Weapon is useless against enemies of the game.
- Anonymous
I can't exactly say for certain, but I think the debuff also affects a player's equip load. I kept using the weapon to keep tabs on an enemy phantom and noticed they started fat rolling when I hit them with the branding iron.
It's a pretty *****ty weapon. Apparently Jailers have very high dex and str for hitting so hard with this garbage.
- Anonymous
The Estus cancelling effect I have to agree is just way too short. It can't be too long though either because then everyone will be using this thing, but it definitely needs to be a bit longer than it is now it just doesn't punish estus spamming at all.I think perhaps though, that said, that a good use for it is as a surprise off hand weapon to poke at someone right as they're backing away to flask. You gotta catch them right when they're doing it, and hopefully connect the hit. Could be a nice instant counter when used that way, so you can immediately follow up with an attack from your main weapon. But it has to be quick because as is the Estus sealing is just way too brief.
- Anonymous
The concept of the weapon is cool but is it a viable weapon?
- Anonymous
I've tried the smoldering iron in pvp but it doesn't seem to stop estus healing. The opponent gets the flmae like effect on him after being hit but still a lot of guys I've fought have healed nearly immediately after being hit. Anyone got some more info about this?
- Anonymous
Can we get video evidence for the Estus Negation please, and some data on how long the effect lasts, if it even occurs.
- Anonymous
*****ers keep setting up ganksquads with this and lorians greatsword at level 1-20 in the FIRST area and they dont get scaled down. or there scaled down and normally do over 1000 damage to players with over 40% fire absorb.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I invaded for hours today trying this thing out. I poked people and they rolled once and chugged just fine.
- Anonymous
Honestly it seems more like it weakens estus healing by half more than it denies any estus use. At least from when I slipped in jabs with it in duels it seemed to do that.
- Anonymous
It blocks estus use for less than 5 seconds. Useless, unless you're willing to have a weapon dedicated to stabbing chuggers RIGHT as they try to chug.
I would gladly trade the estus block effect for balancing this badass thing out of the pit of hell where it currently resides. Dat 25 durability...
only real hustlas get the beauty of a soldering iron
