Drakeblood Greatsword is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.



Greatsword wielded by an order of knights who venerate dragon blood.

This sword, its blade engraved with script symbolizing dragon blood, inflicts magic and lightning damage.

Skill: Stance
While in stance, use normal attack to break a foe’s guard from below, and strong attack to slash upwards with a forward lunge.



Notes and Tips:

  • Can be Infused and Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • If infused with Dark or Chaos, both Magic and Lightning damage will scale with Intelligence and Faith, respectively.
  • In infused with Blessed, it's base damage and Lightning damage will also scale with Faith.
  • If infused with Simple, it's magic damage will scale with Intelligence.
  • The lightest Greatsword weapon, and it's the same length as the Bastard Sword.
  • This weapon has the same two-handed attack chain as the Hollowslayer Greatsword.
  • Keep in mind each damage type is separately calculated by an enemy's respective defenses and absorption stats. It is recommended to keep your AR evenly distributed across damage types.
  • Defenses are harsh on low ARs (i.e. 70), but reward medium-to-high amounts of AR.
    70 AR may transform into an additional 10 damage per swing under normal circumstances, but 150 AR may add about 50 damage.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X". 
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped. 
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has: Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

        (Pasting from a previous reply) "...One benefit to split damage is that enemies with weaknesses to any of those elemental attributes will receive extra damage, plus the reduced damage of the other elements and physical base; if the enemy is weak to more than one of those assigned elements, all the better. This makes the weapon advantageous when fighting groups of enemies with varying weaknesses, and typically increases the damage dealt more than it would with just a physical infusion, though not as much as an elemental weapon with an infusion of the same element would deal. It's more of a safe, multi-use tool, capable of taking on knights, dragons, and hollows alike, as opposed to a specialized, limited-use weapon that can only deal higher damage to a fraction of the world's fodder. The split damage only really becomes a problem in PvP, when most of the elemental damage will be cut drastically."

        In short, it's decent as a backup, but keep something more specialized as your primary weapon. The AR doesn't reflect the true damage dealt, but rather the maximum possible damage. Most of the time, the actual output will be somewhere around 500 at full upgrade and Chaos or Dark infusion, but remains relatively consistent for numerous enemies of varying types. Infusing with Crystal or Blessed will bolster the power of enemies weak to either magic or lightning, but again, this reduces the amount of enemies that it can be used against effectively.

        (The only enemy I can think of in which the erroneous AR would be most accurately reflected for 4-way split damage is Father Ariandel, as he is weak to all elements.)

          Ok, so I'm going to explain how this weapon is to be used. I feel the problem people generally have with this weapon is the split damage. What this allows you to do is to add extra damage into one of these categories and let's call the preexisting damage essentially a little bit of an extra buff. So essentially, what you have to do is to focus on one of these two categories (magic or lightning), and then buff the crap out of it. What I did was I used a basic 20/20 dex/str build. I then infused the sword with a refined gem, and proceeded to put gold pine resin on to give it an AR of about 608. That is with very little stat investment. However, my favorite way to use the sword was to use it on a high faith build. With 20/20 again, and then 60 faith, I then use lightning blade to get a max total of 743 AR with very little split damage. Anyways this is all my opinion, but this is a very good weapon if used right.

            I would like to give some information regarding this weapon. It deals split damage that is true, so its damage output is lowered in pvp. But how much of a reduction are we talking here?. A typical pyromancer with the cool new pyromancy weapon demon scar, can wield this weapon two handed without investing in any other stats. At a weight of 6 it can be easily crammed into most pyromancer builds as a back up weapon to be used when you might need hyper armour. So what is the damage it deals at the hands of a proper pyromancer with dark infusion. Around 300 to 350 when striking a target in pvp, not too shabby considering we are talking about a pyromancer. Its dark damage equals any other weapon that is infused, on to of that you have additional lightning and magic damage, these two deal around 100 damage each, equal to a resin, so basically you have a weapon that has two resins applied on it. Sure it will not deal the damage it shows on the character screen, but this weapon is far from worthless. It has its uses, but its definitely not a main weapon.

              Ok, so, as long as we're talking about damage in general and not about this specific sword there are 2 technicalities: A.) a weapon can also do extra damage with split AR depending on vulnerabilities, such as against slimes. This is obvious to you, me, and anyone who bothers to think for a second, but I'm sure *someone* will read your post and assume they should always use pure physical damage all the time. B.) someone much smarter than me on a reddit post, which I didn't save so I can't link it, did some math and stuff. DS1 and DS3 use the same defense formulas and they're on weird curves. But basically IN TERMS OF PVE, the higher your stats, the more viable split damage becomes. so for NG and NG+, sticking to one (or two for vulnerabilities) damage type is best, but as you go up in NG cycles, the added AR from split damage is going to outdistance their defenses eventually. like NG5 eventually, and no one wants to play that far, which is why this is a technicality. Ole Drakeblood might even be a decent weapon by the time you have 99 in all damage stats, but I'm not gonna play that long on one character to find out.
              Strangely enough, DS2 uses a linear formula so your split damages are going to be most effective at lower cycles, but they still have to deal with the multiple defense problem and git fukked.

              anywho, not trying to correct you necessarily, A just is for people who are reading without thinking and B is just an interesting tidbit.

                The number of people in this comment section who do not understand the difference between AR and actual damage is impressive. Quick primer - every type of damage has a flat reduction to it in addition to a percent absorption between the AR and the actual damage you end up dealing. Those reductions come into play for *each type* of damage, and are added up in total. That means with only one type of damage you only get one reduction, but with multiple types of damage on a weapon you get an *additional* reduction for each extra type of damage on that weapon.

                An AR of 400 with only physical damage might put out 250 actual damage after reductions/absorption. If that same 400 AR was split into 2 types of damage, you might see something closer to 170 actual damage. Now what do you think happens between your AR and actual damage if you fire infuse a weapon that already has physical, lightning, and magic damage for a total of 4 types...?

                  This is the only other weapon that benefits from a Blessed infusion aside from the Lothric Knight (Ultra) Greatsword and can outperform a Lightning infusion with the right balance of Strength, Dexterity and Faith. Though the fact that it's about as long as a Strait Sword is a pretty big drawback, the innate three-way split damage doesn't help either. Aside from chipping through shields in PvE of course.

                    This is like a straight sword with poise and slow but amazing moveset. You can deal 4 split damage, 5 if glitch was used, and swing 8 times. Actually viable weapon

                        While the Drakeblood Greatsword has innate 3 split damage, with the potential of having 4 split damage (creating one of the highest ARs), it's actually quite weak, based on the fact of split damage. There more defenses to punch through, and therefore less damage.

                        Cool sword to use I guess.

                          I just threw a fire gem on mine for my dragon slayer build. Itll scale with my strength.Nothing better then 4 types of damage at one time and a good fire stun lock :)

                            I haven't tested this sword in PvP. I started another NG just to get this one. I have 60 strength, 60 dexterity, 60 intelligence and 60 faith. Which infusion is better at my stat?

                              I tried it with my Pyromancer. (18 Str / 16 Dex / 35 Int / 35 Fth).
                              I infused it with Chaos, since i allready had the Onyx Blade which deals Dark Damage. Must say, i prefer the Onyx Blade over the Drakeblood Greatsword, but it can be a good alternative for Bosses with higher dark resistances. (Twin Princes, Aldrich, Abyss Watchers)

                                With 40/40 Int Faith, 20 str 2h (Chaos or Dark)

                                This weapon has an AR of 723. With power within, it goes up to 888. Plausible if you plan on doing a regen build not using a lothic knight GS or other lightning based options with blessed.
