Dragonscale Ring

Ring of Oceiros, former king of Lothric. Reduces damage from backstabs.

In his later years, Oceiros became fascinated with dragons. After going mad, he was more commonly known as the Consumed King. Many assassins were dispatched to his domain, but none returned.

The Consumed King ascribed his resilience to the divine protection of the dragon scale."

Dragonscale Ring is a Ring in Dark Souls 3.

Dragonscale Ring Effect

  • Reduces damage taken from backstabs by 30%.

Where to Find Dragonscale Ring

  • Looted from a corpse in the Consumed King's Garden. It's halfway up the second lift in this area. You will need to jump off as it goes up or down. ()

Notes

  • The Dragonscale Ring is the only effective counter against the Hornet Ring's critical boost. It is an invaluable tool if one finds themselves prone to suffering at the hand of critical attacks.
  • The Dragonscale Ring will change the damage dealt by the Dark Hand's grab attack weapon art, Sacred Flame, and backstabs. With the ring on, you will take 24% less damage from the Dark Hand grab, 30% less from Sacred Flame, and 30% less from backstabs.
  • When the Hornet Ring is involved, you instead take 18% less damage from the Dark Hand grab (meaning you not only negate the entire effect of the Hornet Ring, but you also negate enough damage to reduce the damage further than the "base" damage of the grab), you will take 30% less damage from Sacred Flame as normal (Hornet Ring does not affect Sacred Flame), and you will take 8.9% less damage from Backstabs (once again negating the entire Hornet Ring bonus, as well as some of the normal damage).
  • Plunging attacks may or may not be affected by the Dragonscale ring. This needs more testing.

How ironic the location we found this ring, is also the location we can immediately backstab an enemy lol

Pretty good ring but its pretty hard to fit over other more useful rings (slot 1 and 2 are almost always favor ring and prisoner's chain) while other slots are occupied by hornet, chloranthy, havel's,life ring, etc oftenly

2021 shout-out.. I'm pretty certain this ring is amazing on my duel weird weapon buffer... Most the people around now only fish and latency to skilled players hornet dagger ripostes and backestab fishing happens... The chaos dagger definitely gets a nerfed riposte from this ring.. as it no longer is garanteed to break my tears

This ring pretty much tells you that if you choose to me a more pure spell casterm you're gonna need to backside covered as you're backstab bait. The poisecastbois probably could use this ring too.

It'd be a lot more interesting if this ring worked on general critical damage rather than just backstabs. Swapping to this when you see someone trying to set up a parry would add some more depth to the fight.

one thing people forget that if someone uses a hornet ring that gives 100% + 30% = 130% and if you counter it with this ring it doesnt bring it back to 100% because 30% of 130 isnt 30 but 39. if you dont undersant: you counter the entire hornet ring AND an addicional 9% of the damage

Doesnt work for ripostes by the way, should probably change that. Tested it today with a friend, only works on backstabs

Wait, is this only for backstabs or does it decrease riposte dmage too? Would this help against Hollowslayer builds spamming r1 for crits?

I would think this would be helpful in Spear of the Church ganks what with all the hosts with 3 phantoms n crap

If someone is spamming parries praying for a lucky shot, just throw this on your last ring slot rather than whatever other throwaway ring you have there. Ignore all the git gud bull*****from kids who have never invaded in their life, any decent invader will be swapping their last ring around during an invasion anyway. I'll take a 300 point damage reduction from a 1,000HP spammer attack over an extra dash of stamina regen any day.

this ring is a false hope. if you are gud you avoid getting critted. If you are aren't gud you will be critted until you are dead.

                          • This is a good defensive ring if you can fit it. Anyone can get backstabbed these days and this ring will ease the hurt. In particular ultra users should get out of their way to open a slot for this ring, in my opinion. (I never ultra but I sometimes backstab those who do)

This ring is only good on an ugs build since they are the most prone to backstabs. And if you get backstabbed with any with any other build, it was likely due to your own stupidity.

I find I always end up with one of three sets of Rings when I do a Build.

                                Favor, Havels, Chloranthony, SITUATIONAL
Favor, Speckled Stoneplate, Knight Slayers, SITUATIONAL
                                Favor, Wolf, Dragonscale, SITUATIONAL

I started maining this in group PvP cuz I'm usually using soothing sunlight to cover my partner. People literally don't stop trying to backstab when they see casters. Also it's good for people who fish. Honestly I wish the left backstab fishing in DS1 and PvE.

Seems to reduce all crit-damage (though not sure if all by 30%) It let me survive a hornet riposte so it definitely does something.

I tried getting backstabbed by enemies with and without this ring equipped and there was no damage difference whatsoever. Can else confirm this?

                                      • Anonymous

I tested the different crit with my friend while the dragonscale ring was equipped and it also reduced the damage from the parry, the poise break and the plunging attack

A bit shoddy guidance here but will try my best. After defeating the dancer and lowering the ladder, climb up it and take a left. Infront of you will be a knight, and behind him an elevator towards ocerious. After reaching the ground floor you'll want to stick to the right after finishing up any hostiles. No need to hug the wall in the toxic puddles though. After a while you'll reach a shortcut elevator, ride it half way and jump off. A few meteres ahead will be the ring along with a priest.

from EZSPECIAL via /r/DarkSouls3JPN sent 19 minutes agoMight be wrong but isn't that the one you get by dropping off the lift near oceiros? The one you use as a shortcut to get back to oceiros boss room, from the dancer bonfire
