Hawk Ring |
|
Hawk Ring is a Ring in Dark Souls 3.
Hawk Ring Effect
- Extends the range of Bows and Crossbows.
- Reduces damage falloff of Throwing Knives, Poison Throwing Knives and Kukris at long distances.
- Raises the throwing arcs for Firebombs, Black Firebombs and Lightning Urns when used without lock-on.
- Extends maximum zoom range of bows, crossbows, and binoculars (minimum zoom remains the same however, so seeing the effect requires further zooming with the directional pad)
- Weight: 0.7
Location
- Dropped by the bow-wielding Giant in the Undead Settlement.
Videos
Notes and Trivia
- Extends effective range by 65%.
- Projectiles have a gradual drop in performance the further you are away from the target. This ring will increase the distance before damage dropoff, which affects the trajectory and damage dealt with arrows and bolts when shot from far away.
- Collect all seven Young White Branches at all three white birch trees, and the Giant will die, leaving the ring behind.
- You can kill the Giant at any time to receive the ring.
- At some point in the late game the Giant will die of natural cause. The player can go to the top of the tower and find the giant dead with the ring at his feet.
- The "calamitous dragon" mentioned in the ring's description is Kalameet from the Artorias of the Abyss DLC for Dark Souls.

Listen, I know it feels bad, but if you plan to link the flame and make it to NG+, you kill him no matter what. It's either:
1. You kill him with weapons as soon as you can and get a very useful ring, early game. (And then maybe call your mommy after and tell her about your boo-hoo feelings; that's what I did.)
2. You kill him indirectly by collecting all the Young White Branches, etc. He dies from your actions just the same.
3. You progress through the game past the point that triggers his death. This mechanic might feel like it's the game killing him and not you, but it doesn't happen until YOU trigger it to happen by progressing far enough.
The only way he 'lives' is if you put the game down now and never come back. Maybe this isn't for you. Maybe stick to mobile games from here on out, crushing candy is more your speed.

OK everyone I figured out how. There are 3 white birch trees:
- undead settlement
- cathedral of the deep
- farron keep
In each of these areas you need to get all the tree branches AND the undead bone shards. The undead bone shard in the farron keep is near the keep ruins bonfire (the room full of slugs)
I did get the bell vine tree chime and Dusk of crown but can't confirm they're needed but I 100% confirm that all the undead shards needed because the one near keep ruins bonfire was the last step and it worked.

This ring also gives the Follower Javelins Weapon Art a lower or flatter throwing trajectory

im sorry buddy, but my 100% duty is more important, thanks for helping me anytime all those ng+

Is there a max range for arrows/bolts? I was shooting thralls with my Light Crossbow (42 range) but they didn't take any damage. I could see them stagger from getting hit, but no damage. Had to move up closer to deal damage to them. Would this ring help with that?

I accidentally slabbed my hawk ring +9 is there any way to reverse the upgrade? I can't handle this much power.

I didn't have to kill him to get the ring. I went back to revisit the area and noticed he wasn't shooting his arrows at the enemies below. So I went to check on him, and found him dead with the ring lying next to him.

This ring is extremely valuable as most classes will find a ranged weapon useful at various points thoroughout this adventure.

When you want this you really need to think, do you really wanna kill your friend? or do you wanna get the ring? Simple. Kill him, start Ng+. Solved.

The giant is still alive even though I'm at the soul of cinder fight. What do you mean late game natual death? I really don't want to kill him myself.

Good to have this in your pack in case you come across a group camping the bonfire in an invasion. This, obscuring ring, and a greatbow are great ingredients for getting players to break up camp and run into the level.

Does this increase lock range and allow lock around corners? Or can anyone recommend a mod that fixes this?

I tested an Arbalest +10 (50 range) with Lloyd's ring and Hawk ring with the hollows on Cementery of Ash bonefire, as they don't have armor:
Sniper Bolts with both rings does 334 dmg to both hollows (at auto-lock distance and aiming the fartest hollow from the red mark on the floor)
Heavy Bolts with both rings does 349 at auto lock distance and 306 aiming from the same spot
WITHOUT HAWK RING:(but with Lloyd's)
Sniper bolt does 334/276
Heavy Bolt does 349/200
Conclusion: Sniper bolts almost ignore the damage drop-off using Hawk's, besides that, the base damage is the same at Lock-on distance with ring or not.
Theory - the giant in the undead settlement is Hawkeye Gough

I have 6 Young White Branches (never used any), plus the unique one from the giant, and the giant is dead. Something doesn't fit since the guide talk about 7 branches from the trees (3+2+2). Not sure why I have got only 6 either. I don't remember buying any. Unless I've got it as a burial gift, but i don;t remember that either.

I collected all of the Young White Branches, and the other items by the trees but the Giant never croaked. So, with heavy heart, I slayed him to get the ring... Would've been nice to have this ring earlier as I decided to heavily use the bow. Got into a pickle though when I sent Greirat to Lothric (did Dancer boss fight early to get easy Titanite chunks), and I couldn't get his ashes in the Grand Archives! (You need to destroy Legion, Yhorm, and Aldritch before gaining access)

You also need to pick any items around the white trees for him to die.

It doesn't increase throwing knife damage, and doesn't increase arrow damage either.
I don't know how range is calculated in-game, if it's total distance or just until the trajectory starts to decline, or what unit range is based upon. Do normal arrows for example have 100 range in addition to the range of the bow? It may seem that way, since some arrows have a larger negative range than some bows provide. But since I don't know for sure, it also makes it hard to provide exact numbers.Anyway, here are some rough numbers, measured with the difference between different bows and arrows:Hawk Ring = +30 rangeFeather Arrows = +50 rangeLarge Arrows = -60? rangeSniper Bolts = +30 rangeHeavy Bolts = -40? range

No one ever gives it any thought but I doubt that the player character truly wears this as a ring I mean it came off a giant. We probably wear them as a crown or something or another, possibly a bracelet.

Can grab all branches lying around the dilapidated bridge graveyard tree, the Cathedral of the Deep graveyard tree, and the Farron Keep tree out in the swamp. He'll be dead of non-sinful causes by that method. This ring is actually rather significant. Shots fly much straighter and do more damage thanks to the ramp up. Also works with crossbows.

i found ring next to him he was already dead when i found him not sure what triggered his death im in late game (killed hidden bosses & saw ending ready for ng+)that might be a factor
Dropped by the irritating Giant archer in the Undead Settlement, easy kill.
For getting without killing him, you need to collect all the ITEMS around the three white trees and the Bellevine and crown. I had everything and he was still alive. Checked the locations and noticed there was a soul container at the cathedral tree I missed. When I picked it up, he IMEDIATELY stopped sniping. And sure enough, I found him dead.
