      These guys can be tough without heavy-hitting weapons to stagger them. Katanas and poke weapons are the worst to use imo, both for damage and difficulty, because i've noticed skele's and similar enemies take far greater damage from strike damage. If i remember correctly, a 2h mace r1 will send them flying, while dealing lots of damage, so abuse the hell out of that and carthus will be a cakewalk.
