Karla is an NPC in Dark Souls 3.

- Accepts Quelana Pyromancy Tome and the Grave Warden Pyromancy Tome, and hesitantly takes the Deep Braille Divine Tome and Londor Braille Divine Tome if the player asks her twice.
- Killable.
- Dies if you die talking to her in Irithyll Dungeon before being sent to Firelink.
- Will complain if you give her 2 Pyromancy Tomes in a row, saying that you only bring her Pyromancy Tomes.

- Located in a locked cell on the ground floor of Irithyll Dungeon, next to the main Jailer group.
- The key to her cell is the Jailer's Key Ring and can be found in the Profaned Capital. Within the toxic swamp with the Sewer Centipedes, go up a ladder and stick to the left side of the roof until you come to some steps, follow the path and the key should be there.

Dialogue
First encounter
Oh, there you are."
"I thought you'd all but forgotten me. How sweet."
"Good to know that a skinny little heretic can still turn heads."
Hm? Oh...you're not one of them, are you?"
"Accept my apologies, for mistaking you for one of those leeches."
"So, what business have you here?"
"This is a land of monstrosities. And I am no exception."
Choice: Offer help/Do not help her
Offer help
"You're here to save me...?"
"But I am guilty. A wretched child of the Abyss."
"Is that something you can forgive?"
Do not help her
You're very frank. If you've no business here, take your leave at once. For your own sake.
Choice: Save her nonetheless/Do not save her
Save her nonetheless
Oh, really. You are no ordinary man."
"Very well. Besides, I've grown tired of imprisonment."
"I am Karla, and I accept your proposal."
Do not help her
You're very frank. If you've no business here, take your leave at once. For your own sake.
Talking to her again after choosing to not help her
What is it? Something else? Ahh, don't fret over me, I'm stuck here anyway."
Second encounter (Firelink Shrine)
Ahh, there you are."
"As I said, I am Karla. And am grateful to you."
"Now, what shall we do."
"The only thing that might interest you is my sorcery."
"Although my dark arts are a detestable sort."
"That wouldn't interest you, would it?"
Choice: Ask/Decline to learn dark sorceries
Ask to learn
Hm." (Nothing in subtitles)
"You're a wicked one, aren't you?"
"Very well. Humans are of the dark, and you are no different."
"Some may avert their eyes, but the truth remains the truth."
"Be careful though. Few humans are privy to this knowledge."
"Let it be a secret, [kept] between you and I..."
Decline to learn
Hm" (sight*)
"Most Regrettable"
"I have nothing else, you see, nothing at all"
"Have you so soon forgotten? That place is home only to monstrous things, and i am no exception ."talk after decline to learn
"Ahh,hello there. I`m sorry to say..."
"This truly is all i have."
"Detestable sorceries that delve into the darkness of man..."
Greeting
Ahh, hello again. Thank goodness.
Yes, yes, you require my sorceries, I presume?""Ah, hello again. Thank goodness.
One can become quite attached, even to a bumbling apprentice.
Oh, I'm hardly serious."
First "Talk" option
There is one thing that you should know."
"There is a darkness within man, and I am afraid you will peer into it."
"Whether the fear will spark self-reflection, or a ruinous nostalgia..."
"...is up to you entirely."
"Fear not, your choice will bring you no scorn."
Quelana Pyromancy Tome
Oh, a pyromancy tome, have we?
Quelana, Witch of Izalith...well, this is a fascinating pyromancy...
Very well. If this is your wish.
I will unravel the thing the best I can.
Besides. It will be nice to play master for once.
Grave Warden Pyromancy Tome
Oh, another pyromancy tome, have we?
And one that resonates with the dark, yes, well suited to me... (laughs)
I may be a heretical sorcerer, but you bring me nothing but pyromancies!
Fiendish little lad, you..."
Any Divine Tome
Oh, is this a Divine Tome?
What on earth are you thinking?
I wouldn't go near a Divine Tome, or any so-called miracle.
And casters of miracles are sure to steer clear of me.
So, please.
Don't torture me so."
Any Divine Tome, again
Ahh, you, how could you...
Ahhh....
I know, I know. I owe my life to you.
Fine, then. [but] Just this once, I will tell you this tale.
But do understand, it will be my first time.
I'll have no snickering, should I err."
After giving the Firekeeper her Eyes
Oh, are you lost on your journey?
No matter; today's lost are conquerors tomorrow.
It only demonstrates the making of a champion.
And besides, it will not change my sense of gratitude, or how I think of you."
(And besides, whatever your choice... It will not change my sense of gratitude, or how I think of you.)
Leaving
Do stay safe"
Upon Death
You're a fickle one
and vicious..."
Trivia
- Karla is voiced by Jenny Funnel, who has previously voiced Yuria the Witch (Demon's Souls), Quelana of Izalith (Dark Souls), real Iosefka and Vileblood Queen Analise (Bloodborne)
- Karla's character appears to be a reference to Yuria from Demon's souls, both characters are found imprisoned, and use dark magic channeled from emotion, both share the same voice actress.
- Her item and ashes description imply that she is a Child of Dark much like Nashandra, Elana, Nadalia, and Alsanna.
- Her name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word "churl" or Old High German "karal" which originally meant "man" and later "commoner", which may be picked as a reference to her "dark" nature connected with humanity in contrast to gods who are referred to, at the least, as royalty or nobility.

Worst damn progression of the saga. To reach her by legitimate means you need to beat the high wall of lothric, go through the undead settlement (shortest segment) go to farron keep, beat the crystal sage, go to the cathedral, kill the deacons. At this point it would be fair to meet her and start to learn hexes but no, there's still a LONG road for such basic task. Go now to finish the rest of the keep, kill the abyss watchers, traverse the damn catacombs, kill wolnir, traverse irithyll, access the ****ing dungeon and search for the stupid key to her cell there.
To be a proper warlock you needed to (not counting cementery of ash since it's the tutorial) pass 8 zones and kill 5 bosses.
To put it into perspective, in dark souls 2 to be a proper pyromancer you needed to beat Heide and No Man's Warf (2 zones, 2 bosses) and de-petrify the vendor with a branch found in the very Warf

if you tried to touch her skin your hand would just stick...

Her comment on only being given pyromancy tomes makes me wonder if there were initially more dark sorceries - maybe even hexes - planned for the base game

It doesn't mention it here, but most people assume she is the daughter of zullie the witch, as both Alvar's armor, who is zullie's lover, and her armor can be found near her cell, with one of the first spells sold being described as a spell "passed from a mother to a daughter" and all of her armor pieces describing the desire to be like a legendary heretical witch

Not getting the special dialogue after giving the Firekeeper her eyes. Possible you only get this if you talk to her right after or after you've also given the Firekeeper Soul.

Another likable npc that doesn't just die? Is this even dark souls
- Anonymous
I'd let her light me on fire, or torture me with the dark stuff Idek what she sells
Please stop simping for my daughter or I'll invade you the next time you go near Irithyll dungeon.

She appears in Elden Ring under the name of Sellen and she finally decided to take her shoes off. But don’t do her quest.. it ends on a sad note.

I guess this website didn't know about this dialogue for Karla but if you buy something from her, then leave, sometimes she'll say: "Don't stir up any trouble. You're my apprentice, don't forget."
- Anonymous
Does anything happen if you learn dark miracles from her? I can't tell if she fears them like Irina or just has a distaste for having to teach miracles

Mods keep deleting comments to hoard all of karla's stickiness to themselves, shame on them

Fùckers did it again, they deleted some of the glorious horny comments, why can't we live with karla's feet in our nose, why?!

The second I heard her voice, I was like: "Wait a second, didn't she voice Quelana?" So I checked, and sure enough, Jenny Funnel voiced both of them (and then some throughout the series). This revelation makes the moment where she says "A pyromancy tome? Quelana of Izalith... well, this is fascinating..." that much better.
annoys me that she complains if you give her pyromancy or miracle tomes, yet there's no tome or scroll that she's actually interested in. i went to this page to see if there was anything it would make sense to give her, but nothing. between her and straid in DS2 who keeps insulting you no matter what you bring or do for him, i've had it with rude hexers.

I saved Karla after having given the Eyes to the Firekeeper. Her dialogue hasn't changed even after I've removed and given the eyes back. Is this a known bug perhaps?
- Anonymous
I did not save her, altough I cleared entire room from jailers and other creatures & didn't touch her cell gate (didn't even have the key to do so), and she was back in Firelink Shrine when I checked her firelink spot, how?
- Anonymous
It’s so annoying that yuria won’t let you choose your own spouse like karla. I wouldn’t be cool with shoving a sword through her head but if my character and her end up together forever then I would be down with it, cause the dark side is better anyway.

AHHHH MY FINGER SLIPPED AND I CHAOS BED VESTIGE'D HER IN THE FACE GODDAMMIT

tbh i don't know what her opening dialogue is implying when you first meet her in the cage, but i doubt i like it

They should at least place Karla facing Greirat, then he won't always think of going to pillage.

Oh if I love this skinny little heretic, she can indeed still turn heads.

Before anyone thinks to kill her for her set, you can also get it through the Prisoner Chief's Ashes. Do NOT harm the waifu material.

I made a pyromancer with Onyx Blade and when i went to free her out of her cell some f*cking monster killed her. I'm beyond frustrated..

Thank God there is no stupid complicated quest for this character
- Anonymous
I can only ponder how being locked up in a cell for so long has done to her and her "needs." Then a *literal* knight comes to save her, con only imagine what happens next ;)

It's touching that she says "Thank Goodness" when she sees you. She won't admit it but, being the first person who's ever kind to her, she cares about your well being.

I have Firekeeper's eyes in inventory, didn't give them to her, but Karla says the "Giving Firekeeper eyes" dialogue. Is it normal?

Be aware that poison clouds can kill Karla through walls. After killing the rats and jailers with poison I saw that she was dead, before I had even gotten the key to her cell.
- Anonymous
I don’t think she complains when you give her two pyro tomes in a row, if you listen to her tone (atleast in English) she sounds enthusiastic when she calls you fiendish. This could just be a response to only female characters though. Not sure.
Question:
I killed Yhorm early, will that kill her? (Like how Cornyx dies if we didnt free him before the Curse Rotted Greatwood)

She actually doesnt die, when yourself die while talking to her. At the Dungeon that is, while sending her to Fireshrine.

Turning Prisoner Chief ashes to the maid sells Karla's set, which leads me to believe that the warden stripped her from her clothes and probably raped her. Kept her clothes as a trophy or***** like that.

yesterday,in my first run I opened the cell then the jailers ****** my ***, so sad. So i returned to this location and she was not there. sorry, i'm drunk and unfortunately a brazilian gen-x. steam: @ arghlemonster

I just realised that shes the biggest chad out of all the DS3 characters, because: Locked in a prison - prolly sleeps, hears someone approach her - thinks its jailer and doesnt give a f@k, gets dark miracle/sorcery/pyromancy books - isn't fussy about it like Irina, sees that Ashen 1 likes darkness more than light and they'll prolly extinguish 1st flame - "idgaf , same old sht lul" no b1tchn about it.

i tried to free her but the 2 giant rats attacked her and killed her instantly. she said something around the lines of curse you ashen one we shall see each other in the abyss. what a stupid rip off i swear the god im gonna murder the rats because they are pissing me off.

I can't believe all the praising comments here. She's a poor copypasta of DeS' Yuria with a squandered hint of backstory... I like her personality, but that's about it. One of the worst NPCs in the franchise...

It's better to give Irinia the dark miracle Braille tomes, as they turn her into a thirsty and insatiable nun that craves your touch.
She gives the "lost on your journey" dialogue even when I haven't given the Firekeeper the eyes, you might just need to find them.
