Strength

STR
Type Attribute
Effect Attribute required to wield powerful and heavy weapons. Also governs resistance to fire and improves attack strength. "

Strength is a stat in Dark Souls 3. It is an attribute for wielding heavy, powerful weapons and heavy greatshields. Increases the damage you do with strength scaling weapons and fire resistance.

Strength Effects

  • Strength's attack damage per point has a soft cap at 40, 60, and a hard cap at 99.
  • While two-handing, your strength is multiplied by 1.5, allowing you to reach the soft cap at 27, the hard cap at 66.
    • Due to Diminishing returns, it is common for some strength builds to stop at 60 Str.
  • 1 point of Strength gives an increase of 1.1 fire defense, 0.73 physical defenses, 0.4 all other defenses, 0.2 all resistances.
    • Two-handing does not improve your defenses. However, it will decrease stamina drain when blocking.
    • It appears decrease stamina consumption by a percentage, rather than simply increasing stability. Details unknown.

Does strength build made game easier than dex build. Yes, yes it does. Not because of sill needed to play, that's separate discussion I'm not getting involved.
Strengt outside of vitality have best physical defence scaling. Taking less DMG with same fashion is definitely making game easier. In game when 1st hit also guarantee you that you'll have second one having potential to kill in those 2 also made game easier. Because we all know poise is broken in this version. And dispatching oponent is saver than doing chip damage.
All I said is regarding pve, in PvP I believe both sides have equally broken builds that you either go with one of 5 to 10 builds or lose assuming similar skills. Fun PvP is dead with current player pool

Just staggered Sister Friede to death with my axe. I guess that fight is only hard if you are a weaselly dex swordsman.

There's an unnoticed bug with fist weapons (particularly the demon fist) that two handing doesn't apply the ×1.5 bonus to strength. This is on a sl6 deprived with 15 strength. Not sure if that's intentional or what.

People in the comment section acting like their "Dex Build" isn't 40/40 refined carthus, washing pole, gargoyle you sad minmaxer idiot i hope you get hit in the head by Ledo rocks

EZ mode stat, It's so funny that people think they're good at the game when there play on baby mode...enjoy trivializing 99% of bosses in the game with the amount of stagger, damage, and hyper armor strength weapons have. Pick up a dagger and get to work.

The best thing about strength in my opinion is that after you have beaten vordt and acquired his soul then you only need to punch the Tree boss and after that you change the soul to his great hammer and holy molly i love building strength and hammering on bosses with Vordt's Great Hammer! Its just sooo much fun to have a really strong weapon early on in the game.

                  “dEx Is FoR sCrUbS”

Says the guys with 10 miles of phantom range and infinite hyper armor lmao. Y’all cry about r1 spamming with straight swords and the PKCS but it’s 10 times more annoying with your unparriable Ledo’s and dragonslayer greataxe.

Thank God for the Astora Greatsword. It let’s me delete your brain dead weapons with my equally brain dead weapon. From using a dex build I have 2 brain cells instead the 1 you guys have lol.

Once you hit the soft cap for strength, do weapons that scale with strength also get diminishing damage returns with each level?

                    • Anonymous

Went for a strength build recently. It almost felt like cheating with how badly I was wrecking every enemy and nearly every enemy and boss in the game. Not that I'm complaining as my strength build was my 3rd playthrough which made it a very cathartic one :)

Maybe I missed this, but whenever I kick shields on a strength build vs a dex build, the strength build seems to do more stamina damage. Can anyone confirm if strength is better for shield breaking?

Why even have a strength requirement so low that youll never be under it unless you have a modded stat character? How am i supposed to ever get to the point where a 3 strength limit would ever factor into my game whatsoever?

i want to do a strength build will a small weapon like the mace, that is fast enough to be used with pontiffs right eye. any suggestions besides drang hammers?

                            • Anonymous

Don't trust in Scaling letters! Yhorm's Machete has the best scaling between 27 to 66 2-handed (590 to 707 AR). It gives you a total of +20% AR for 39 extra points investment. It's not much per point, however it will passively increase your physical resistance, which is a nice addition (you will take around 10% less damage). 66 STR is definetly worth for PvE purposes.

Hey I’m curious about how some weapons I can use two handed but not in one had because my strength is too low, but that doesn’t work with some other weapons where my strength is too low.

50 strength worked fine with me using a millwood axe with heavy infusion that has only strength scaling... dont know if its worth going 60 or 66 for huge hammers though.. i prefered to level up attunement and some other stats to let me use some buffing spells

For anyone wondering : When two-handing a weapon, the Knight's ring buff does not count during the multiplication. So let's say if you have 10 strength, when two handing your strength will become 10*1.5= 15 and then the ring's bonus will be added on top : so you will deal damage equivalent to someone with 20 strength. (Not 15*1.5=22.5, as some may have hoped).

40 str is enough for any melee build. Going anyfurther should only be done to hold a higher str req weapon never go above 60! 60 to 66 are 6 pts you could put to vitality, faith, vigor and endurance.

                                      • Anonymous

Strength above 50 is a waste people who spend 16 levels to go from 50 to 66 in order to 2 hand a weapong as if they had 99 str which hardly gives weapons 30 AR more could add 16pt of vitality or vigor or endurance maybe get some faith pts anything is better than a 30AR increase.

                                        • Anonymous

Does 2 handing a weapon that has double the strength you use on the weapon. For example: weapon requires 30str, but you only have 15str. 2 handing would enable you to properly use the weapon. Does this rule still work/fallow?
