Demon Cleric is an Enemy in Dark Souls 3.
Demon Cleric Enemy Description
- A Demon found in Smouldering Lake and Old King's Antechamber, possessing four arms, a crown of horns and a beaked face.
- Utilizes long and mid-range Pyromancies and wields a Great Machete.
- Will summon Chaos Fire Orbs.
Demon Cleric Combat Information
- Health: NG (1425), NG+ (2038), NG++ (??), NG+3 (??), NG+6 (??), NG+9 (??)
- They are armed with the Great Machete and a Pyromancy Flame (not visible). They have four hands and they use a similar moveset to Yhorm's Great Machete (1-handed downward chops, 2-handed slam attacks). With the flame, they can use spells similar to Fire Orb, Fire Whip, and what seems to be the Floating Chaos spell from the Ashes of Ariandel DLC.
- Their balls of fire can spawn on various heights, some of them will be unreachable by all but the furthest-reaching vertical melee attacks.
- Balls of Fire do not have a lot of health, making bows and crossbows an excellent ranged solution even for non-DEX builds (through observation, they die after inflicting >/= 100 damage).
- Balls of Fire take no damage from fire-based attacks.
- If the Smoldering Ghru is killed, all Floating Chaos orbs that it spawned will disappear.
- Can be lured?
- Can't be Rapported.
- Very weak against bleed. With barbed straight sword (Fully upgraded) +Carthus Rouge, every second hit caused huge bleeding damage.
- Can be parried/riposted and backstabbed.
Demon Cleric Drops
- Souls: NG (900), NG+ (2700), NG++ (??), NG+3 (??), NG+6 (??), NG+9 (??)
- Almost always Titanite Shards.
- Chaos Gem (Rare)
- Large Titanite Shards (Rare)
Demon Cleric Notes & Trivia
- When they are about to create another floating fire orb, they will telegraph this with a high-pitched whine. Use this opportunity to backstab them before they can finish making the fire orb.
- Despite being titled as 'Clerics', they possess no miracles whatsoever.
- The description of the Floating Chaos spell suggests that it may be the same as the floating fire orbs used by these enemies.
- The Floating Chaos orbs summoned by the Demon Clerics will disappear when they are killed.

farming these guys for chaos gems is making me want to eat my laptop

They didn't stagger from a fully charged DSGA R2, truly having the time of my life farming them
Really funny that the game constantly flaunts the Old Demon King and the Demon Prince as the last demons and just gives these guys the finger.
They deserve it tho :^)

Sounds like he's wailing on a harmonica when he screams.
Large Soul of a Blues Traveler?

Is the wiki rigged? I farmed the Ghrus in the Izalith Tome bonfire and they drop Fire Gems instead of the Chaos gems

Run to the Black Knight, Aggro him, lure him out, let him get aggroed by these mfs, sit back and watch him destroy them
- Anonymous
These guys have way overtuned stats for the point of the game they're in tbh.
- Anonymous
Can also drop Large Titanite Shards but i find it more rare than Chaos Gems

With over 1300 health I’m still a one hit for them which is very frustrating when trying to clear out the area
- Anonymous
These guys just spawn you a whole family of fire orbs and you get stunlocked to death.
- Anonymous
In my experience their flame spray attack is an instakill at point blank, Probably caused by several hitboxes being spawned on your character at once.
- Anonymous
even tho this says they are resistant to blunt, i suggest using the reinforced club for them, they stagger every 2 hits and even an upgraded one deals solid damage because of the bleed.

- Anonymous
The ghrus themselves are easy, but those ****ing fireballs are bullshit and shouldn't stagger at all.
- Anonymous
A godsend for invaders because unlike the melee ghru they tend to keep their distance and not get shredded by gankers instantly, more reliable than a player mage at your back
If you’re sick of these a-holes like I am, I highly recommend bringing a reinforced club. Bye bye poise, hello bleed and stagger.

Don't know if it is anything but their faces remind me of the mask from the Crystal Sage's hat and both have a connection with these guys being descendants of the Farron Keep Acolytes and one of the Sages directly working with them. Could be nothing but pretty interesting if there's something here.

Call me salty all you want but you can't change my opinion that these guys are ****ing hyper cancer, same level as teleporting dogs or maybe even more

call me salty all you want but you can't change my opinion that these guys are ****ing stage 5 cancer

The sound they make when they make those floating chaos orbs sounds like a junkie in a 7-Eleven bathroom shoving a beer bottle up his ass

**** these guys. I lost 75K souls last night to their absurd flame sweep attack which deals well over 1000 damage, even one shot me AGAIN when i tried to retrieve my souls unembered @ 39 vigor. FML, just gotta git gud. I found strafing to the right while hugging them to be advantageous however, as you will be moving away from the sweep and into backstab positioning. Also watch out for their stupid ****ing balls. **** them. I love this game.

These things scare the crap out of me. Brutish yet intelligent. They love spamming those floating chaos turrets well before they can even SEE you. Their birdlike face and screech are creepy as hell. And when you close the distance, their 4 arms wielding large machetes will welcome you.

Why is this thing labeled as a Ghru? Aren't they called Demon Clerics? Why would anybody think it's a Ghru?
- Anonymous
Thank god these guys were included. With the exception of ODK, Strays/Fire Demons and Stone Demons... this is one of the last types of Demon in Dark Souls lore. I hated the Bassilisks and rats in the area but I really loved these guys. The Capra Demon like head and the overall look kind of made up for the fact Fromsoft didn't include a surviving Taurus or Capra Demon. Nevertheless the fact they exist makes me happy.

whats that? you want to PROGRESS through an area? or get a KEY ITEM? too bad these guys will spawn literally infinite fireballs that can spam 30 projectiles at once and one shot you :) not to mention you have to walk through a narrow hallway where they can easily gang up on you.... thanks fromsoft

Actually just found out you get the bonus damage from the black knight weapons on those... so i guess they're demons? Chaos Demons? or a combination of Ghrus and Chaos demons?

The flame-arc they cast can and will one-shot you, even with high health and armor. For some reason it will hit you multiple times, applying full damage on each hit. I went from 100% life to dead in less than a second, with 32 vitality and a life ring while sporting 25% fire absorption. Broken AF.

How are there 2 pages for this enemy but none for the other ghrus found in the Smoldering Lake?

- Anonymous
apparently in the japanese version they are called "demon clerics" though I still think they are some form of Ghru
- Anonymous
I don't understand how a fiery beast can be resistant/immune to frost.
- Anonymous
So since there's an area where Ghru are worshiping a dead demon is it safe to assume they're not actually demons but just a tribe that happens to have discovered pyromancy living in the smouldering lake ruins? There is 2 pyromancy tomes down there to at least support the theory that they could have just stumbled across the knowledge and formed somewhat of a faith around it.

After dying to them over and over again, I have found out that they drop Chaos Gems too. (Luck 11)

this is way too much in depth info on a one generic enemy you meet maybe 3 times because theres 3 of them, why don't you write statistics and wall of text on skeletons as well?

This game has a kill counter. Your luck doesn't matter until you reach a certain amount of kills to get the rare item drop. Figured this out farming ringed knights. it's like once youv'e killed over 30 - 50 of whatever, it unlocks the rare drops. After that your luck matters. It lowers the amount you have to kill before the next rare drop. Once you kill like 70 - 100 you will get rares easy with high luck. Ringed Knights drop their whole sets for me like every 4 kills now with luck at 150. These demons will start droppind chaos gems pretty often after you kill like 70 of them. After you kill like 50 You will get like 2 or 3 drops. Covenant items are set at like 1 every 40 kills lol.

Looking carefully at them, I think this is actually two Ghrus, one riding on the other's back. If you look carefully, you can see a second, smaller pair of legs dangling behind the normal pair. Also, from the side, their body appears to be two bodies pressed together.

I have been grinding the one outside Old Demon King's antechamber bonfire and so far i have found that they practically always drop titanite shards and every 10-25 deaths they drop large titanite shards, and rarely drop chaos gems(around every 30-40 deaths)

Good choice against them, Black Fire Orb interrupt his pyro and make good damage if you are a pyro with the rings on you.
- Anonymous
They drop three items as far as I know (I grinded one just outside the bonfire for 30ish minutes to see)Most common: titanite shards drop almost every timeSorta rare: Large titanite shards seem to drop every 5-20 deathsVery rare: Got one chaos stone the whole time I grinded that one guy.

At close range the attack where they spew fire in an arc will one hit you even at good fire resist and high health because every degree of the arc will hit you at this range.

Off hand the CS Rapier and hang at the Old Kings Antechamber bonfire and grind on the one in the doorway. Early game, this is a nice place to quickly grind for an almost garanteed small shard drop and sometimes a large one with high Item Discovery. Careful though, if your defense is low his Flame Whip will f-ck you up

Totally different body shape, in addition to extra arms plus a long tail. The average Ghru have basic tools (rotten wood), whereas this creature seems to have the wherewithal to use a large metal blade.

I wonder if their skulls are what the warlocks mask is made from in DS2. Very similar in looks.
- Anonymous
I always thought they were demonfied pyromancers.Pyromancers who sought out and/or got a little too close to the chaos flame and got mutated.
- Anonymous
The magic orbs they create and have guarding them before engaging, will despawn automatically once the demon itself is dead, so just position yourself behind a pillar and avoid them while you fight. Easiest way to avoid being stunlocked.
I don't think these are Ghrus, they look nothing like them. They're just demons.
