hit things with your sword. if they dont die by normal sword smash, then try firesword. yea they should be dead now, but if they arent maybe try a resin of another element. tbh i found this to be very fun when i played it. the sword feels natural,to me at least, and it deals a lot of damage so im not complaining. another side note: you should have carthus flame arc and black fire orb, this way you got some range and viability in pvp, should you choose, however this is a pve build.
