Lucerne is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.



A polearm with a sharp, hard pronged head that inflicts thrust attacks.

The Lucerne is wielded overhand like a hammer, or can be swung from the side to break through shields.

Skill: Spin Sweep
Sweep foes in a large spinning motion, and utilize momentum to transition into an overhanded strong attack smash.



Notes and Tips:

  • Can be Infused and Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • Because every attack in this weapon's moveset does thrust damage, wearing the Leo Ring increases the weapon's damage potential considerably. 
  • A true combo for this weapon (while two-handing) is R1+L2+R1, and because of its thrust damage moveset, trading attacks with enough poise puts this combo's damage output through the roof for halberds.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X". 
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.

Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit

            One of the most unique and versatile weapons in the game. It's the only weapon that has hyper armor, crowd control moves, a three-hit true combo, and full Leo Ring compatibility all at once. It's one of the lightest halberds, and looks swag af. To top it all off, it's availble before you even fight Vordt.

              Why you all are confusing this for a hammer when bashing enemies isn't what the lucerne was built for? It has sharp tips in each metal part, intended to break through chainmail and such. so the only way it could smash something is with the wooden pole, and that would eventually break the weapon. If you want a hammer then grab one intended to smash enemies, but stop shaming andre and treat the halberds as what they are.

                Really under-rated weapon. Moveset is one of the few Halberds that has Hyper Armor on every 2H attack, excellent crowd control, reasonable weight and Dex requirements, solid damage on almost any build.

                  I think there's something very important that this article misses!

                  During my playthrough i noticed that same attacks would deal different amount of damage to the enemies, or even weirder - sometimes my R2 attack would deal less damage than my R1 attack.
                  Of course the first logical thing to assume is its because of the thrust counter attack bonus. But the damage difference was too big, and enemies were not doing anything, i was just wailing on them.

                  During my playthrough i was nervous about reaching Carthus, because skeletons are highly resistant to thrust damage and i hate them.
                  HOWEVER! When i actually reached the catacombs i found something very interesting.
                  The same R1 attack of a +4 RAW Lucerne would occasionally deal either 102 or 178 damage on the same enemy. This is too much difference for just the thrust bonus.

                  After some testing i realized that i would get the 102 damage when i would hit a skeleton with very end of lucerne and 178 when i would hit them point blank.
                  Lucerne doesn't reliably deals JUST thrust damage. It appears that when hitting enemies at point blank range you actually hit them with the hilt, dealing strike damage instead (which skeletons are very weak to). Although it could be Stanbdart as well, but i have my doubts.

                  HOWEVER! This rule only applies to R1 attacks. No matter how much i played around with range with R2 and weapon art i couldn't make them to cause the same damage discrepancy. In fact, they seem to reliably deal thrust damage only.

                    I hate that the dev team looked at a giant HAMMER on a pole and said "Nah lmao lets make it only use the tiny pointed side for literally every attack, the hammer is just there for decoration".

                    It CORRECTLY used the hammer side in Demon's Souls, and then some dude on their team got it into their head it was wrong and has made it use exclusively the tiny pointed side ever since. The series already has a war pick weapon that is basically the exact same thing. WHY did they keep getting a PoleHAMMER wrong?

                            Lucerne 101 - Use the refined version of this weapon with high STR and DEX. This weapon should be two handed almost exclusively. When using this weapon have the Leo Ring equipped. Never use this weapon without the Leo Ring. This weapon has a true combo (a series of hits that are inescapable in PVP every time if done correctly... and without lag): R1, weapon art, R1. The high AR of the refined version along with the counter damage enhanced by the Leo Ring and the 3-hit true combo results in this rather unassuming-looking weapon dishing out massive damage, possibly catching your opponent off guard. As the Lucerne is an under-rated weapon not often seen in PVP. Trying to hit enemies while free-aiming with this weapon is extremely difficult, so it's best to attack while locked-on. To take full advantage of this weapon's highly impressive countering potential, you should wear heavy armor to win trades (when you and your opponent exchange blows). A high defense will obviously mitigate damage you receive during trades and high poise will ensure you can execute the true combo (aim for 30 or more poise). Since this weapon has rather precise hit boxes and has a somewhat slow swing speed, it can be difficult to finish off defensive opponents, especially since they are likely to be extra cautious after losing a trade. Therefore, you should have a weapon in your off-hand that can shave off the last bit of their HP quickly and can hit an opponent who is just repetitively rolling away. Irithyll Straight Sword is a good option, since you'll have high STR and DEX.

                              I prefer the pokey halberds, and they have more damage and range anyway, but outside of counters this does a little better and still has some okay counters, atleast on par with estoc counters. not bad, but suffers from low damage compared to most if not all other halberds. Throw a ele buff on it (dmb, LB, etc) and your combo should net 1k+ pretty easily, and your counters will do the same while buffed. Not worth blessed weapon sadly due to low innate damage.

                                This weapon is my favorite, bar none. Pair it with a Leo ring for disgusting damage. It looks so unassuming so people constantly underestimate its power. I once did a 700+ damage counter hit R1 against a back stepping mage (trying to meme me with CSM). I love it <3

                                  a niche weapon that's damage is far overshadowed by all other halberd type weapons, but since its entire moveset is thrust you will occasionally just take half+ of somebodies hp if they try to trade with you which is nice. sadly its a dex weapon, so there isnt much room for it in trading builds. It feels like it has less hyper armor then other swashy halberds but they are supposed to have the same.

                                    does anyone have a spare one? i'm using this on my pyro and I woul like to have a second one which I can infuse with dark before I get to new game. I'd put my red sign down where the lucerne can be looted, password as soon as someone agrees. I would offer boss souls and normal souls.

                                      Keep in mind that this is a DEX weapon. It works best if you infuse it with sharp, and go to 15/40 or 15/70 if you have the stats. It's slightly lower than average damage is compensated for by it's thrust damage type, great WA, and amazing fashion with Alva's chestpiece.

                                        I have a new found love for this weapon. Now im into invasions alot more than duels, and this thing really under performs in fights were im fighting multiple people, so its usually my go to if on the off chance i invade a solo host. Or, rarer yet, if the host stands and fights rather than flee to resummon after i kill his phantoms, I will definitely switch to lucy. It's so damn good in 1v1s. It can outspace 95% of weapons with ease, and since your dealing all trust damage, you can throw on the leo ring for big counter damage. R1+R2+R1 is a true combo, which deals very nice damage. In conclusion, an incredible weapon for 1v1s that im surprised you don't see being used more often in fight clubs and duels, but rather terrible for dealing with multiple people.

                                          I've won a fair amount of pvp matches with this weapon that I didn't deserve to win just because many players often seem to underestimate it. The weapon art into the R2 combo can deal massive damage even when it's not buffed. In cases that we're both around half hp it can end a fight simply like that. I m not experienced with halberds and spears in this game. I ve only used lucerne and the javelin for its fun WA but I love this weapon and the fact that you can find it in the first area.

                                            By the way, despite dealing thrust damage, it can easily knock down the annoying grave wardens and skeletons in catacombs of carthus and allow for easy effortless kills. Just care not to fight them in tight spots and narrow corridors cause it will bounce off the walls. The only enemies that gave me trouble using this weapon so far are the pus of man but that's to be expected since they are mostly weak to fire. Also, it is a little bit tricky when trying to hit a lizard that's standing next to a wall or fast unpredictable enemies like wolves and dogs.

                                              At 35 str/40 dex the refined does a little less damage than the sharp.. so probably better to be used by pure dex or pure str builds cause of the A scaling..?? But anyway it doesn't make that much difference in damage. It's good anyway because of other things like range, moveset and the fact that you can trade with leo ring cause of the thrust damage.

                                                You can stun lock several enemies in the game by spamming the first 2HR1. Move a little between each hit to reset the combo.

                                                  For some reason, this weapon is wielded backwards in this game. The real life counterpart of the lucerne was wielded as a hammer, with the pronged part used for downward stabs and for bringing knights down from their horses.

                                                    Easily one of the best weapons in the game. It's only real flaw is it's relatively slow speed; It's found early, is a generic weapon and thus uses titanite, can use the leo ring, has the overhead halberd moveset, spin sweep, great range, and great damage. It won't outdamage an ultra, but it's extremely practical for both PvE and PvP.

                                                        Any player worth their PVP salt should know it's about timing your attacks. Lucerne is slow, but all high damaging weapons, skills and spells are. Just as fast weapons and spells deal low damage but hit quick. The Lucerne is a beast because all its attacks are thrust which allows it to benefit from the Leo Ring, has the range of Ultra Greatswords, hyperarmor when 2-handed, pierces shields that have 100% phys block and every 1st hit whether 1 or 2-handed stunlocks like a boss, guaranteeing a followup hit. The WA is an ace in the sleeve that can deal up to 800 damage if you get all hits in. All that for 7.5 weight, it's one of the best weapons in the game.

                                                          I like the lucerne but the moveset really messes with me. It's really slow and the range is really lacklustre in PVE. Any tips to make this weapon the unstoppable boss it was in the first game? Also if you look at your hand/arm when doing the first attack you'll get a couple yucks about how you're totally breaking your wrist. Still a solid 7/10 weapon though

                                                          • haven't tested it much, but when I was using the one handed R2 attacks, they seemed to still do damage when hitting a 100% phys resist shield even though it wasn't infused/buffed with any resins. Needs testing.

                                                              for real tho. this is hands down my favourite weapon in the game. it's also my favourite weapon to counter a gundyr's halberd. can be buffed, and benefits from leo ring, tho it's not completely necessary. pairs very well with the standard halberd. the spin2win is of course the lucerne's bread and butter. what's funny about my using it tho, when i first found it, i was like 'yeah the lucerne' and just immedietly upgraded it and started using it for the rest of the game, but i didn't discover it's true power (the weapon art) for quite awhile. afaik there are 4 weapons that have this spin sweep attack, (Lucerne, BKG, Spiked Mace, Partizan) and IMO the Lucerne does it best.

                                                                I was owned by this weapon (or at least think it was this weapon judging by the model). The thing had the biggest hit box I've seen. Dude swung it, completely whiffing from like a fully body width away and it still managed to hit and stun. It was like a friggin' tree trunk with a halberd weapon model...

                                                                  All of its attacks are thrust damage even though they don't appear to look like thrust attacks. This is probably better than the Black Knight Glaive as it has a similar move-set (including the 3 hit combo). But Lucerne is buffable and gains a bonus from the Leo ring where as the BKG does not.

                                                                    the exact same moveset like black knight glaive paired with low stat requirements and open options to infuse or buff makes this weapon way better and it's so undererstimated. I deal 1,4k damage with r1-l2-r2 combo with a faith-int build with it, it's possibly the best weapon in the entire game for pvp as pyromancer lol

                                                                      Does anyone know how to thrust this ting like a spear? I was in the graveyard with the maggot puking zombies swinging away and somehow I started jabbing at one of the ones curled up on the ground with the spearhead but I can't seem to repeat this. Any ideas?

                                                                        Sigh you still don't swing this thing properly! The hammer is supposed to be the main weapon on a Lucerne, the hook really meant as an anti cavalry measure,i.e. to pull a rider off his mount (or the horse itself)!

I am maining this weapon now at +6 as there are no better halberds in DS3. they ruined my BKH being obtainable so friggin late in the game. Black knight halberd is gone so is the Blue Knight. y so few Halberds From?!
