Notes

  • Deals (Spell buff x 1) damage.
  • This spell deals dark damage, and as such will be slightly more powerful when cast with a dark-friendly catalyst with high Intelligence and Faith.
  • A pure Intelligence build with no Faith investment can still cast this spell with any other staff, and it will only deal 30-50 less damage.
  • This spell has a very fast cast time, long range and good homing properties, but deals marginal damage.
  • The dreg starts off slow but moves faster the farther it travels.

This spell is deceptively strong. It shines on a dedicated int/faith build using the Izalith staff. It became my main casting spell, and the low FP cost is a huge advantage.

I used only Deep Soul, and a little pestilent mist and poison spores to beat Pontiff. Was just a wimpy sorcerer at level 52 with under 500 HP.

I'm finding this spell really useful for stun-locking enemies (especially casters) from a distance. Just start pumping out one after another, and by the time the first one hits the rest are sure to follow.

One thing ppl don't seem to mention about this spell is its low(er) stamina cost. Combined with its long range and tracking, this means you can spam it while evading.

Low damage yes, but who says you have to one-shot things?

Not 100%; but I think this may have a great niche of trivializing low-level Dancer. I know about using Deep Axe, the dark-fists, or similar; but finding new ways of doing things (and potentially easier) is also fun. Cathedral isn't that far to go for making life easier. Will have to try it out soon!

i disagree about people saying it it the best and whatever... if it was i would’ve seen someone use it in the past 2 years...which i didn’t... i tried it myself and faaron dart is better to damage and hit since the deep soul is too weak for it’s speed ( fast cast but too slow ) which make the dart better for close range and deep soul better at long range... but both are good for pressure to dodge and stuff

This is the ultimate magic among all spells..cheap & threatening..quite decent damage for low FP spells..has the best tracking on the game aside from gnaw..but cast faster than gnaw..of you want to know the meaning of true Suffer, my friends..you should try to Roll upon all spamming deep Soul while occasionally get hit by this or maybe worst..dregs. But, friends..you either get hit or git Gud..so there's nothing to fear in death..

been using this, affinity and onyx blade on my hex build with Izalith staff. play smart and its amazing pvp. This spell is the ultimate pressure spell. people will burn their stamina rolling from it then you can roll catch with the blade.

Watching a bunch of lore videos again, and IDK about other people, but it's just clicked for me now. IIRC from certain item descriptions, we have on one hand, sorceries which are a magic based foremost on logic and intelligence. On the other hand we have faith on the old gods and the age of fire which empower miracles. Seeing as the Archdeacons learned sorceries and its logical ways, they likely lost faith in the old gods and discovered the dark souls deep within themselves, as well as ascertaining its nature as the roots of humanity. So it's only fitting that by the logic of sorceries and their newfound faith in the deep, dark or whatever you call it, their spells would result in soul dregs, the stuff that makes up the dark which is the natural thing to follow light and fire.

Also, you could say the deacons and Sulyvahn, who embraced and looked forward to the abyss, are the antithesis of Ollacile and Artorias, those who were consumed and corrupted by it.

Its funny how Archdeacon Royce's improper staff does better with it than we ever can on the best possible staff available.

getting this spell right after the deacons is useless.. Your faith/int is way to low. You get great deep soul also too early. After reaching 30/30 it's going to do slightly damage. but even then its uselesswait for 40/40..
