Great Deep Soul is a Sorcery in Dark Souls 3. To cast a Sorcery you must use a Staff or Special Weapons that can cast Sorceries.
Sorcery which improves upon Deep Soul. Fires powerful darkened soul dregs
Archdeacon McDonnell, a sorcerer himself, delighted in the cathedral's stagnating souls. For him, they represented the glorious bedrock of this world.
Acquired From
- Rank 1 reward from Aldrich Faithful covenant. (You must offer 10 Human Dregs to reach rank 1)
Notes
- Deals (Spell buff x 1.3) damage.
- This spell deals dark damage, and as such will be slightly more powerful when cast with a dark-friendly staff with high Intelligence and Faith.
- A pure Intelligence build with no Faith investment can still cast this spell with any other staff, and it will only deal 30-50 less damage.
- Only a maximum of 2 dark balls can be present at a time.
- This spell is great for catching people that are running away from you because of the decent tracking and relatively slow speed which gets faster the farther it travels.

If anyone wants to know an incredible way to power up your Sorcerer while using these Dark Sorcereries, especially as a 32/25 or 35/30 INT Faith build while using Izalith Staff and Pyromancy Flame, this is for late game, but for early game us scholars candlestick from Greirat store.
Once you get Power Within at the Grand Archives, you can use this spell to power up your spell damage by at leas, maybe, 20%? Or 15%? Don't know the numbers, but it's a lot for sure.
Anyways, have around 18, 24, or 30 Attunement. Use Great Deep Soul, (Spell of your choice maybe Dark Edge :P) then Power Within. Also use the Sages Crystaff on the left offhand and the Pyromancy Flame On the left hand. Use Izalith staff on the right hand.
Buff with Power Within, then switch to Sage staff, use steady chant with Sages crystal Staff and then start spamming Great Deep Soul. These babies will hit for at least 250-480 depending on how much of your stats are there. But damn it's beautiful! If the enemy gets near use Dark Edge and hopefully it lands, if they get hit... Oh, man! Depending on their Dark defense they can get smashed with anyfrom 500 to maybe even 800damage! Also equip other spells like Twisted Wall of Light or Sacredbloom shield for pyromancers or other Sorcerers. Also Farron Flashsword while under these buffs will be devastating, use Sorcerers staff or court Sorcerers staff depending on casting build.. but damn, on a weak magic defense build I can swipe for up to 230 damage, that's enough for the enemy player to drink up on Estus, so if you want to be more aggressive use Undead Hunter Charms too! Also whenever testing out someone wearing just Shadow Garb and my Sorcerer Staff at 180 and using the magic rings an de SagesSteadyChant, I was firing Great Farron Darts For up to 110 damage!.....hopefully this comment gets posted.

Only thing I hate about this spell is the painful grind farming soul dregs off deep clerics. I don’t have online gameplay so have to farm the hard way...the drop rate is agonizing.

I really like this spell. Sure the projectile moves slowly but it casts quickly, homes in on enemies, doesn't cost much focus, and is really spammable.

ive handed in more then 10 dregs i have yet to receive the spell T_T

personally, i love this spell. i use great deep soul as a great pressure spell in conjunction with my cleric's candlestick ( i wanted to do a "deep knight" cosplay), i'll use great deep soul once and run in to get in a running attack beside my orb, then i'll hit r1 once or twice and use great deep soul twice or three times while they back away after. can't wait to incorporate affinity into my fighting style. i've got 25 int/fth so just a little ways to go : )

Should have a bigger vertical hitbox. Ppl can dodge it by running straight at you

"you can use Scholar's Candlestick in your offhand while two-handing the Izalith Staff." - Scholars candlestick has a 12.5% magic boost.

Why does this page recommend two handing the staff when doing so doesn't increase spell damage at all?

There can travel more than 2. My Witcher can shoot at least 4 at the same time. dont have enough stamina to try more.

The Icon of this spell looks like a ring if you look directly at the top gray part of the scroll

Spell is pretty good. I compare it with the great soul arrow. does 200~400dmg depending on ressistance with 30/30 and +20% ring

On it's own, this spell is not good alone. But it seems the use of this spell comes in the form of mix ups, as many people have suggested. It may be a good idea then to show how these spells can be viable in pvp for the reference of others, and allowing more individual playstyles.

Deep protection and Sacred Oath do stack, your damage absorption gets stacked as evident in the status screen.

the mentioned buffs stack with each other (Sacred Oath, Deep Protection and Steady Chant). however, there are buffs that do not stack, such as Sacred Oath and Sunlight Straight Sword's Oath of Sunlight. However, the buff stacking is much more generous than in DS2.

Depp Protection and Sacred Oath DO STACK.. Confirmed by checking Status absorb and attack. Doesn't matter what order they are cast you end up with Sacred Oath damage and armor and Deep Protection stamina regen.

I got summoned to invade as i was getting my reward and i never got my Great Deep Soul

Alright, there are a few people trying to say that this spell is bad. I say those individuals aren't approaching this spell the right way.You have to use this spell as a mix-up. Great Deep Soul, Soul Arrow and Crystal Soul Spear have different cast times and move at different speeds. Mixing these up can have opponents evading too early or too late. This spell is INVALUABLE for mix-ups. The fact that it has a quick cast speed and moves so slowly means you can have these tracking someone while another a spell is incoming.

I got summoned to invade by Aldritch Faithful that I had equipped right after gaining the rank but before getting the spell. What can I do?
This spell is quite strong and homes in more aggressively than any other spell
As Pyromancers likely level both Intelligence and Faith, it serves as a possible alternative to Black Fire Orb for Dark damage, when facing against enemies resistant to Fire.Advantages over Black Fire Orb include much longer range, added homing ability and very low stamina cost, undoubtedly its best feature. You're likely able to squeeze 2-3 shots of this spell in the opportunity windows of most bosses, where as you would probably only get one shot of Black Fire Orb.The downside is that it's weaker and the projectile moves very slowly. It's easy to miss against high mobility targets even if you're in closer range, and against enemies with sweet spots, it will typically never hit correctly.I have no idea how it competes with Great (Heavy?) Soul Arrow, but I think +10 Court Sorceror's Staff w/ 60 INT Great Soul Arrow overpowers +5 Izalith Staff w/ 30 INT and 30 FTH Great Deep Soul.Still, it served me extremely well against several late-game bosses, so I'd recommend it if your build has a good mix of Intelligence and Faith.

Beaware while returning the 10 Human Dregs to Deacon. If you are being summoned to kill a tresspasser and you are just receiving the spell you will not get the spell. It screws up the whole covenant and you must wait till the next NG

the spell is not appearing as i was handing the dregs in when it said invading another world while it said rank one covenant allegiance deepen and the spell is not in my inventory

Damage is quite low comparing to great heavy soul arrow. ~200 less with 30-30 int-fth and izalith staff (the best setup for this spell). Just get yourself 50 int and Heretic's Staff, Court Sorcerer's Staff or Sorcerer's Staff. Only viable in hybrid builds, where sorceries is at last place.

what kind of damage can this pull of with 40/40 and the izalith staff (the one made for dark sorceries)?
The Dark Orb page needs to be merged with this one, as they both refer to the same spell.
This combos decently well with soul spear. Consistently cast this throughout an invasion to condition your opponents to its slow travel speed, then hit them with a quick follow-up of soul spear. It’s a fun combo for those of you who hate themselves enough to make a low level sorcery invasion build…like me!
