Monstrosity of Sin is an enemy in Dark Souls 3
A repulsive monster that Slumbers in the Profaned Capital.
With a frothing mouth shaped like a hand, stone-like flesh and eyes on its chest, these monstrosities live up to their name.
Monstrosity of Sin Drops
- Dung Pie.
- One has a guaranteed Eleonora drop. (The Monstrosity found near the toxic swamp, behind a door)
Monstrosity of Sin Location
- They're found sleeping in the Profaned Capital church, surrounded by a toxic swamp and Sewer Centipedes.
- One can be found sleeping on the second floor of the church.
- Three others can be found behind a wooden gate on the ground floor of the church.
Monstrosity of Sin Combat Information
- They have a lot of health and their attacks do a lot of damage, but they are rather slow, making it easier to keep proper distance.
- They use a fighting style involving rolls, buttstomps and crawling. Some of these can cover a fair amount of distance.
- They are very susceptible to bleed damage. Any weapon with bleed + Carthus Rouge will inflict bleed in 1 hit, making them very easy to kill. This is by far the most effective strategy when it comes to dealing with them. Kukris also cause bleeding, making them an effective alternative which can take care of them from a distance. If you'd rather not use infusions or consumable items, you can easily kill them using any weapon with innate bleed, as it only takes 2-3 hits to trigger blood loss.
- Despite being an Abyssal creature, they are weak to dark.
- They have a deadly grab attack after standing that results in them eating you. However, you can counter attack its eyes on its belly for a riposte. This is easy to pull off using the Armor of Thorns Set. It is even easier still from range using bows, crossbows, and magic; while locked on and with good timing, the projectile can be made to hit their vulnerable spot when they stand up to deliver their attack, setting them up for an easy, virtually risk-free riposte.
- The two that are found asleep inside the church on the first floor can become stuck in the doorway once aggroed, due to the large size of their bodies. If you stand far enough away they'll be unable to use any of their leap, grab, or charge attacks (which have the potential to reposition them) but will continue following you, making it easy to safely pick one off with a bow or spells.
- Their grab attack will also drain some of your collected souls. It drains 150 each second for 7 seconds total (1050 souls), but the grab can be escaped by button-mashing, allowing you to escape after 4 seconds and losing 600 souls.
- None of them respawns upon death.

Monstrosity of Sin Notes & Trivia
- It has more than 5 fingers on all of its hands.
- The growths on the palm and fingers of its "main hand" are very reminiscent of Manus.

I've played 100 hours or so and never seen one, only found out they exist from tiktok Lmao

So basically they are the descendants of Alsanna from DS2 and they ****ed around with Profaned Flame and found out

Good dark souls enemies give you feelings of repulsion and raw panic simultaneously. This reminded me of a grotesque baby. You can tell it's something special when it's asleep in the middle of a big room by itself. The panic set in when it was taking a lot of damage and I realised it could follow me all the way out onto the roof and up the stairs.

So what is the lore for these guys? Is it really just as simple as "uhh, something Manus something something" ?
- Anonymous
Horrible, terrible, hate it, nightmare, disaster, worst, disgusting, awful, bad, why?

You can get one to throw you into Siegward's place if you can't jump.

Frost was also pretty effective for me, Vordt's hammer would freeze them in 1 hit. I would then firebomb them to reset the freeze and 1tap-freeze them again.

I was exploring with my friend. It killed us both with a single grab attack.
You can't apply Carthus Rogue to a weapon with bleed infusion on it. Not sure if this changed at some point, but it would be nice if you would correct this detail. I just upgraded a weapon to +6 to try it out, but could not even use both in combination, making my investment a complete waste. Credits to this article for that.
It's kind of a buzzkill to me that cheeses are included in the wiki page, as if they are a real strategy:
> The two that are found asleep inside the church on the first floor can become stuck in the doorway once aggroed, due to the large size of their bodies. If you stand far enough away they'll be unable to use any of their leap, grab, or charge attacks (which have the potential to reposition them) but will continue following you, making it easy to safely pick one off with a bow or spells.
Why even include this information? The game is being bugged out in this sense, the player isn't even overcoming the challenge.

I lost my goddamn 80k souls trying to get that damn purging stone. The aggresive fisting face **** grabbed me into farthest wall inside the place, ate my ass out and threw me forward, into the wall. I was stuck in the animation, and right before i could move he leaped at me and killed me off.
Then when I was trying to retrieve my precious souls, I lured him out of the room, and meaning to fight him outside, but he grabbed me again with his ass eating attack, threw me and when got and desperately tried to drink some estus cuz I was very low on HP, toxic status effect finished me off.
Never again.

Tip: Kukri is god-tier against them because only 3 kukris will cause 700+ bleed damage and since it's a consumable it can be used by any class (it's cheap too).

One of them grabbed me, I mashed out, but then I clipped through the church floor and landed in the toxic swamp. I couldn't get out, one way or another, and I already had all my Estus used up, so I had to bone out.
Thank you, Dark Souls.

One of these ****ers grabbed me, I mashed out, and then I clipped into the ground and fell in the poison swamp. I was walled out by the rocks around the church so there was nothing I could do. Had to Homeward Bone out.
Thank you, Dark Souls.

I love the sound they make when they go all munchy on your face
So crunchy and satisfying to hear :)

A bunch of the links for this monster on other pages are incorrectly linked as Hand Ogre

After so long playing this game, it finally hit me: the swamp surrounding the temple the Monstrosities of Sin reside in is from them pooping. Think about it: the swamp causes the toxic build up effect, like the Dung Pies they drop and the area is littered with Sewer Centipedes, who are only found there or at the lake in Irithyll, mostly around the drainage area where you find the Excrement-Covered Ashes.

to be honest, this is the only abyssal creature that is weak to dark damage. all the other abyssal enemies/bosses take very little damage from it.
tested with Dark Greatsword +10

usually, enemies residing in the abyss are pretty strong against dark damage. Artorias is an example, because Manus corrupted him and turned him into one.

The sleeping ones will not wake up with pestilent mist near them making them an easy kill.
- Anonymous
They seem to be attracted to my Pestilent Mist, they will crawl to the mist and sit in it even if they were just chasing me.

I bet Headless from Sekiro and this mf would be good friends. Both like molesting you

When it stands up, you can hit it in the front to stagger it and be able to riposte (at least in NG +3, used Uchigatana) .

The ds2 ogre of this game. Complete with grab attacks and butt smash

You know from software is telling you to go **** yourself when they put you up against multiple of these tanky bastards and all you get from all of them except the first one are two chunks of literal ****.

Are these...Nashandra, Elana, and Nadalia? There are only 3, right?
Just going off of the Eleonora item description. They look like pieces of Manus, they certainly know how to curse things, and they are each related to Alsana, the Silent Oracle.

They have a very specific and slow animation to turn around. it seems they need to be face towards you after they roll on their back or do their butt stomp, every time. Try hitting them once of twice after they do either of those, and then move behind them as they do their turning animation. You will keep them in a loop where they will constantly attempt to crush you with rolls and stomps then try to face you with the same slow animation. As long as you don't mess up the timing, they'll never even attempt any other attacks - not even a grab, as they are too busy responding to you being at their back all the time.
Combine with bleed damage for an even faster kill.
- Anonymous
They should have had one of them flip you the bird as it died.
- Anonymous
First approaching one of these from behind I was reminded of the hippo ogres from DS2.
I was equally annoyed with fighting them.

Use literally anything with dark element, most favourably spell/miracle. As long as it takes to kill them with basically anything else, dark shreds those dmg sponges in like 4 hits.

THEIR WEAKNESS: 1) lure them out of tower 2) position yourself not to get toxic 3) get dagger 4) run into them 5) they always try to grab you 6) do nothing but R1 7) ENJOY!
- Anonymous
As scary as they might be, i laughed my ass off when one of them did a "flick attack" on me
- Anonymous
why are people thinking this is related to some kind of fetish?
- Anonymous
For enemies like this that are highly susceptible to bleed it can be a good idea to throw a blood gem on a bandit knife. Shreds them.
- Anonymous
shrek and yoshikage kira's lovecraft nightmare child, (also might i just point out that this is an abyssal monster that's WEAK TO DARK)

Found out recently that you can stagger their grab attack with the Smough Hammer.

The lore says that these four creatures were hot priestess related to an unnamed oracle, perverted and turned into this by "the abyss" , meaning that they are weak and powerless against Artorias sword

I think these dudes are resistant to Strike damage, since my Heavy Great Club +7 at 42 strength deals very little damage to them.

FYI, Spook does not work to get past the sleeping ones. I guess they're just laying there, not sleeping.

Can someone edit the page? These guys are resistant to frost
- Anonymous
Them not respawning bums me out. They're fun punching bags for bleed weapons.
- Anonymous
I think what's most disturbing about these enemies is the body and movement is clearly modeled off of an infant/toddler that has yet to learn how to properly walk.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Another way of taking care of them is by using Vordt's Great Hammer, which applies frost after only 1 hit and then reset it by attacking with a torch

Their quick grab attack is absolute bullshit, not only does it trigger immediately, but you cannot stagger them out of it, I tried.

Kukris, Dorhys Gnawing, and lacerating bolts are all easy methods of dispatching them.

If you shoot it when they standing and about to do their grab attack, it instantly knocks them back leaving their belly eyes open for slashing.

Probably, the "sin" they are refered is the creation of the profaned flame

Blood Astora Greatsword +10 bleeds them with every hit for 1.5k damage.

Easy way to kill em is to use a piece of armor of thorns then make them use grab attack and roll into them easiest riposte of my life

well, they're definitely pretty weak to ice. 2 hits with my Irithyll Straight Sword +2 triggered the frostbite effect. Vordt's weapon should be able to trigger it on one hit (although I haven't tested it). The sword is a pretty good overall choice though, I don't know their resistance against blunt weapons like Vordts'
- Anonymous
Looks exactly like the hand of Manus that pulls you into the ds1 dlc, no wonder the profaned flame is linked to the abyss
